  1. Was snowing here when I woke up at 3am and is still snowing now
  2. I agree that experimenting is good. I think it is also true that if you have a good eye you can take a great picture whatever your camera. Often people are put off by not having the latest model etc but other people have shown what can be acheived with a little compact so just go for it I say
  3. I actually agree with Wibs there. It is annoying when something is just sliding out the side of a photo. Makes you feel you are missing out on something I guess.
  4. Ooo I really really like the top one! I love silhouettes anyway but the plants are just so interesting. I actually think the teasels(?) look almost alien like. The second photo looks like lots of spiky heads peering at the viewer
  5. Cobblers! There's nothing worse than false praise and no-one ever improves without constructive criticism. I can see exactly where you are coming from Louby. The scenery is so beautiful but unfortunately in the two photos you point out the sky is so very bright that it distracts your attention from the landscape. I am sure OON would rather have relevent comments than the frankly pathetic 'nice pics' twaddle that usually prevails. The landscapes are stunning, don't get me wrong but I read this section to learn more about photography and comments like yours help me in that. So 4/5 OON. Off you toddle and try again! Could do better :o
  6. Did you use a particular filter Kelly or have you applied some sort of effect afterwards? I only ask because the sky looks very dark on a few whilst the boats at the bottom appear bleached out.
  7. just had a teeny tiny flurry of snow here
  8. Two weeks time and I am flying to Dublin. I now feel sick!
  9. I'm sure some people would go elsewhere to spam but you have to admit it is incredibly easy in this section to simply post a two word response to every thread. All this does it make it more difficult to find the genuinely useful comments. As OON said if we review the posts lately patterns will evolve. It detracts from the quality of the section but if the team are happy with this then so be it
  10. Absolutely agree. There is no place for elitism. Also in some cases I don't see that experience matters. You can be taking photos for years and still they can be bland and contrived and some of the more 'experienced' photographers would also benefit from constructive criticism. Many of the 'novices' take stunning photos simply because they are not trying so hard and aren't being constrained by technicalities.
  11. Absolutely true. I do think some people use it as an opportunity to show off their latest work when a dedicated photography forum would be more appropriate. As has been said this is a weather forum first and foremost. I also don't believe that it should be about who is the most professional photographer, who has got all the technical know-how or who has the best camera. It should be about weather (and related topics), constructive advice, and learning. Being a little more selective in what you post would go a long way.
  12. For once I agree with OON. Over the last few months the photography thread has become cluttered with thread after thread of 'snaps'. I love taking photographs but am certainly no expert and wouldn't dream of cluttering the section up unless I truely believed people wanted to see my photos and I wasn't just after an ego boost. Maybe a new 'general thread' where people can post their latest picture rather than so many seperate threads would work? Some people produce some absolutely stunning work but this does tend to get lost and forced down the list by the more mediocre stuff. I also agree about the comments in threads. The same people making the same two word comment is not in anyway useful. Perhaps though this is because posting in this area adds to peoples post count? I believe achieving your next thousand posts matters to some people.
  13. Not pleasant. Couldn't sleep last night anyway and just before 1am there was a massive jolt followed by intense rumbling. No obvious damage.
  14. Ken Ring's imagination? There is a thread here that deals with it. http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=40843
  15. Why are pirates so mean? Because they arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre! (you can thank my niece for that)
  16. Which is why I suggest education. Teach people that it is more responsible to have a smaller family, that one is better able to provide for them. But who decides who is sterilised? The state? Ridiculous.
  17. 100% No. No-one has the right to decide who should or should not reproduce. The only option is education.
  18. Well what we had was definitely an accumulation of ice crystals from the fog. Even I'm not so desperate for snow to call it that
  19. Does rime not accumulate like snow? Is that not the point John Holmes was making? It can't snow out of fog? We had at least a centimetre covering yesterday morning but there is no way on earth it was snow.
  20. Hey Pingu, surely it should be you panicking, my feathered friend?
