  1. I know exactly what you mean, I have been forced to bake bread because our road is so lethal and the local shop hasn't had any deliveries....
  2. Light snow here in Tunbridge Wells, though looking at the radar I don't think it will be much.
  3. The South East is still under a yellow warning for snow for Thursday and Friday - think they are unsure exactly who is going to be in the firing line.
  4. Wow! - very unusual to see that intensity of snow falling in Central London - beautiful!
  5. Genuine question (though probably the wrong thread, but this is the only place I post): this very fine powdery snow seems to me to have quite a distinct, almost chemical smell. Have never noticed this with snowfall in the past. We have an enclosed basement terrace which is thick with snow and I notice it every time I go out there (it's not normally stinky, I promise!) Is there any scientific basis to this, or am I just going a bit potty?
  6. We have just had another albeit fairly brief heavy shower - we now have 18cm! (though I don't want to brag as I know how hugely irritating that is if you're not looking out at an expanse of white.... we've been lucky this time and I hope everyone sees something by the end of the week).
  7. Not for my location. I had several hours of heavy snow last night which they totally failed to forecast although the MetO had flagged it up for days.
  8. A rather snowy Grove in Tunbridge Wells this morning. My daughters are so annoyed that their school is open! (Sorry about the undue prominence given to the dog poo bin, which is not the most aesthetically pleasing object - chosen because you can see the snow depth on the top!)
  9. In Tunbridge Wells, if I'm the Kate you mean, this was a couple of hours ago but it has paused here momentarily. The bright light in the picture is not our car being torched but the nearby lamp post, in non-working order for six years, which TWBC with impeccable timing decided to repair a few weeks ago - it is so bright it sears your retinas, but fantastic for snow-watching!
  10. Me too! - I'm a freelance book editor and have never been an early riser (to put it mildly) so am ideally suited to lamppost watching - though tonight the snow has sporadically been so heavy here no lamppost was needed. Am quite excited about tonight! - but annoyed that i failed to buy biscuits..... the house is completely devoid of snacks!
  11. Yes, we are right in the centre of town and I can confirm between 4cm and 5cm. I did move here partly because I was told we got more snow than most!
  12. Here in West Kent only a few hours into the forecast snowfall we already have 4cm...... it may be that we are just lucky, but yes, the night is still young! The local BBC forecast also seemed to be mentioning further snow tomorrow night - so hopefully that will involve more of us.
  13. Thank you! - and thank you for all your fantastically uplifting posts in the Other Place which keep many of us going in the face of so much negativity.... wishing you lots of snow too, if not this winter then next....
  14. Gosh. It hasn't been snowing for very long in Tunbridge Wells but because it is so powdery and everywhere is so cold and dry it is settling on everything. If this goes on - and this is the 'light snow' phase the MetO forecast at this point - we will definitely have at least 4-5cms by morning.
  15. It's been like it since early morning - not the best day to choose to be beset by gremlins. Or maybe they've been hacked by Meteogroup!
  16. We are at the top of Grove Hill. And after the flurry of excitement there is now nothing - it's going to take a while to get going properly.
  17. Nick, surely by now you are an honorary member of all threads!
  18. Totally agree, I wasn't suggesting it was a forecast - more an excuse to down tools at the suggestion of a snowflake!
  19. Just to let Southeastern commuters know that they are recommending people try to complete their homeward journeys by 6PM tomorrow night as heavy snow is forecast from around that time.....
  20. Great update from Phil Avery just now - disruptive snow for some this week, and they seemed reasonably positive about the chances of Friday's major snowfall. Good times ahead - certainly no downgrades!
