Even if we're locked into a general pattern change towards a more southerly tracking jet, it's almost certain that there will be some exceptions. If favourable synoptics can happen in late May there's no reason why they can't recur in July.
I agree Tws, I recall that during the May spell last year many thought it was going to stick around for some while. We've also had several good Junes in recent years so I don't see why such synoptics can't happen a month or so later
Interesting stuff Gavin, I am always on the lookout for comparisons like that. Hobart has only had 4 other 40+ temperatures: 1897, 1899, 1900, 1959.
