  1. We are under another yellow warning for wind tomorrow now from the Met Office. Gusts 65-75mph coastal, but could even get up to 60mph when the cold front comes through inland. looks like gusts more generally inland for most of the warning period will be 45-50mph though.
  2. There is another yellow weather warning out from the Met Office for this low for parts of the South and Southwest of England and most western parts of Wales. Gusts inland expected to be 45-50mph in general, but could get up to 60mph when the squall line comes through. Gusts more likely to be 65-75mph for coastal areas.
  3. Gusts were mostly in the 30's mph with a few 42mph and 40mph gusts on Wednesday night into early Thursday. It was almost just as windy yesterday as well with gusts probably maxing out in the 30's mph. I got a gust of 34mph when i went out briefly as it was starting to die down. My mum told me the power went out for about 20 minutes as i was out getting the 30-35mph gusts.
  4. Had a decent thundery shower come through here on Wednesday evening at 9:00 to 10:00pm. There were very bright flashes of sheet lightning that were about 1-2 miles or so away with cracking thunder. I was seeing distant flashes for several hours around the area before this came in as i was up the hill measuring the winds and as i could see the lightning getting closer i didn't take my chances and jogged back home into the house before it came over head. I dont think i have seen a storm that decent for this time of year at around Christmas time. It wasn't of the intensity of a classic Summer thunderstorm but i would say that it reminded me of the type of thundery showers you normally get in the Spring. Me and my parents also think we heard some distant rumbles of thunder yesterday morning but it was hard to confirm because of the gusts of wind we were having at the time.

  6. I do think it was windier here last night compared to Saturday but not by much. Most top gusts were in the 30s mph with a top gust of 38.8mph. didn't see any flashes either for the several hours i was outside so cant have been any convective weather anywhere.
  7. Didn’t get much here with most top gusts around the 30mph level. The highest gust I got up the road was 33.3mph but I got many 29mph gusts. There may have been a very brief period of 35 or 40mph gusts not long after I came in to have dinner as it did sound quite loud but I don’t know for certain as I was in the kitchen.
  8. An interesting evening coming up if the convective storm forecast is to be believed.
  9. Do you use a weather station or hand held anemometer to measure these winds?
  10. Probably more like 30-40mph going by your description although I always feel that it’s very difficult to tell wind speeds by eye alone unless you have proper measuring equipment.
  11. Pretty last minute this as far as i'm concerned. Quite a few people are going to get caught out by this as even i didn't know there was a storm coming till literely the last hour or so. No more then a day or two ago the models were just showing standard wind and rain. A bit of a poor show it has to be said.
  12. Just had some distant thunder and flashes of lightning about an hour ago though it didn’t last long. Heavy on and off outbreaks of rain have been going on for most of the night as well.
  13. Had a bit of Thunder not long ago here to our West or Northwest but it didn’t last long. I saw the flashes as well so it was a bit of a surprise as I wasn’t expecting anything. We have been having on and off heavy outbreaks of rain for most of the night.
  14. Got a pressure reading of 955 from this storm but it only gave us max gusts of 30-35mph between about 6:00AM and 12:00PM. So even for here in Wales the yellow warning we were left with became invalid as the low obviously had gone a bit further south than expected as even here we were expected to get at least 40-50mph gusts.
  15. Got a low pressure reading of 955 from this storm but only max gusts of 30-35mph between about 6:00AM to 12:00PM. looks like we have had 188mm of rain here in the whole month of October.
  16. I think that rain had produced some lightning earlier as I saw some very infrequent distant flashes to my south or southeast about an hour or so ago.
  17. I saw some very infrequent distant flashes of lightning to my south or southeast about an hour or so ago and i am in West Wales. Was quite surprised as I didn't think anything was expected.
  18. 27.2mm this morning, followed by a further 10.4mm through the rest of the morning and afternoon. So ended up with a rain total of 37.6mm from this event which is quite rare for here. Usually at the worst of times we end up with maxes in the 20's.
  19. Two great captures there, just a shame they were cut short as it would have been great to have heard the thunder in its entirety. EDIT: Just read the rest of the post above so no problem with the vids being short here.
  20. Only if the risk becomes more widespread and spreads to more Western areas as well this time around. Some places maybe, but not for most areas.
  21. Ended up being much less then expected here with most gusts in the 30's and just one of 40mph. Still bought a few twigs and leaves onto the ground though.
