Frosty here too in Burnham, if you can't get snow then this will do 🙂 Happy Xmas!

  2. This December has been disappointingly devoid of frosts in this part of the world

Agree Nick re Frosts, here in the south east it's been dreadful this late Autumn/Winter - 2 slight ground frosts this December and not 1 air frost!!! coldest minima here since November recorded 0.7c in the early hours but no white stuff on the lawn as temps had risen by morning.

Sorry to hear that, no family to go to?...I lost my father 2 days ago who I live with so don't think everybody has a wonderful Xmas with family and friends as it's not the case. Wish you a good Xmas!

  4. Wow! according to Beeb weather presenters we're experiencing a 'bitter' south easterly wind with temps at 6c currently!...hahahahaha!!

I remember a day back in the 90's forget which year and believe it was in the 1st week in November and it never got much above 5 centigrade and the presenters (BBC) made little of it...now days they're close to wetting themselves even in winter months if it gets below 6c never mind telling us about the bone curdling windchill!...snowflakes the bunch of them, other than Schaffers, he's alright.

and may it stay out preferably with some nice morning frosts! and 5 degrees of pure British centigrade.

  7. Never ceases to amaze me how easily a cold spell vanishes from the models even from the semi reliable timeframe.

I wonder if a certain person (whose quite knowledgeable but is not the best at LRF's) might put the mockers on this winter...very early days. Another certain person's winter LRF has already started badly and we're only a week into winter...maybe too much emphasis placed on solar minima? but as said early days could end up with that basket of eggs on my face!

I'd be surprised if we see another SSW this winter, I certainly wouldn't 'by-pass' watching the trophospheric weather in the run up to Xmas simply due to that and putting all the eggs in 1 basket. GP seemed fairly convinced and he's the daddy on NW when it comes to forecasting, fingers crossed but not convinced!

As for the model thread try not to get involved, just read the main posters thoughts...

  9. For a time, I was worried about the possibility of missing some wintry weather by going away in December but it looks the only thing i will miss will be drizzle and southwesterlies. Not a front loaded winter after all.

Is the October Fog index as reliable as Steve Murr's October Pattern Index for an LRF? (which went breasticles upwards a few winters back)

Yes we've entered the season of souless dull weather, a lot of sun in spring, summer and up to a week or so ago autumn as well here in the south east...let's just pray we don't get another 2013/14

  13. England have been mugging their fans for years and the mugs (fans) are still suppling on the shrivelled 1966 nipple for comfort. Well the ones that are over 52 years old! 1966 might as well be in the Victorian age to anyone born after 1966.

hahahahaha!...nice Weather-history. True what you say...but Russia 2018 has been quite enjoyable and nothing to worry about at all re: hooligans etc. We're still waiting for the next Gazza, Bryan Robson to set our midfield alight a a player of that type we haven't seen for a couple of decades now, a big part of the missing jig in the puzzle.

  14. Afternoon nws have to agree I feel it's going to be same as last night Ive not seen anything in models in the medium to long term showing any snow chances :-(

Try and contribute to something mate rather than just giving confused face reactions. What's confusing about my post about interpreting the gfs ensembles mean?!?...looks correct to me.

Bargain Hunt is okay, but once you've watched a few it get's so formulated. Then the need to switch off.

Another double digit Xmas on the way...what's new?

What baffles me is The Daily Star said a few days back that a white Xmas was odds on!...:)

  17. When is sewage like Strictly, X Factor, The Voice, i'm not a celeb and all that only way is essex garbage going to end, enough is enough, no more self obsessed plebs on TV please.:bad:

    1. Froze were the Days

      Froze were the Days

Totally agree...more and more z-listers appearing on these shows now, X-Factor and I'm a celebrity get me out of here should have been put down 2 or 3 years back. Even the contestants on Strictly are becoming hard to recognise.

I live in Burnham and there are umpteen bends as you get into the town as soon as the weather becomes dry and sunny it is like a race track outside my fathers house as they go into town and park up by a quayside cafe which caters for them. Not only is a speed an issue but certainly noise, where are the bloody police? - local council says it brings in revenue!! what a laugh.

  19. I've written-off this winter for my location.  I doubt I'll even see an air frost between now and the end of March.

    1. Froze were the Days

      Froze were the Days

I can see Pm slots and mainly wintryness to northern hills but diddly squat further south, maybe some bracing days and maybe the odd frost (again diddly squat so far this month) but that's about it. El-nino is the big daddy this winter and things won't change until April when the atlantic then goes dead.

    2. (See 11 other replies to this status update)

  20. So according to the latest netweather blog, the warmth is due to the cold Atlantic waters! If that's the case why didn't their winter forecast predict this exceptional warmth?

    1. Froze were the Days

      Froze were the Days

...and here on netweather was a designated thread to  colder North Atlantic waters and the possibility of a more  southerly tracking jetstream - well that was bit of a myth (which Mr Madden so readily took up).

  21. Glad this dreadful month is nearly at a close, can't help feeling that December won't be much different - mild, wet and windy. Another 2013/14 anybody?

    1. Froze were the Days

      Froze were the Days

agree @Carl - one of the most depressing winters I can remember. Have to say where as wind is concerned the present weather is just a puff in comparison to Jan/Feb 1990 -4/5 storm episodes that had 50 - 70mph gusts IMBY and widely stronger tothe north. Now thats what I call wind!

    2. (See 7 other replies to this status update)

  22. Well the weather was exactly what was forecast here in the southeast....rain/sleet at low level, snow higher up and brief settling snow above 600ft. Great start to winter and its only mid/late Nov. Perspective people :-)
