  1. Not as much talk of thunder on this mornings forecasts, just heavy outbreaks of rain for the afternoon. The sky does have a slight unstable look to it though at the moment.
  2. The convective forecasts on here are not looking very promising compared to the mainstream forecasts.
  3. Yes I agree with this too! Its getting confusing in here at the moment with all of these european posts.
  4. Although its usually a good sign for future storms, it does't always mean that your area will get the storms unfortunately.
  5. Probably because the thunder potential is low for most places tomorrow and Wednesday.
  6. Not a very promising forecast compared to what i've seen on the BBC and met office. The message of this is basically, unless you are to the East or south east of England, you can pretty much forget about any thunder.
  7. Looks like we may have a chance at something thundery this coming Tuesday, Wednesday although my worry is that it will be too far east of here. Hoping we get something as was disappointed that we didn't get anything after the cool down from the heatwave.
  8. Oh come on that won't come off! If it did it would wreck a lot of trees this time of year.
  9. Latest forecast for here isn't looking good as there only seems to be a risk of thundery showers tomorrow with little chance of these even coming off. Just looks like the coming cooler weather by Wednesday onwards will produce some murky drizzly weather. I'm so glad i stayed up to watch those frequent lightning storms one of the nights in May now because if i had just gone to bed and missed them i would be very annoyed seeing all of this heat going to waste and easing away with no thunderstorms.
  10. Agreed! The cumulus clouds that are forming look even less tall than yesterday at the moment.
  11. This has filled me with some hope that our area may have more of a chance at something now, with more cape values across the southwest. As you say though, capping is the one thing that will stop anything forming if the triggers aren't strong enough.
  12. Quite a bit of cloud around at the moment, will probably lower potential peak temperatures if it keeps coming.
  13. It looks like I am going to miss out on the action this time around if anything does happen as most of the CAPE seems to be well east of here, with only a small amount showing for us on Monday or Tuesday. Must bear in mind also that CAPE isn't everything and the models are probably showing it to be way overdone!
  14. I tend to find that mid level storms produce more widespread storm coverage for everyone though.
  15. Doubt there will be anything electrical now though looking at the detectors. Main trigger for activation has moved way east now.
  16. I think above average temperatures alone are not enough for most heat summer lovers though. They want it to be dry too otherwise not much chance of staying dry doing outdoor activities!
  17. Looks like its the easts turn for thunder this weekend then although not sure if I may have heard a few rumbles earlier. It was definitely our turn for the storms last week. Enjoy it while you can as there doesn't seem to be much to look for in the near future with atlantic domination.
  18. Mostly cloudy after some rain. Not sure if I heard a few rumbles of thunder earlier or though thinking it was a jet now as can't see any lightning detected around hear or any other reports. Glad I saw that frequent lightning storm last Saturday morning now as there doesn't look to be anything thundery in the near future.
  19. It was the odd rumble of thunder scenario here last night with a few faint and brightish flashes of lightning and some soft rumbles. It was obvious that the main action was going to be for eastern areas. Main story was just the rain though, and it was absolutely nothing compared to Friday night, Saturday mournings event.
  20. Beautiful lightning storms last night from 12:00AM with the faintest flashes in the distance to right overhead at 4:00AM and moving away. I always look for faint flashes or heat lightning when we are forecast storms as you can see lightning at a far greater distance during the night compared to the day, and this is why when I saw constant faint flashes like a firework display before deciding whether to go to bed or not I knew we were in for something. There wasn't anything too nasty though, more just frequent and amazing intra-cloud lightning with very infrequent cloud-ground.
  21. I would definitely say that there were some unusually powerful + positive cloud to ground strikes yesterday as the sound of the thunder and look of the lightning was exactly the same as i've seen on storm chase videos which show this type of lightning.
  22. Had to add also that our electricity went off twice earlier due to the + positive cloud to ground strikes.
  23. Yes pretty sure thats the type of lightning we had here earlier too!
