  4. nicely put gottolovethisweather, it impresses me the massive diffence the far north experiences in daylight hours in only say thirty days from the end of August and by the Equinox the average temps have to get
  5. A quick look again what the N.H. may try to live up to this winter S.H. Canberra Australia smashes 1946 daily cold record now -4c http://www.weatherch...-30-040912.aspx LOW: BROKEN
  6. I'm going to be adding maps for new snow with cold records highlighted and the nearest webcam as it comes down from the north and moves west over the next four months. If you guys have any links to hard to find webcams near or in the highlighted areas and other ideas it would be good. So Monday looks like this. and the nearest webcam was http://www.mjpeg.net/webcams/15861 This idea should improve as it gets more snowy in the Northern Hemisphere.
  7. Only two weeks to the Autumn Equinox then the cold will have more of a chance away from the high mountains we see at the mo , and the snow starting to grip This link shows the average temp going below 0 about that time http://www.yr.no/place/Russia/Sakha/Verkhoyansk/statistics.html After that it could be only 90days to a very front loaded (with snow) winter! ......lets not think about last year.
  8. Following snow and cold then check this. Record daily cold 26.6deg F -3C 04.30 their time and close to the white pixels is http://www.mjpeg.net/webcams/15861 Magadan Russia LOW: BROKEN

  10. looks like your right about the warmth ,far more daily heat records than cold ones at the mo http://coolwx.com/record/12 days could be time for snow cover to improve maybe time will tell. More snow forcast for Friday into Saturday ...subject to change! http://www.svalbard-images.com/
  11. My ideas for you citizenxA overview here could be useful http://theweatherout...eather-forecast Following what people are observing on threads like http://forum.netweat...21-autumn-2012/ http://www.cloudyskies.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1383 Checking a almanac for you area i.e http://uk.weather.co...fromSearch=true Others may have other ideas as i'm still new to this site.
  12. Hope your right hammer, I'm after some cold weather weirding and some uk records broken in the next six months, boring weather that does not get into the papers can stay away.
  13. South of topic I know and a bit of a ramble with excess web links .... but before the N.H. snow realy kicks in just a thought for the S.H. as it comes to the end of its winter. Take South west Australia Canberra for example ,more snow than for ten years and setting records for cold. I guess gobal warming maybe having a comparable effect to them as it is for us. Some details here if interested http://www.canberrat...0817-24cgc.html and a snippet here http://twitter.com/6...653527921967104 South Africa also needs a mention http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread869101/pg1 and http://www.news24.com/Multimedia/MyNews24/Snow-in-the-Western-Cape-20110916 If any one got any charts to demonstrate whats been going on it would help my understanding of the situation. Will the Northern hemi beat the Southern hemi this winter at records, rare cold, snow levels etc looks like its got a lot of work to do but well done to bradford for beating the 1908 August cold record to get the ball rolling! .
  14. now on my phone ta for the idea trisnow hope they make it work as a lockscreen wallpaper as well
  15. funny thing was while thats in in the artic circle at the webcam it was at about 5c while the highlands were at -2c on thursday.Snow viewing fix here http://www.webcam-4i...degg-Wetter.php thanks for the link johnholmes
  16. reminds me of the snow last year in the news there was lowish level snow on the 27th of August , bit of a trend these days. google map 46.619364,8.570151 love the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yaji.weblivewallpaper&hl=en&rdid=com.yaji.weblivewallpaper&rdot=1 got it showing http://www.snoweye.com/?page=uk at the minute.
  17. And also as it is completly uncertain that the ice level and sunspots amounts will give us a cold winter will the other weather factors like Jet stream placement not play a much bigger role anyway?
  18. And a bit of potential for highland cold and snow in 8 days http://www.yr.no/pla...Nevis/long.html with my caution being that it does seem to overestimate snow from experience last winter.
  19. Looking at the records back to 1616 http://www.netweathe...r-history;sess= the answer looks like a no, early October looks like tthe earliest that a significant amount of snow has been recorded the time of the little ice age. for e.g ahttp://www.knmi.nl/~groenlan/weatherv3.pdfround The existence of a sharply developed polar front is supported by the temperature reconstruction of the 1697 autumn (Figure 1). Roughly speaking, the anomalous coldness over Europe is more severe around the British Isles and the Low Countries than over the Mediterranean, which points to an unsually strong meridional temperature gradient feeding a strong and unstable polar jet. The synoptic situation of the great storm of 1-2 October 1697 is characterized by strong northerly winds over the western half of the British Isles and northwesterly winds over the central North Sea. The post-frontal airstream must have been strong enough to advect cold Arctic air, which subscribes to Thomas Evans’ observation of snow in the North Wales mountains and the frost in London on 30 September 30 and the first few days of October. Snowfall in Wales, this early in the winter season, implies a strong southward flow of Arctic air and indicates that the storm depression of 1-2 October much have been very deep. more recently 1965-66: The second half of November saw snow in most areas, more recently than that a number years of snows in December like 2010 Hope that gives you a picture of early snow.
  20. Things are a bit quiet as we head towards winters hoping for some good ice charts in the coming month and more snow on webcams
  21. and that negative anomaly ties in losely with more high daily temp records than low at the present time http://coolwx.com/record/ time of day maybe a factor here but there could be more of a connection in a month or three time. 22. From mid to late September the huge loss of day light hours must put a limit to the lateness of the refreeze I guess. http://www.sunrisesunsetmap.com/ My ramblings if you folks are interested I see September is the tiping point for negative temps at 76deg N So the mini heatwave of 6deg C for 27/8/12 (record Aug is 17.1) is not unexpected (no wonder the snow melted at longyearbyen) http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Svalbard/Longyearbyen/statistics.html The coldest September temp is -1.7C so more of the white stuff for the fans of it there and above the Bering sea before too long me and my snow ramp thinks.
