  1. My daughters school have a great plan for when it snows and they would usually close. They stay open for children who’s parents are nurses, police, Doctors fireman etc and also those whose parents really can’t take time off work to look after them. This dramatically reduces the amount of kids at school from 230 ‘ish to around 20 kids. I wonder if they’ve considered something like this? My eldest Son in secondary said his form class was only half full by Friday last week as parents had kept their children at home. As for the governments latest ‘advice’ they’re really heavily assuming that the public are going to merrily take the advice because we are a mature and sensible society or whatever the heck he said. Lol not sure who’s he’s trying to kid. Yes some will but seriously he needs to take a look at that video of brits abroad singing ‘we’ve all got the virus” and then he might realise the mentality of some people and why tougher measures might well be needed.
  2. I think if it comes to it they might. I got a big loaf today and stuck half in the freezer. It’s 2 of my little boys who are the coeliacs so a little half loaf does them for a week. I was really worried their bits would all be gone as their intolerance is serious, but we’ll be alright for a while I think.
  3. I went on a mission for the baby milk and managed to find some. 5 tubs left on the shelf. I brought my usual 3 for the week and left the other 2. The other half wanted to buy them but I said no because I know there will now be another parent turn up at that shelf and be as relieved as I was that they can feed their baby for a bit longer. There was hardly any bread, no pasta at all, no tinned veg (tomatoes, sweet corn etc) no beans or tinned spaghetti etc, no eggs whatsoever, no toilet roll at all. Luckily the celiacs dont seem to be panic buying as we have 2 in our household and all the gluten free bits were well stocked Something so lovely happened though. I went to the pharmacy counter and asked if they had an paracetamol, genuinely wanted just 1 box (none on the shelves) and the lady went out the back and said that she had put away one box for herself but she would give it to me. She said as I had little ones to look after she would rather I have it. I walked away feeling rather emotional at her kind gesture. What a lovely lady! I will be silently thanking that lady every time I have a headache for the next couple of weeks!
  4. Panic buying and people just generally being absolute disgusting creatures is really effecting us now. There’s no baby formula I have 3 under 3 and we go through 3 tubs a week. Went to buy some and No stock. Other half looked on ebay and people are selling them, 3 for £90! Usual price is £10.99 each. The toilet roll was ridiculous, the hand sanitiser ridiculous and inconsiderate but baby milk is an absolute disgrace. There are possible alternatives but it’s not just a simple switch you can do with formula and I’m sure these are probably now getting brought up by money hungry idiots looking to make a pretty penny out of desperate parents. I literally just stopped breast feeding a couple of weeks ago (bad timing) so hopefully I can get it back else we are going to be in a desperate state! How people can be like this is beyond me
  5. This is what I thought. When they said about the science it was more to do with the science of human nature and our reactions to being in isolation, draconian measures and us getting too quickly tired of it rather than the science of the virus. Maybe I’m completely wrong but that’s the gist I got from it.
