  1. The missus and I went for a walk around Worrall, High Bradfield ways and across some of the peaks, easily a foot of snow in places, and in some of the valleys some of the drifts had hit 6ft+ was very beautiful and highlighted the reason I love snowy downpours.

I'm happy we had this this year though, last year was a bit of a let down. Here is to many more years of good snowfall.

  2. Looks like the snow over Sheffield is getting towards the end of its deluge. Which is a shame, was looking forward to a day of snow being dropped on us. I can't complain at what we've had overall though, last night was a fantastic amount of snow to top us up.

Can anyone inform me if we are to expect anything more in the next few hours? Meteoradar shows the tail end of it fizzling away over us.

  3. Morning, just walked half the distance to work ~4miles and it changes a lot across the N/NE/E of the city.

NW where I live had about 8"inches of snow, so dug the missus out to make sure she got to work ok, then walked from her work. Main roads are ok, but slushy, side roads covered and being compacted so temperature drop will make it hard work when it freezes.

Snow falling now is a mixture of chunkier stuff in NW and E and finer drizzle / snow across the N/NE. Noticable change in temperature as well, fast melt across the N/NE and nothing in NW/E.

  4. Those of you in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham should prepare to leave work or pick up the kids now, moderate to heavy snow is inbound within the hour.

METO weren't that far off in their reckoning of 3pm then.

I've got me walking boots on, and a nice thick jacket so think I'll have a nice wander back home in the dark... hopefully it doesn't stop the trams though. Depends if work even let us go early rofl.gif

A larger field of view for the radar. Look where the only clear skies are..... a line from the wash up through Lincolnshire and Yorkshire to the west of Scotland. Everyone else has snow!

From looking at it though, should it continue on it's current course, it would pass the main body right over all of the Yorkshire region as it pivots round back towards the W side of the UK, or have I read this wrong?

  6. Guys a few going over the top here. It's a tiny bit of a very light snow patch. Nothing to note. And the main forecasts still expect way to south of here. Hope some of the more exciting posts on here come true though!!

With the greatest respect, you are a bit guilty of that yourself.

Very VERY small smattering of snow/ice mix falling at Sheffield Airport site, temp seems to be dropping nicely (although not so nice for my walk home :( )

  7. As a relative newbie to all of this, it's interesting to see the models keep changing, but some reactions are so extreme that I can't help but laugh, especially when referring to a single model run.

Like I said yesterday, it is widely accepted that it will come down to nowcasting and very short time out models I.E. I won't be putting any stock in the models until this evenings updates. It might be prudent for some of you to do the same to prevent any heart failures or passing out risks clap.gif

  8. So from my VERY limited understanding of everything so far, we (NW Sheffield) are in for bit of a battering as far as current models go? Up to 20cm but the likelihood of both the battering and 20cm is still too far out to predict but come Thursday afternoon we should have a stronger indication on what is to come? Can we rely on that model though?

Could someone just take the time to either correct me or confirm what I think (for my very little region by comparison) Thankyou.

  9. This is like a manic depressives worst nightmare the way some of you respond. It's the weather, and as has been re-iterated time and again, this event should it be one will be like a lot of snow events and be down to nowcasting.

The charts are (again as has been said) too far out to be heavily relied upon at the moment.

Either way, it would be prudent to be prepared for a heavy snow fall, and be grateful for any at all.
