  1. BBC Monthly Outlook Summary A change to colder conditions is coming Saturday 3 February to – Sunday 11 February Turning chillier by the end of the coming week Monday 12 February to – Sunday 18 February Mostly likely near or colder than average Monday 19 February to – Sunday 3 March Colder than normal Further ahead We will see in the next update on Wednesday if the models and other indicators continue to depict the colder turn of events from mid-February into the second half of the month. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/outlook

  3. Wednesday 7 Feb - Friday 16 Feb Initially unsettled with cloud and rain across a still mild south whilst clearer and colder conditions across the north with some wintry showers in the far north. Rain likely pushing back north late in the week with potential for snow for a time across the northern edge of this alongside gusty winds. Through the weekend a change toward a north or north-westerly wind will bring cold conditions spreading across the UK with wintry showers across coasts but clearer inland as rain clears southeast. A further change of type expected by mid-week as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant allowing winds to drop. Temperatures potentially recovering to average with this, though any prolonged clear skies liable to bring localised frosts and fog risk. Saturday 17 Feb - Saturday 2 Mar Although there is still some uncertainty by the start of this period is it more probable that conditions will start to become drier and more settled overall for much of the UK with winds from the north. This would increase the likelihood of less mild, or colder conditions developing more widely and increase chance of snow, especially in the north and east. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk
  4. Spain's Catalonia region which includes Barcelona has today extended a water ban to the refilling of public pools and some restrictions on public showers after 40 consecutive months of below-average rainfall. The region faces the prospect of bringing in water by boat during the summer.
  5. Seems to be an issue with threads which have tags associated with them in that whilst the box is showing, the text isn't.
  6. Tuesday 6 Feb - Thursday 15 Feb Most likely unsettled at first for much of the UK. Turning colder across northern areas with showers, which will turn wintery at times especially over higher ground but to lower levels at times too. Cloud and rain being pushed in from the Atlantic may well be forced to track further south across the south of the country where it may remain milder but with more persistent rain, especially in the west. Exactly where the boundary between these two regimes lies is still rather uncertain at the moment. However, there is a chance of wintery conditions developing more widely across the northern edge of this boundary through the second half of next week for a time. Friday 16 Feb - Friday 1 Mar Although there is still some uncertainty by the start of this period is it more probable that conditions will start to become drier and more settled overall for much of the UK with winds from the north. This would increase the likelihood of less mild, or colder conditions developing more widely and increase chance of snow, especially in the north and east. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk
  7. The UK could start to give names to heatwaves under a trial this year, if successful the naming of heatwaves could then be adopted permanently like it is for storms.
  8. Monday 5 Feb - Wednesday 14 Feb Changeable conditions at first, with spells of mild, wet and windy weather punctuated by drier, cooler interludes. The northwest is likely to see the heaviest and most frequent or most persistent rain, while the east, and especially southeast, will tend to be drier overall. Largely cloudy with the best of any sunshine in the east. There is a chance colder conditions could then start to feature slightly more widely during the second week of February, with increased chance of wintry weather across northern parts of the UK. Cloud and rain being pushed in from the Atlantic may well be forced to track further south across the south of the country where it may remain milder. However, confidence is fairly low in this period. Thursday 15 Feb - Thursday 29 Feb Following on from earlier in the month, either the period will start changeable with temperatures overall around average and a northwest to southeast split in conditions, where colder conditions may have become established across the north and milder conditions with cloud and rain further south. However, through mid-February there is an increasing likelihood of more settled conditions with winds arriving from the north. This would increase the chance of some colder spells for much of the UK, with a greater likelihood of wintry conditions at times, particularly in the north and east. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk

  10. BBC Monthly Outlook Summary Mild and unsettled, then colder mid-February Wednesday 31 January to – Sunday 4 February Changeable but generally mild Monday 5 February to – Sunday 11 February Milder than average for most but staying unsettled Monday 12 February to – Monday 25 March Possibly turning colder than average mid-February Further ahead With models tending to hint more at the possibility of colder weather for mid-to-late February, let's see the atmospheric drivers are still looking favourable for such conditions to develop. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/outlook
  11. Sunday 4 Feb - Tuesday 13 Feb Changeable conditions at first, with spells of mild, wet and windy weather punctuated by drier, cooler interludes. The northwest is likely to see the heaviest and most frequent or most persistent rain, while the southeast will tend to be drier overall. Largely cloudy with the best of any sunshine in the east. There is a chance colder conditions could then become established more widely during the first full week of February, with increased chance of wintry weather, especially northern and central UK, should Atlantic cloud and rain be forced to track across the south of the country. Equally, similar conditions to the start of the period could well prevail; confidence is low at this range in the weather type which will become most dominant. Wednesday 14 Feb - Wednesday 28 Feb Following on from earlier in the month, either the period will start changeable with temperatures overall around average and a northwest to southeast split in conditions, or colder conditions will have become established, mainly across the north. Either way, through mid-February there is an increasing likelihood of more settled conditions with winds arriving from the north. This would increase the chance of some colder spells, with a greater likelihood of wintry conditions at times, particularly in the north and east. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk

  17. Yellow warning for heavy rain issued from noon tomorrow until 5am Tuesday https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2024-01-29&id=d58a5613-4240-428a-9104-cc9cfce77d25
  18. Friday 2 Feb - Sunday 11 Feb Early February will continue changeable, with spells of wet and windy weather for many parts of the UK. The northwest is likely to see the heaviest and most frequent or most persistent rain, while the southeast will tend to be drier overall. At the start of this period, very mild but rather cloudy conditions are expected widely, with the best of the sunshine to the east of high ground. With time, however, westerly winds are increasingly likely to turn more northwesterly on average, leading to a greater likelihood of colder and brighter interludes within the generally mild, unsettled theme, especially across the north. These would bring an increased chance of wintry weather, with overnight frost and fog accompanying any more settled spells. Monday 12 Feb - Monday 26 Feb At first, changeable conditions continue to be most likely, with the wettest and windiest weather often in the north and northwest. It is more likely to be drier further southeast, although some wet and windy spells are still possible here. Through mid-February there is an increasing likelihood of more settled conditions or winds favouring a northerly component. This would increase the chance of some colder spells, with a greater likelihood of wintry conditions at times. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk

  20. The UK has provisionally recorded its warmest January day on record with 19.2c in Kinlochewe, it is also a winter record for Scotland.
  21. Kinlochewe in north west Scotland has hit 16.9c this morning, which is provisionally the warmest January day on record for the village.
  22. Thursday 1 Feb - Saturday 10 Feb The first few days of February are likely to see wet and windy conditions across northern UK, with rain heaviest and most persistent in the northwest. Southern parts will be more settled but often rather cloudy, with some places remaining largely dry. Subsequently continuing changeable with spells of rain at times, but also some drier, brighter interludes. The heaviest and most frequent rain will tend to be across north-western areas and accompanied by periods of strong winds. Further south and east settled periods are likely to be more prevalent, with the best of any sunshine and drier weather here. Temperatures are expected to be milder than average overall, although this doesn't preclude shorter, colder spells at times, with a risk of overnight frost and fog accompanying more settled interludes. Sunday 11 Feb - Sunday 25 Feb At first, changeable conditions continue to be most likely, with the wettest and windiest weather often in the north and northwest. Further southeast, it's more likely to be drier although some wet and windy spells are still possible here. Through mid-February there is an increasing likelihood of more settled conditions or winds favouring a northerly component. This would increase the chance of some colder spells, with a greater likelihood of wintry conditions at times. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk
