  1. I’ve just looked at the met office medium term forecast and glad I’ve booked a week away in August. It seems the heat dome down south is causing this long run of UK weather to continue into August at the earliest……. And cooler next week
  2. Somerset has big clouds with showers that seemingly bank up just as the sun comes out again. Yesterday was worse with plenty of grey skies and downpours. Curiously Saturday was much better. I’m getting tired of this now. My water butt is full.
  3. I can cope as long as the temperatures are high teens or 20s. This is still Bette than about ten years ago when I was in double layers at 14C in August.
  4. I’ve been in Southern Spain until last Tuesday so I’m experiencing a comedown weather wise - I guess we might be lucky to have water reserves in Somerset at least. I have a neighbour bravely attempting mowing in the drizzle.
  5. The lack of thunderstorms has been the big disappointment in Somerset. But I can’t complain about the sun and warmth bar the short aberration last week. Unfortunately that is likely to occur again.
  6. We just had a short sharp rainstorm go through - with a couple of thunderclaps nearby. Looking at my radar there’s a few in Somerset/Dorset moving in into Wiltshire.
  7. Well so much for Apple weather app - sun is out and it’s lovely! Hope same for everyone else - have a good BH (unless you’re in Scotland)
  8. Pesky cloud layer now being forecasted to stick around longer than Met office said yesterday…… not breaking up yet but will get my wind blasters out and point them at the sky.
  9. Best day for ages here…. Vast numbers of people out to grab hold of proper summer weather.
  10. My tomatoes this year are an early fruiting variety and they’re my best crop ever . They reached their best point during the hot week so they ripened beautifully. I’m still picking them now.
  11. The sheer negativity this year that we’ve had to endure has, I’m sure, been part of our disappointment in the weather. Last years long periods of warmth and sun took the edge off the horrors of the pandemic and everything else, but the leaden skies just reflect how a lot of us feel at the moment. Remarkably varied here today, though. Bland a.m. but sun and rain since then giving some variety and more interesting skyscapes.
  12. The working week looks great I’ll just hope that low creeps a bit further north for the BH.
  13. Mid somerset had a long break in the clouds after about 3.30 yesterday making the rest of the day sunny and pleasant, which was a nice surprise. It seems very localised- if you are lucky to get a break it warms up but otherwise loads of cloud about for many areas. I do remember an August much worse than this about six years ago where the cloud was incessantly low and thick with heavy rain - and much colder than presently- 14C 15C max some days. This isn’t great but it’s better than then.
  14. Vast improvement yesterday with warm sunshine, and a balmy evening - the best Saturday we’ve had in ages. We finally had the garden based BBQ we’ve been putting off since early June. Hooray!
  15. Yesterday a big disappointment as the decaying front brought a few hours of continual drizzle until about 5, then after a short warm break resumed heavy clouds from about 6.30. This despite my apps all saying it was dry and sunny!! Today hopefully dry but the signs aren’t great.
  16. Sunday afternoon brought a sunny - if windy and cool -respite allowing some weekend outdoor activities but weather has reverted to pattern of a bit of early morning sunshine which turns into overcast grey clouds with periodic showers since then . Even today, with local forecasts and weather apps saying dry, it’s actually heavy showers!
  17. Yesterday we actually had a thunderstorm zip through which was fun, and again the cloudscapes can be wonderful. But it’s Saturday and it’s raining AGAIN! Agh. I’ve managed one beach day this year. Feeble.
  18. Improvement through the day to an acceptable level with greater area of grot further south. More grot to come later this week but hopes now raised for mid-month on. Some quite lovely cloudscapes really help a day.
  19. Personally I’ve always enjoyed thunderstorms. But in the UK we haven’t really seen the extreme versions. I enjoyed a particularly good one in the Pyrenees five years ago which rumbled around for a few hours.
  20. I was very glad to have the period of heat, as it was the weather I always hope for when I take a summer holiday to the Med. But for me a holiday abroad is a distant hope now thanks to a mixture of matters including the virus and Brexit but not exclusively so. So some of my nigglyness is due to having to having no break away. Current weather doesn’t help at all as it drives home how much I feel I’m missing. I really feel for the campers in Cornwall.
  21. Right - I’m getting grumpy again. I don’t want to wear one layer, let alone two, at this time of year.
