It always seems to be the North that get all the epic plume storms in this country anyway. York supercell two years ago, 22nd August 2015 , 1st July 2015, 19th June 2005 (what a mad day that was), and July last year also.
The rest of them normally end up being Kent Clippers or busts due to lower Dew points and drier air further South, despite higher temps, but not sufficient enough to overcome CIN.
36 minutes ago, Oliver Wyndham-lewis said:I beg to differ the S/SE has had some epic storms from plume events too. July 2014 was very active, 1st of July 2015 there was also an amazing thunderstorm overnight in London, so much lightning I remember that one well. Then we had June 2016, very thundery round here. End of May 2018 was incredible across the south and then even last year we had a countrywide thunderstorm event on 24th/25th of July when a big MCS went straight through the heart of the country which was almost the length of the south coast as it travelled north
Wasn't there a study done on this exact thing. We haven't had anything down here like this for absolute years, early 2000s at least.
Does anyone have any weather charts for this day???

3km into my 5km interval run, look at that beauty moving away into Buckinghamshire.

20 minutes ago, Harry said:Handful of very localised but RAPIDLY developing deluges kicking off in my locale. No thunder sadly.
4 minutes ago, Oliver Wyndham-lewis said:Yes - cells rapidly popping off and becoming electrical now. Cells back-building over that one over central London. Watching from my Living room view.

Please tell me your kidding right ?? The Met Office although not my number 1 fan did put the warning in the correct place just their timing were out due to the Cap holding longer than planned. You are in the perfect position for today and your dewpoints promote thunderstorms, and tomorrow and wednesday as well.
Update on the MCS for the SE which maybe would have been our saviour is rapidly going downhill with it staying the other side of the channel and hardly any models going for this now.
3 minutes ago, Jamiee said:There was modelled convergence for parts of N/NW Kent but it doesn't amount to much on the models. Just showers really.
Keeping an eye on that stuff over Le Harve/Rouen

Whilst models have generally backed away from much of any rain here in the SE, the weather app by contrast has gone the other way - from 30-40% chance indicated yesterday, to 80-90% around 2pm today! Suffice to say there is literally not one cloud in the sky here at the moment.
I am not too concerned, the outlook this June looks fairly good. I suspect July when the heat ramps up in Europe and heads this way we'll be in with a shout of a classic 1990s style MCS/MCC. Bigger than this

Where are you @Robbie Garrett? I see fresh lightning has been detected to my west over C London
6 minutes ago, Thunder and Lightning said:I had multiple close strikes that resulted in a cracking like thunder which I have never really heard before!
SE17 - absolutely horrendous sound. Amazing though. Very very cold air for Summer. Feel's more like April.

Did anyone else in London hear that Thunder. Can't even explain how loud and horrendously sounding it was.

Any of this scare off the protestors?
Look's like the above cell pictured made a direct hit for the Battersea area. The Met Police (NPAS) chopper cleared off just in time....

Can’t speak for the rest of the country, but round here it’s baked dry and the latest top dog ECM suggests little relief in the near future. If this carries on we will be in Californian mega drought territory come August.
Not particularly what you want during a Pandemic. Slightly worrying really. Then there's the issue of when the rains come, the surface will flood again.

20-21°c overnight at London City. Anyone know the max overnight low record for May?
-
Seeing some of the pictures of the Thames this afternoon/evening.
Most places flooded, I wonder if that's a case of not many people about so can try and see how resistant the barrier is till they fully close it? Never known them to allow this amount of flooding in heavily tourist areas.

A growing number of rumours spreading now that London is heading for a lockdown, no doubt enhancing panic buying across the capital.
Given all of the past measures were leaked to the media prior to being officially announced, then this London lockdown story is probably true.

And at the same time I heard Boris will address the nation tomorrow and tell the UK he is putting us on full lockdown for 15 days, with the army being deployed to protect from looters.
Could be BS, could be true, but most of my Army friends are on their way back.
Operation Broadshare. Essential services only, and must have a reason to be travelling or doing something. Speaking to a few in the know.

Does make you worry, but then having lived in Southwark all my life - the people here are disgusting. Spitting on floors (yesterday), coughing without a care in the world and not covering mouths and people sneezing without doing it correctly as advised. I just am not surprised.

Was expecting a drop this is alarming something is going wrong...
I think what I've highlighted below.
Just now, Summer Sun said:Some more data from Italy
- 14,363 in hospital with symptoms
- 2,257 in intensive care
- 12,090 in home self-isolation.
But then it could just be how many have ended up in Hospital.

Sources close to the mayor’s office say they expect a shutdown of the capital in the coming days. Legislation in the Coronavirus Bill would give the Government emergency powers to “close premises” and “restrict or prohibit events and gatherings” that includes restricting transport networks.

I’m not blaming Johnson in particular but he is PM and will always be held responsible by the public , that’s part of the job .
My issue is with the CMO and his team who should have known that herd immunity is not something you try and deliver and should have advised the PM accordingly.
Its a result of many things often outside of the control of governments .
This was indeed policy trying to be too clever for its own good . Relying on a host of assumptions that had never been proven or even tested before .
The only priority all along should have been stopping an NHS crisis , trying to think too long term isn’t possible in the current circumstances.
I am wondering if this was all just a plan to get people to stay at home, and prevent people from actually spreading this further. Everywhere was a ghost town in London this evening.

Yes that was a good setup, coming in via Kent. All home grown as far as I remember. But @Harry will tell you, what we've seen down this way is nothing compared to the 90s and very early 00s. I honestly don't get why we don't get those setups anymore, but probably something to do with the way the Azores and Atlantic currently setup?
But yeah we've had a few crackers.
