  1. This January here in the south east has certainly been mild, it hasn't been the outstanding high values but the consistency of mild/fairly mild days and complete lack of anything cold at all this winter - coldest day here being 6.3c max. A few ground frosts but nothing exceptional.

That would be an accurate description of this winter so far. According to wunderground.com for my location there have been no days yet (in December or so far in January) where the temperature has failed to reach 6c. And we didn't even get an air frost in December at all. You could say that some haven't even experienced a proper 'cold snap' yet.

  2. I haven't been following this forum much at all recently (probably because things have been so uninspiring). I'm mostly a lurker now anyway so you probably don't know who I am.

I was wondering, is there any chance this winter will end up completely snowless (i.e. no days of lying snow)? For a lot of locations (namely my location) anyway?

  3. I'm pretty much still a newbie in this forum... I used to post a couple of years ago but went back to lurking since then so I guess I'm fairly unexperienced... so from what I can tell it was looking good for a cold spell from the 6th but now we are within a week of it it only looks to be lasting just one day is that right??

  4. Save your head. You're dealing with half-wits who wouldn't know mild weather from a teapot. As I have said a few times already. In the great words of Bishop Brennan an 88/89 winter would soon teach these fools what mild weather is.

I'm not totally convinced it would. Before 2009, people had given up on cold winters, not because they had experienced one extremely mild one, but because they had experienced a long run of benign winters throughout the 90s and 00s. If an 88/89 were to happen again, people would simply be back cold ramping the next winter.

  5. i done that last year in feb and i went to bed when i awoke in morning it was snowing and it wasnt forecast smile.png

Same with me in December 2011. Many areas were forecast snow on the night of the 15th/16th, including mine, but I got none. Two days later, I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to a covering on the 18th. :)

  6. As mentioned over in the model discussion thread, the CFS is showing some great charts tonight. 18th January looks particularly nice.

Still throwing up some cracking charts, heres hoping for a beast of a winter! I seem to remember CFS got the severe cold of December 2010 from months in advance...

    That's good to know smiliz39.gifrofl.gif

  7. Normally I start getting them in my house late July onwards, but only had a single one this year, in my kitchen at the end of July. Although I have started to see a few knocking around recently, albeit small ones but I guessed it's because it is September and that is when they are known to be notorious.

  8. Not reaching 20C in April is actually pretty common here, only 10 Aprils have reached 20C here since 1981. Im not sure about Leeds, but Id wager its not too dissimilar.

As for the max this month, its still 14.8C (recorded on the 1st), which is the lowest on record. The closest are 14.9C in 1986 and 1989, so that is very much exceptional.

That's exactly what I recorded - 14.8 on the 1st. However, I fear Monday, which just happens to be the last day of the month, could ruin that.