  6. Afternoon everyone, I can’t help but feel really angry today. I don’t want to be part of this ‘herd immunity’ experiment. Like they said yesterday, lots of people are going to die, people we know and love. I can’t help but feel we should be doing more to stop the spread or make better attempts to slow it rather than all going blindly into this gamble of a plan that the ‘experts’ have come up with. Our our experts more expert than anyone else in the world? As it seems we are on our own with our Current response to Corona. I’ve been reading the WHO daily releases and in pretty much every one they’ve mentioned their concern at the lack of certain countries response. They haven’t pointed a finger but I’ve felt since day 1 this was aimed at the UK. Take this for instance ”despite our frequent warnings, we are deeply concerned that some countries are not approaching this threat with the level of political commitment needed to control it. Let me be clear: describing this as a pandemic does not mean that countries should give up. The idea that countries should shift from containment to mitigation is wrong and dangerous” from here WHO Director-General's opening remarks at the Mission briefing on COVID-19 - 12 March 2020 WWW.WHO.INT I know we all have choices and can make decisions for ourselves, like to stay away from large public gatherings. We don’t need a government ban for that. I think we need some iron fist ruling though to wake people up and make people realise this is no joke and to not be complacent. This is no cold, this is no flu. This is new and it can be deadly, not to all but certainly to someone you know it could and most likely will be. And at the very least, we need better advice than ‘avoid cruises’ for the elderly and such. We Need good planning in place for things like school closures and child care. it’s easier and better to do when things are calm rather than waiting until everything is totally out of control and desperate. I don’t accept that we should just suck it up and catch it to create ‘herd immunity’ which they don’t even know will work. It Completely goes against my instinct to want to protect and preserve life, not just of my loved ones but of everyone. I had someone say to me today that they think social media has blown this all out of proportion, so I asked if they thought what has happened in China and is happening in Italy, Iran etc and spreading across Europe... is that blown out of proportion? Is it a lie? Is that not real? And they said “I don’t know” People aren’t ready to believe what is right on our doorstep. I honestly don’t know what the answer is but it doesn’t feel right to sit and wait and see what happens. It’s all very reactive rather than proactive. I’m doing everything I can to protect myself and in doing so protect my family and those I may come into contact with. I’ve chosen to avoid a concert at Wembley tonight because I feel it’s too risky. I’ve chosen to lose the money rather than sell the tickets because I feel like I would be putting other people in my place and therefore Putting them at risk. I know that would be their choice but still, it’s not up for debate for anyone now and I’m happy with that. It Sure feels like we’ve all been hung and left out to dry and I can’t get my head around it. Whatever happens though, I do accept that this is going to be grim and life changing for many. Sad times.
  7. This is my other half’s thinking. I posted about the LC concert tomorrow, he’s still toying with the idea to go, I don’t want to go and I’m not. I’m not fussed about missing out, I’m not even a fan and was only going for a break from the mad house. Something for you to think about though, you’re not concerned about the number of cases, but surely you must be aware that there are possibly thousands of people walking around now that have Coronavirus but don’t know it. Being in a crowd of that size I think you’re almost guaranteed to be sharing that space with one of those people. If you get it, at what point do you self isolate? Latest studies show you’re most infectious before you show symptoms. You may be one of those who don’t even show symptoms. You could walk around passing it to people, the elderly and already sick. What if they die? You probably wouldn’t be aware of it. The question is, Would you be able to live with the fact your ‘Not bothered because I’m young and all that’ attitude caused somebody else to die? Horrible as it sounds, that’s the reality.
  8. Ah no! I hope by the 21st they’ve pulled their finger out and you’re not forced to make that decision. I really feel for you as a 2 week trip away with the family is a biggie and something you’ve probably all been counting down to for a long time.
  9. No I’m not going to. I’ve no idea what political expedience means though lol
  10. Great thread everyone, really informative with humour in the right places. Im not impressed with the way our government are handling things at all. From the minute Boris appeared on This Morning you could tell their reaction to the threat wasn’t going to be sufficient enough to contain anything *facepalm*. I think they’ll react in the end with better measures but it will be too late. It’s already too late imo. My personal concern at the moment is large public gatherings. We have tickets to Lewis Capaldi at Wembley SSE arena for tomorrow, capacity 12,500. Why these haven’t been cancelled I’ll never know! I don’t want to go, I think it would be irresponsible. I myself have a very low immune system having not long had a baby and am just picking up cold after cold, currently with a sinus infection. I’ve been poorly on and off since November. But I have elderly relatives with Cancer, diabetes, Heart disease, high bp. Also I have my children to think about. Im not convinced the young are ‘safe’. I don’t think we know the truth and full facts about who this virus is picking off. I think many things about it will have been hidden to reduce panic. I need to keep myself healthy anyway to look after my clan. It’s really annoying though that they’re allowing them to go on. Postponement would’ve been sensible. I hope everyone comes through this ok. It is indeed worrying times, fascinating at the same time the way nature can bite back with no warning and throw the world into total chaos. ETA: I have already decided not to go tomorrow don’t worry. Reading back it kind of sounds like I was undecided. Forgive me, it’s early!
  11. Feeling toasty out there! Washing is drying sooo quick
  12. Completed the worst ever school run in 7 years here. Was 36.4 C in Faversham walking back. Pushing the double pram 3 miles whilst pregnant (yes I do love a baby) it was a killer. Ive guessed the top temp to be 38.9 C here this week but I really think it will be higher now. Crazy crazy hot. Really feel for those suffering! Get those cold flannels on you and sit in front of a fan asap!
  13. Thank you. I didn’t know that, every day is a school day ha!
  14. I feel ya Dami! I did see your other post and had to post my agreement on this one. its really hard for me personally to see this summer (so far) for what it is... fantastic. I’m a heat lover, sunbathe as much a poss and usually long for the melting hot days of summer. However, this year I’m currently 7 months pregnant, and have a toddler I can honestly say I have never in my life suffered with the heat like I am now. I walk the eldest 2 to school and back everyday which is a 5 Mile round trip and on a couple of occasions I’ve actually cried where it’s made me feel so ill. I feel miserable most days and stay indoors as much as possible. It’s awful. Thank God they break up on Tuesday. I didn’t understand before how people could moan about lovely sunny weather and heat but now I do. I wake up every morning and come in here to see what’s in store for the day and feel panic creep in when I know it’s going to be another hot one, seriously. So for all those suffering, I feel you! Worryingly, something I have never seen before is happening outside my door. The trees in the park are losing their leaves. I’m guessing this is from lack of water. I’ve never seen this before, it’s July yet looking like Autumn out there. It’s going to be a strange Autumn if there’s hardly any leaves on the ground as they’ve lost them already!
  15. Morning all, A nice covering here in Faversham. Not sure of measurements as I haven’t been out with the trusty ruler yet. Woke up at 1 and was not happy to see hardly any snow on the ground. Stayed up til 3 with the baby and still nada. Woke up to the alarm at 5 and we had been blessed Hasn’t stopped snowing since. Schools are open but mummy’s called an official snow day. It probably won’t snow for another 5/6/7 years so I’m letting them enjoy it. I’ll spend the day educating them in this mysterious thing they call Snow and the weather. They’ve already gone out with their step dad to Tesco for carrots and coal ? I used all the carrots last night making soup ? OH set off for his yard in Maidstone and they called as he got to the end of the road and said don’t bother.. result! Anyway, Enough of my waffle... I hope everyone either has snow, gets snow and stays safe and enjoys it Pics from Faversham this morning...
  16. Afternoon all, i haven’t posted in a long time but I’ve been reading the mad thread for a while now and I’m super excited about what is in store for us (hopefully) next week! We haven’t seen any snow on the ground since 2013 here in Sunny Faversham and even then, it was so poor I just about managed to scrape together a 6inch snowman with raisins for eyes and buttons ? before that it was 2010. So although some parts of Kent have indeed seen laying snow, some of us are starved! 1000000000% ready for lamppost watching and spending hours gazing out the window ?
  17. Lovely heavy snow in Faversham! It's been years since we've seen a flake.
  18. not sure if this has been posted? but here is a good pic showing how close the fissure is getting to the glacier https://twitter.com/RUVfrettir/status/507962994626945024/photo/1

  23. The trigger mechanism was that it had passed over the storm shield that holds strong in this little corner of our island and it thought right, now we're good to go lol. I was woken at 5 something by lightning app, shot out of bed only to find that it fired up just past us. A bit frustrating although I enjoyed a nice peaceful couple of hours alone before the kids woke up good luck to everyone today fingers crossed for some juicy storms. Blue sky peeping through cloud here in Fav
