  1. The wind dropped off earlier, for a few hours. It has started to increase again, now. My new pole is doing a great job, I wanted to check it, so I shone a torch up during some higher gusts, there's not a single wobble or oscillation on it, the old aerial pole would have been vibrating like a good'un!
  2. I agree with everything reef and 4wd have said. The WMR200 was a great station, and I was tempted with a 300, but their customer service and support are terrible. On that basis, I would wait until you can afford a VP2. I'm currently on my third anemometer in 10 months, luckily it hasn't cost me anything, but it does make me question Davis' reliability.> I've just installed the new rain bucket, hopefully it'll get some kind of test tomorrow!
  3. The ARPEGE does have a tendency to go one step beyond when modelling wind gusts. It did the same with an area of low pressure that affected Southern areas and the Southeast a little while back. It's certainly going to be nasty, though.
  4. Well, the forecast last night pointed to a grotty day for here, and that hasn't been the case. There has been some bright spells here and there, windy though. Temp: 11.6°C - Hum: 90% - Dew: 10°C - Bar: 1011.55hPa - Wind: W ~ WSW @ 14mph, gusting to 29mph.
  5. Another thing to watch for, during development of a sting jet, is surface obs on the South side of the cloud head. If temperatures decrease rapidly, then cold air is descending, and the strongest gusts are likely in the same area.
  6. Netwx-SR take on the gust speeds, on the current run.
  7. Yep. I zoomed in from about 15 metres away when I took that pic, so the yew bush looks closer to it than it really is. I don't get any issues with objects affecting rain readings, only the wind from the SW if it is combined with rain. The wind funnels up next doors driveway and across the garden. That's why I bought that new rain gauge bucket, its supposed to alleviate rain errors in strong winds.
  8. I'm certainly not surprised the MetO have issued an amber warning..
  9. Cloudy today, still mild though. Temp: 12.4°C - Hum: 87% - Dew: 10.3°C - Bar: 1019.54hPa - Wind: W @ 9mph. The new rain gauge bucket arrived. Nice and simple to install, and the debris screen locks in.
  10. You've been unlucky down there, knocker. I equalled my February high - 15.9°C Incidentally, that's higher than I recorded in March 2015, and 2016 as well.
  11. I'll be quite happy to have that, exactly how that chart shows it. I've just put up a better pole on my chimney, for the anemometer. I'm in need of some strong winds, particularly from that direction, because my anemometer had reading issues from around WNW.
  12. I've spotted 6 frogs in my pond today, spawn absolutely everywhere! The most spawn I've ever seen in my pond to be fair. I'll have to move it to the empty pond though, as it'll get eaten by my Koi.
  13. My average has rocketed over the last few days. Currently at 6.2°C, that will increase after tonight's update. MetO derived average is 5.4°C
  14. I've just got back from Poole - glorious weather! Temp: 15.2°C - Hum: 85% - Dew: 12.7°C - Bar: 1021.23hPa - Wind: W @ 8mph. The THSW index is making it feel like 20°C Highest temp for February is 15.9°C on the 23rd, back in 2012.
  15. A busy week of working! It's a shame the weather hasn't been busy. A couple of good days of sunshine, the rest were mostly cloudy. There have been several mornings of thick fog here, surprised that there were no warnings?! Maxed out at 13.2°C yesterday. I've just got the new anemometer up. The 1.5 inch steel galvanized pole is far more rigid than an aluminium aerial pole. I have 4ft below the bracket and 6ft above, making the center of gravity a bit better. That won't be going anywhere! A few bright spells this morning, before it went overcast. Max of 12.1°C Temp: 10.8°C - Hum: 87% - Dew: 8.7°C - Bar: 1022.55hPa - Wind: WSW @ 6mph.
  16. There's quite a rash of showers over Japan, they might make it this far?
  17. Currently 1.2°C here. Both wetbulb and dew point are conducive of snowfall. Just need the snow! I dunno about anyone else, but i've noticed that the wind has been nowhere near as strong as forecast. I know it is supposed to increase tomorrow and Monday, but the last few days have had light winds.
  18. Nice seeing Spurs on the receiving end of 2 nil. Choke On Your Sleeping bag
