  1. The Birmingham storm was very impressive. Started abruptly with constant thunder and lightning every 5 seconds or so. 20 minutes later it suddenly went sparse. No rain whatsoever in the city center.
  2. Took the Brum storm head on, viewing from 6th floor. Saw the metallic part of the Bullring get hit by a large CG. Best storm of the season so far!
  3. The BBC is forecasting thunderstorms and thundery showers for the north west over the next few hours. I personally can't see it happening except for the tongue of cloud spreading from the isle of man SE on the IR sat. What do you guys think?
  4. I wish people would post photos or videos of these epic sounding storms. The one we got in Birmingham at 1am had spectacular lightning but it was too dark to see the clouds.
  5. Just saw a massive fork + thunder just West of Birmingham! All is not lost!
  6. This has probably been done before but ... They don't call it invent for nothing!
  7. I've got a close eye on those, seem like one may pass through Birmingham! But you can never extrapolate these things...
  8. Those strikes are strange. The rainfall radars show no sign of precipitation and sat24 infrared images show no significant cloud structures. Hmm..
  9. Nice one starting the thread. To get the ball rolling I have no car but am more than willing to pay my share of petrol (no Hummers plz). Anyone starting or passing through the midlands?
  10. Hey guys. I've been hanging around here for a while but decided to register because these next few days just seem so dam interesting. I'm in Birmingham studying meteorology at the moment but it doesn't look like the best of the storms are going to get close. I unfortunately don't have a car to travel down and the train/bus costs seem excessive. Is there anyone with a spare seat in the West Midlands area heading to Kent/East Anglia for a spot of storm chasing? It would be my first chase in England (done one in Northern Spain). If not it will be down to youtube and radars like usual.
