Can’t see there is a thread for this so here goes.
This seems to be a Mast year for nuts (acorns) and berries (hawthorn and holly trees are loaded).
Is this Mother Nature providing for birds, small animals for a hard winter I wonder.
I think nature is reactive rather than proactive. The trees and animals have as much of an idea as we do as to what the current Winter will do.

Partly agree but it can make things difficult for those trying to learn and/or looking for more insight than the publicly available forecasts provide.
That's not the point of the thread though. There are whole threads in the learning area for that. By all means people are allowed to ask questions, but to expect people to only post the most likely outcomes, (forecast) is not the point of the thread.

To be fair, there are also those who only post the hottest ensembles they can find.
People like what they like, people hope cast, and many look for extremes for interest.
The bias is strong in both directions, you just have to find the posts worth reading in amongst the rest and remember it's just the weather
Exactly! This happens all year long, regardless of the season. Not everybody loves hot temperatures and not everyone loves cold. Being pulled constantly for looking for your preferred weather, regardless of what that is, is getting tiresome.
If there is a 20° plume showing on the models in the middle of winter, then it's allowed for discussion. The same if there is -20° in the middle of summer.
Just as a reminder to some who seem to forget. It's the "model output forum" not a forecast forum!

For those looking for a colder outlook, the wait currently goes on. Still hoping for a misty spooky Halloween and and frosty fireworks night. Fingers crossed we get a chilly festive season.

Very unlikely before November for my area. But will welcome.it when it comes.

Anything at all coming to South Essex? I'm desperate for a bit of rain. Don't even mind if it's not accompanied by thunder, just some rain would be fantastic!

That’s the point. The majority are not as they should. I gave an example above of a post that presents possibilities as fact.
But there are no facts only probabilities. And incase you're confused about this thread, this is the model discussion thread, not the weather forecast thread. All model discussion is permitted.

As per my post above. Although you of course didn’t state anything as fact. Language matters. Many people rely on what posters say here. We’ve even had “news”papers copy stuff from here before.
Forgive me, but can you point to the posts in the model thread that are only facts?
All I can find are post about prediction models based on statistics and probabilities!

First frost seems a million miles away atm when we could be looking at 30° over the next few days. Although, wouldn't it be great to go from a mini heatwave to first frost all within September.
We can only dream.

Folks - When are officially "shifting" over to the Autumn thread btw?
Seems to be some of us still in here, and some over there!
Is it not still meteorological summer atm?
It's meteorological Autumn now. Astronomical Summer until the 23rd.

God, the other threads are becoming a bit of a chore to sift through at the moment. It's constant arguing, guilt tripping, one-upmanship, schadenfreude gloating and personal attacks.
I swear it's getting worse!

End of September would be fantastic. End of October is more realistic for my area and even that is optimistic.

This discussion is getting boring now. Let it go.

Autumn my old friend, nice to see you again.

Only 10 more days until my first pre 8pm sunset. Light fading thick and fast now.

Cheers @Blessed Weather. Would never have dreamed of creating a Winter thread during the Summer normally.
Always look forward to the Winter season. Would love a rerun of 2010.

Just one month to go and we'll be entering the season of harvest and wonder. Golden colours and frosty fingers. Fog rolling in across the meadow and logs burning on the fire.
Summer's been a no show so far this year. Let's hope Autumn greets us with all its glory.

I’m probably just thinking of the 1961-1990 data as that’s what I grew up with as being ‘average’ and was the main data set used.
Can I just say, we'll done Crewe for admitting your mistake. A lot of the time people double down on here and it ends up with a page and a half of arguing! Quite refreshing.

Yep, I'm done with Winter now. Hope for a fresh, warm Spring, with a few thunder storms thrown in for good measure.
