  1. Max of 9C here but a nagging breeze kept it feeling cool. Low cloud, no more than a 100ft at times, and frequent drizzle with heavier spells of rain made it all in all quite a raw miserable day here.
  2. Been pouring with rain here since dawn and temp now 6 degrees. Was some snow on the higher routes, about 1000ft, over the island this morning. Strong Southerly wind. Someone lost a bit of roof in a gust but insurance company says it's not windy so wont pay! I bet they get their readings from a nice sheltered city weather station.
  3. Out on the west of Arran it has just started v.light rain in the last hour, not enough to register on the rain gauge yet.
  4. This must have been quite a sight. http://news.stv.tv/highlands-islands/212804-man-ran-back-into-home-before-45ft-wave-destroyed-lighthouse-wall/ I bet he hasn't run that fast for a while!
  5. Blustery day here with intense squalls of hail every now and then and sunny spells in between. Tide has just turned so things might get a bit more lively as the tide rises. No ferries though.
  6. I'm surprised the met office only have a yellow warning out for the wind- I also see that Arran has missed out on all the warnings! Don't expect we will have any ferries tomorrow, so a day off for me.
  7. So far today we have had rain, sleet, hail, thunder and strong gusty winds all in all a pretty foul start to the day.
  8. Met office warning only out for wind for Wednesday despite tomorrow's forecast giving winds gusting to 60mph during the day. Flooding could be a problem with spring tides, heavy rain and snow melt allied to the potential for a bit of a storm surge in coastal areas, with a repeat on Wednesday.
  9. Currently 6c here at sea level with the pressure dropping from 1001 at 1030 this morning to 993 now and still heavy rain with a freshening southerly.
  10. On the north west coast of Arran the sun has gone and the rain has started again after over 2 inches fell yesterday.
  11. North west of Arran Jan 221.7mm (highest recorded for Jan since I started recording in 2004) Feb 134.9mm (highest for Feb) Mar 68.6mm (lowest for Mar- but only by 2.5mm) Year to date 424.7mm. Very wet start to the year following on from the wettest winter for over half a century, according to local records. Drier March has allowed some drying out to happen in fields etc.
  12. Living on Arran all I can say is no more rain please. It seems to have rained constantly since September. September 196mm (my 7 year average 109mm) October 262mm (ave 137mm) November 183mm (109mm) December 297mm (123mm) 2011 total 1813mm (1242mm) January 222mm (146mm) February (so far) 90mm (77mm) I had one dry day from 16th November to 13th January and I live on the drier side of the island! The fields have had standing water in them for months and you daren't take a vehicle onto them or they turn into quagmires. With lambing about to get underwy a dry spell is badly needed.
