Wetterfrosch 86mph!!!! I do hope not.

Our worst winds last winter peaked at just 57mph and that already caused some downed tress and power outages.

TonyH Thats not true, we were under a yellow warning for Wintry conditions not just snow.

And besides the point, even some of the Amber areas didn't get much so our points still stand.

And to add to this, i think the real ones to blame are the weather models because the forecasters can only at the end of the day tell us what they are showing for the general ordiance who could not understand such things. Just look at what the models were telling us Winter would be like months ago only for loads of people on this forum including pros being led up the garden path for the thousandth time.

Agree with most people about how poor of a forecast this has turned out to be.

Was sure i had woken up to a different day when i woke up and looked out the window as to have yellow and amber warnings of ice and snow to only give the usual mild atlantic rain is quite something.

It reached 44.9mph here but there was a two hour period where winds were gusting constantly in the 30s so i think this is the reason it seemed more noticeable than Isha's stronger but more shortlived gusts.

Got pretty much what I expected last night with a max gust of 44.9mph.

There was an hour or two hour period where I was getting lots of gusts in the 30’s mph so I suspect it was this that made it more noticeable than Isha even though Isha gave us much stronger gusts.

Isha seemed to be gustier but stronger and Jocelyn was weaker but more constant I would say.

Based on the predictions i am expecting max gusts of 35-45mph this evening and tonight considering that its suppose to be a step down from Isha's winds which gave us max gusts of around 55mph.

But even if this is all we get there could still be some damage as even though normally winds around 40mph just give very blowy conditions with maybe some twigs coming down these winds are going to be hitting trees and structures that would have been weakened by Isha's 50 or 60mph gusts so we still will probably have some issues.

XC weather is currently showing wind gusts for inland areas tomorrow that are almost the same as what ended up happening yesterday.

Gusts anywhere from 50-60mph is showing up from 6:00pm and 12:00am. For reference i had a max gust of 56mph on my handheld anemometer while up the local road at the peak of yesterdays storm so if these predictions come true then it will be virtually the same strength again at least for inland areas here.

I still think storm Arwen back in November 2021 is the worst winds i have seen since moving here as that must have had frequent inland gusts of 50-60mph with peaks possibly being 60-70mph.

There were a lot of proper big trees down from that one and i had never seen that before then. Normally its always weaker trees or ones that are shallow rooted.

I can say having been out in Isha last night that it wasn't at the level of Arwen like i thought it was going to be but still bought two gusts in the mid 50's which to me reminds me more of a storm we must of had in the early hours and morning sometime in the Autumn or Winter of 2019.

Overall the max gusts last night were probably the same as Arwen but were far more shortlived and gustier so its this that probably makes it feel like it was less severe.

I think for a lot of areas away from Ireland, Scotland, coasts and inland hills it was a bit less then predicted as originally even gusts inland were suppose to be getting up to around at least the 70mph range but going from a lot of reports it looks like it maxed out more at around 55mph with a few isolated spots maybe getting to 60mph.

When i went up the road here after 4:00pm i was already getting gusts in the 40's so just assumed it was a sign of an extreme night to come. But then i was getting the odd 50mph gust and i could see the odd power flash in the sky from time to time. It actually dropped back to 35-45mph for a bit before the peak between 7:00pm and 9:00pm where i got a gust of 55.0mph and then another at 56.8mph probably another 10 minutes or so later.

Still a decent blow though and tends to be the max we get every 1 or 2 years where it causes the power to keep going on and off for a short time before staying on and being ok again. Twigs, some branches and weak or shallow rooted trees seem to be most affected from these sorts of winds along with possible minor property damage.

No way, definitely at least a 1-5 year event as even the deepest lows in the winter only normally bring gusts of 40mph or 50mph inland at most.

Well for reference those wind gusts are usually the max you get on the coasts and hills in most deep lows in the winter period when inland areas get anywhere from 30-50mph gusts so if those gusts come off it will be quite an experience for us inlanders.

First set of photos were taken yesterday after the brief sleet and snow showers in the early hours. We had a light sleet shower around midday that then cleared to sunny spells for most of the afternoon. But then a heavier sleet shower came over in the very late afternoon which would later freeze and compact during the night hours as temps fell below freezing leading to lethal icy roads.

Then these were the scenes we had this morning as we walked up our local road after the temperature had reached its lowest value of -7.5C.

Really not good that the roads were not gritted as several people had been stuck around our hamlet for most of the day as they haven't been able to drive back out.

-5.5c to -5.6c here currently with clear skies though i can see some mid-level clouds to the West coming down from North to South.

Have had on and off very light and small grains of snow here for the last few hours but i could tell that it was from showers because of seeing starry skies every once and awhile.

Its settling very lightly on some roofs and cars but its just melting everywhere else.

that's all the worst damage i've seen today but if it was a tornado it would probably be ef0-ef1max if not it was a bad gust of wind probably about 65-85mph also this is a video before the big gust/tornado

Looks more like damage anywhere from 40-55mph to me.

If it was a tornado then probably a weak f0.

Yes i know this.

But all current reports and even forecasts had the peak winds around midday for here which is confusing to me as it doesn't match up with the timing of the warnings. It's just a breezy evening out there right now.

It's obvious to me that the whole thing has been coming in even later than predicted and less intense as the squall is only around the middle of the country at the moment when it should have been passing the Southeast by now.

Must have been downgraded or delayed because we certainly didn’t get winds here in Wales that deserved a warning or a named storm.

Looks like most places here kept even below the 40mph level let alone reaching the predicted 45-50mph gusts. I only got a 36mph and 38mph gust late morning time.

Looks like the squall is only really developing as it moves further inland.

Was waiting for it to pass around midday here but nothing happened. The winds just died down and the rain just stayed the same for the rest of the day.

Supposed to have been at least 40-50mph winds but it’s been more like a few gusts in the 30s and then nothing else for the rest of the day.

We are under another yellow warning for wind tomorrow now from the Met Office.

Gusts 65-75mph coastal, but could even get up to 60mph when the cold front comes through inland.

looks like gusts more generally inland for most of the warning period will be 45-50mph though.

There is another yellow weather warning out from the Met Office for this low for parts of the South and Southwest of England and most western parts of Wales.

Gusts inland expected to be 45-50mph in general, but could get up to 60mph when the squall line comes through. Gusts more likely to be 65-75mph for coastal areas.

Gusts were mostly in the 30's mph with a few 42mph and 40mph gusts on Wednesday night into early Thursday.

It was almost just as windy yesterday as well with gusts probably maxing out in the 30's mph. I got a gust of 34mph when i went out briefly as it was starting to die down. My mum told me the power went out for about 20 minutes as i was out getting the 30-35mph gusts.

Had a decent thundery shower come through here on Wednesday evening at 9:00 to 10:00pm. There were very bright flashes of sheet lightning that were about 1-2 miles or so away with cracking thunder. I was seeing distant flashes for several hours around the area before this came in as i was up the hill measuring the winds and as i could see the lightning getting closer i didn't take my chances and jogged back home into the house before it came over head. I dont think i have seen a storm that decent for this time of year at around Christmas time. It wasn't of the intensity of a classic Summer thunderstorm but i would say that it reminded me of the type of thundery showers you normally get in the Spring.

Me and my parents also think we heard some distant rumbles of thunder yesterday morning but it was hard to confirm because of the gusts of wind we were having at the time.

I do think it was windier here last night compared to Saturday but not by much.

Most top gusts were in the 30s mph with a top gust of 38.8mph.

didn't see any flashes either for the several hours i was outside so cant have been any convective weather anywhere.
