  1. Definitely the best summer I can remember. April actually started with snow on Easter Monday and the first few weeks were cold and wet. It literally turned on it’s head on the third weekend when the heat came from nowhere. We had a storm pass over on the Saturday night when I was on a night shift. The last week or so the weather turned poor again.

The heat came back again for the first May bank holiday and stayed for the rest of the month pretty much. Both Bank holidays were record breaking for the heat, I was in Whitby for the first one and it was glorious.

June continued the warm settled weather, I only recall it raining once, a heavy shower on the first weekend of the World Cup. The heat really ramped up around the time England played Panama.

I spent 3 weeks of the summer abroad but the heat lasted pretty much until early August. I remember some pretty intense storms at the peak of the heat at the end July, I was due to fly to Portugal and was worried my flight would be effected, luckily the storm missed.

After the first week of August the heat disappeared and it it turned into a typical modern August. Still a truly fantastic period.

All I know is 2013 was personally the worst year of my life to date. My then civil partnership collapsed on Wed 13th March and I remember walking across Plymouth Hoe in bits  with it sleeting and snowing. The next few weeks were a blur, but I remember spring being ridiculously late with trees not coming into leaf until early May or even mid May. I just remember not having a car, walking everywhere and one day seeing the trees suddenly green!

Summer was pretty good if not busy with divorce lawyers and I had a good holiday in West Cornwall first week of September walking the cliffs etc . After that the weather broke and I remember November and December being ridiculously wet here which led on to the stormy winter.

Still, not a year I’d EVER wish to repeat - even if it led to a new life and greater happiness!

It’s weird how personal situations can mask your memory of the weather. 2013 was a great year for me, getting my first proper job and car, I look back on that summer like it was one endless party. When in reality I know I am over hyping it.

2020 on the other hand was interesting from a weather side but a terrible year for me so I underplay just how nice that spring was weather wise.

  3. Winter 2010-11 after December was quite dull, the January I remember being cold and a localised snow event on around the 19th February is all that sticks out. I only remember that one because I was due to have my first driving lesson that day but it was cancelled.

April was amazing, one of the best weather months I can remember. The only rain I can recall were thunderstorms on Easter Saturday. The heat also felt like July on some days.

The summer itself was crap but the end of September and early October made up for it a bit. October 1st was unbelievable, it felt so warm despite the sun feeling quite weak. The best weather came either side of summer.

November and December were really mild especially Christmas Day, the complete opposite the year before.

  4. Great year, snow and cold in the second week of January which lasted for at least 10 days. I remember February being cold throughout even if we didn’t have much snow.

March was exceptionally cold and I saw the heaviest snowfall I have ever seen on the weekend of the 23rd. Some of the drifts were twice the height of me. The cold weather lasted throughout April and May, One thing that sticks out from this period was how desolate the landscape was in the height of spring.

Things improved in June and July was a classic with heat and storms towards the end. August was one of the better ones of the last few years.

Autumn was quite seasonal, I remember a completely surprise thunderstorm on the 25th October which caused flights to divert at Leeds Bradford airport.

November and December were really stormy and seemed to usher in the milder period we have been living in since.

A very interesting year weather wise, similar to 2018.

  5. As previously mentioned the August sticks out most of all, it felt very warm especially in the first couple of weeks but also very very wet. I can remember 4 or 5 thunderstorms in that month alone.

I remember being sent home early from school in the January snowstorm, the other snow events I remember were one in November and also the flurries on Christmas day.

There was a gale on a Saturday in March, the rest of the year I can’t really remember that much.

  6. One of my earliest weather related memories was building a snowman on good Friday in 1998

I can remember snow falling on various dates in 2005, 2006, 2008 & 2012 but they were all from brief showers.

I remember the last weekend of 2013 we had a snow shower in the early hours of the Saturday morning which was the latest snowfall I could remember at that point.

2016 sticks out the most, we had many snow showers in the final week and left the latest covering I can remember on about the 29th, the cloudscapes were brilliant too.

We had a covering on the 2nd in 2018 but that didn’t last.

Finally last year, the weekend before the pubs reopened, I was walking on the Yorkshire Dales and we had a few decent snow showers leaving a minor covering.

There will be other occasions that have slipped my mind too.

  7. It was a really good spell of a weather, I was doing my A-Levels around this time and remember revising in the garden whilst sunbathing. Only time I’ve ever got a tan in March!

The week after however ushered in the worst few months of weather I can remember, we went for blazing warm sunshine to snow in just a week.

  8. I was 10, very much into football so I remember being outdoors a lot. We had a few snowfalls in the winter, especially in early February.

I remember the time around Easter in April was really warm. The summer heatwaves are of course the standouts. I was camping in the August one on the North East coast and it felt like abroad.

The Saturday in August was by far one of the hottest days I can ever remember, walking out of air conditioned McDonalds and getting blasted by a jet of hot air when the door opened sticks out.

The Sunday which was the hottest day I remember being fairly disappointing, the heat stayed down south so further north it was cooler and thundery.

Christmas was really dull and mild but we had an unexpected heavy snowfall on New Years Eve which left a few inches. Bit of everything that year.

  9. First half of the year interesting, second half fairly poor. Last winter was decent, coldest here for a good few years and the snow was a good distraction from the awful lockdown. March started cold but the really warm last week was the standout.

April was very interesting, sunny days but many cold nights and the odd snowy day. Will stick out in the memory for the period of “outdoor dining only”, freezing my balls off to have the first pint in months!

We had some decent thunderstorms in May but that month overall was rotten, cold and wet.

Summer was a mixed bag, June was average, July was the standout month whilst August was terrible. September was decent, I did the NC500 then and the weather was pretty perfect for that. The rest of autumn was fairly boring.

I will remember this December for missing out on a white Christmas by 17 minutes, had a decent covering Boxing Day morning! Other than that fairly terrible.

So a real mixed bag of a year overall.
