  1. 4c outside, just getting down into sleet possibility terrority lamposts are turned off until near dawn, too darn cold for lamp-post watching anyways the duvet is more tempting
  2. two sleet / hail showers here so far today (low ground) must be a least some flakes of wet snow over the higher ground
  3. got some webcams for beaches in North Devon westwood ho one seems to be down at the moment, but others are working Saunton, that looks like full gale, with white foam being blown up the beach http://www.eyeballhq.tv/surfcheck/saunton/ Had a brief power cut earlier
  4. It's now an amber warning, mostly for south-west England Structural damage possible, disruption to power supplies Winds could be reaching 80mph in exposed places, and combined with the high spring tides Very large waves
  5. Met Office say to expect updates to the warnings during Monday Any upward shift in the expected wind speeds, could be looking at another red warning as a possibility
  6. Having read Steve M's post in Model discussion, it seems that lady is clearing her throat for another winter The north have had something to cheer, but the way things are going, apart from the odd year (2010) North with altitude = some snow chances during winter Low ground, the further south you go, the chances decrease What the heck happened to Channel Lows? Heck it's hard to get an air frost across the south, during the winter now I remember them, gale force easterly winds, that dragged cold air from europe, and brought some snow cheer to the south, especially for hills & moors These days it's storm after storm that always seem to track to the north-west of Scotland The same places get blasted over and over, whilst other area's wonder what all the fuss is about Gertrude brought a day of horrible drizzle, and slightly gusty winds around here
  7. Rabbit had to be rescued after being blown onto a roof by Storm Gertrude Scroll to bottom http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35436955
  8. http://www.shetland.org/60n/webcams/cliff-cam Sea's a bit rough today
  9. looking at Shetland Museum Webcam, can see the wind gusts skimming over the ocean
  10. Shetland is going to get rocked, i mean red warnings don't happen often. Hurricane like conditions for a while there today, i would expect Time to seek out some webcams, if they have power
  11. Hey folks talking Schafernaker, i posted in here, since off-topic in model discussion This is a belter !!
  12. even if they get 3 feet of snow, life will go on, they get the ploughs out over here, just a couple cm's, and we can't cope. lol i noticed even Mark Sudduth is out covering the storm, well why the heck not, no hurricanes to intercept there could be some surge going on, in some of those coastal locations
  13. i shall forget about uk weather for a bit, time to get jealous, and watch this winter storm unfold in the USA Blizzard to unload immobilizing snow from DC to Philadelphia, NYC http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/snow-storm-travel-disruptions-aim-for-nyc-dc-boston-philadelphia-friday-saturday/54870622 Can we get them to shovel some snow over to us, we should be able to enjoy it for an hour before the 13c temps melt it !!
  14. Well i go to Scotland for two years in a row, to get my snow fix Scotland really delivers for the white stuff, just head for the high ground It was snowing in Glasgow High street last Sunday evening, to the sound of Bagpipes. Fantastic
  15. edit: got it Orkney & Shetland, and Borders region Amber snow warning gone out for tonight, into tomorrow morning ---- Let's ramp, rather than moan I went to Met Office website, it was slow Then it popped up, and Amber Snow warning !! But then it says 'file not found' when i click on it I guess we have to wait a while
  16. After the blowtorch south-westerlies before Christmas, that snowflake has got no chance Instant Melt, upon contact with the ground I stay out of it, one day up, the next day down, cold spell is on, then it's off, then it's on, then it's off Too much of an emotional rollercoaster
  17. Ok, south-west has a yellow rain warning now for the next three days Also, some talk of the winds reaching severe gale force in places Sat image reveals a fairly deep low to the south-west approaches Weather is staying very active, into 2016
  18. 12/30/15 - Explosive cyclogenesis with intense low passing through Iceland at peak intensity Beast of a storm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY6mbyN-aRQ
  19. I think it went as expected, for a storm where the core stayed well out to sea, and then north to Iceland With the secondary low moving in, to give brief squally conditions Just more wet & windy weather for most of us. The people feeling let down (you didn't get blown away by Frank) are probably the ones believing the Daily Express headlines
  20. If you take a look at the shipping forecast, there are some hurricane force 12's flying around for some of the shipping areas. If Frank had tracked right across the Uk, it really would have felt like a hurricane in that sting jet We're lucky Frank is staying offshore
  21. I've heard of blow-torch south-westerlies. Good Grief I was invaded by flies last night, as i've got all the windows open It's not been necessary to close most windows so far this winter 16c could be possible tommorow, and that's inside the rain, any places with brightness or sunshine to the ley of high ground tomorrow, i reckon 20c could be reached
  22. I'm getting on the xmas sherry early, if only to drown my sorrows That Met Office extended outlook, looks bleak. The groundhog winter of non-stop gales, rain, and mild Night time temps mostly not even getting down to single digits at night, at least down this way Could this be a winter of zero frost, nevermind snow Only mention of snow, during the final sentence for northern hills Santa, please bring a pattern change with you. Thanks
  23. I looked at the Met Office extended outlook, now goes to Jan 7th Nothing but the same, mild, wet & windy. Still shaping up to be non-stop Autumn I do hope Winter makes an appearance (Mid January, or February) That winter window is shrinking. Last year i had to go to the Mountains of Scotland to get my Snow-Fix
  24. Red Warnings from the Met Office don't happen often Very serious situation Here in the south-west, it's still dry, but windy
  25. Barney is coming... batten down the hatches If they are going to name every low pressure which brings a bit of wind & rain, they may run out of names by Christmas !!
