  2. sorry, i have invaded from south-west regional i'm in scotland for a couple days to get my winter snow fix Crianlarich - pretty good up there
  3. Early hours of Wednesday, i went lamp post watching in Bristol Best i could manage was this short video, stayed up all night to watch mostly heavy sleet showers !! Some area's outside of the city centre did get a light covering though
  4. I am remembering the classic words of a weather presenter from winter's past It was all looking great for a beast from the east It all changed, and the pest from the west won Oh please, not again !!
  5. just seen latest met o forecast for south-west, looks fairly tasty for the coming night hail, sleet & snow showers with the risk of lightning !! Also mentions snow accumulations to low levels away from windward coasts
  6. I have, the Thundersnow event of 2004 Never forget it. Ahead of the squall, the temp was +6c The squall arrived as rain & high gusts, then it turned to hail, and then to heavy snow, with lightning & thunder Good covering of snow on the ground before it was done. After the squall, the temperature had dropped to 0c Read more, here https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/75764-january-2004-thundersnow/
  7. Upgrade to amber wind warning from met office - for Shetland Islands gusts near or higher than 100mph are now possible Daylight soon http://visit.shetland.org/shetland-webcams
  8. Friday night movie time, watching a movie called 500 mph storm, of course i don't expect it to be any good, but combined with a couple of drinks, it's going to make me laugh... probably. It's hard to find a decent hurricane movie the description - When an energy experiment goes haywire, a rash of massive hurricanes rips across North America. A high school science teacher must get his family to safety before the hurricanes merge, creating a "hypercane" with the power to wipe the US off the map.
  9. i took a look at latest sat, concerned for Orkney centre really wrapped up, looks like passing to the north, with that nasty hook wrap around destined for Orkney
  10. 927mb low east of Iceland for Monday. Wow, that is deep https://twitter.com/RyanMaue/status/553342122532016128/photo/1
  11. Check Kirkwall Airport on xcweather 0600 mean speed 76mph gust 94mph Proper Cat One Hurricane Force winds for a time, being predicted there
  12. That shows the baroclinic leaf effect. It's going to be very bad, the only good news, it's going through quickly Seem to be closing on the timeline somewhere from 2am until 7am for the worst of it edit: look at the latest radar !! - it's all lining up just to the west of Ireland
  13. Sadly, the worst of the conditions look to hit during hours of darkness, which is always a challenge when it comes to video footage Hurricane Force winds is likely to cause power cuts too Also, the mountain top usually register very high wind speeds during these storms. A chance for wind records to be broken
  14. Tweet from Ryan Maue Would be interesting to be on a ship between north coast of Scotland / Iceland later next week https://twitter.com/RyanMaue/status/551446856954568704/photo/1
  15. The last weather bomb took place between Greenland & Iceland. This fella looks a lot closer. I always thought it was the worst case scenario. Having a low bombing out just as nears the Uk, and during the Holiday period, with a lot of people moving about. Gotta keep a close eye on this one
  16. This is a movie with real life tornado footage embedded. First time watching it, some people would say college kids version of Twister I don't think anything comes close to the classic Twister, for the era Into the Storm (2014) http://www.putlocker.tw/into-the-storm-2014-watch-online-free.html
  17. Pretty sure, they'd have a Christmas Tree, at this time of year
  18. aka Cyclone Jim. Jim passed away on Nov 3rd 2014 Jim was one of the first to video a hurricane at ground level Jim Williams over at Hurricane City is running Jim Leonard storm chase video's at the moment You just go to http://www.hurricanecity.com/ and click on the Hurricane Tv link contained within his latest update R.I.P. 19. Got one from a local news source Biggest pile of horse manure i've read in a long time South-west temps to plummet by 24c in 72 hours, according to this article http://www.northdevonjournal.co.uk/Snow-record-low-temperatures-hit-South-West-days/story-24591291-detail/story.html
  20. Feeling angry at this Met Office press release here: Typhoon Haiyan - One Year on http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/archive/2014/typhoon-haiyan 9 percent increase in forecast accuracy The thing is with this Typhoon, and Katrina in 2005, people had days and days of warning time NHC had the track of Katrina nailed a good number of days before landfall Those that could afford to evacuate will have done so If a storm as powerful as Haiyan should strike again, i still think a lot of lives will be lost, and buildings destroyed There is really little can be done when talking about these perfect monster storms There are personal reasons why people may chose to stay and not leave 1) Pets (they will not abandon them) 2) Emotional attachement to their house 3) The fear of looters 4) They believe they can ride out the storm
  21. Having to wear t-shirt n shorts on 31st October.. absolutely friggin ridicoulous We shall all be eating christmas dinner on the beach at this rate, like they do in Australia, but at least they have an excuse, it'll be high summer for them
  22. I did see some people wearing winter coats today, with my area getting up to 21c I was in t-shirt and shorts, and i was still sweating. Feels like i've been sweating since April The sun sure doesn't have the kind of power it had in June / July
  23. Amazing that Hurricane held on as a hurricane for a while, whilst going over sea temps of less than 10c Full extra-tropical transition now occured. Last advisory issued by NHC, still with 80mph winds
  24. Frankly i think it's delusional for people to be looking for 'warmth' when talking about the end of October / early November We'd need a feed of air straight from Africa, what i'm hearing is a westerly wind flow, with the sun losing pretty much all of it's strength soon It'll also soon be getting dark by late afternoon / early evening. The talk should be about increasingly chilly lengthy nights. It's not summer anymore, i don't understand why people are looking for 'sunbathing' weather
