  1. ANYWEATHER winters in Europe are milder & shorter than they were 50 or 60 years ago, and this difference is most pronounced in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. It really isn’t a matter of opinion. Why certain people continue to react angrily to this I will never understand.
  2. Sun Chaser interestingly enough Poland has probably seen one of the biggest reductions in average snow days of any European country. There aren’t many places left in Europe for reliably cold & snowy winters anymore unfortunately.
  3. TwisterGirl81 regarding Stockholm at least there’s nothing surprising about it really - it’s significantly further east so more sheltered from Atlantic weather systems, and significantly further north so summer days are much longer. Southern Sweden and Finland have better summers than anywhere in the UK imo. Stockholm gets 1898 hours of sun a year on average. It’s sunnier than London in every month from March to September. It’s probably the sunniest major city in Europe north of the Alps. And yet it is still duller than any major American city. Europe as a whole is a very dull continent away from the Mediterranean. Even a ‘sunny’ city in the south of France like Toulouse gets no more sun than Pittsburgh or Seattle (both considered very dull by North American standards).
  4. CryoraptorA303 August is definitely the next month to keep an eye on for 40C+ temperatures... maybe August will even reclaim its title as having the hottest temperature on record in the next few years.
  5. Wasn't today supposed to be wet? The sun is currently shining and it's 13C.
  6. Catbrainz it’s February so people just automatically assume it’s cold.
  7. East Lancs Rain even in sunshine in July or August I would not be wearing t-shirts and shorts at 13C. Much too cold for that imo.
  8. WYorksWeather who would wear shorts and t shirts at 13/14C anyway? That might be a pleasant winter temperature but it’s definitely not warm by any stretch of the imagination!
  9. Today was really nice - a lovely sunny afternoon and a high of 14C. More of this please!
  10. CharlieBear9 there’s a big difference between the occasional cool, rainy day in summer (which is to be expected), and total washouts like July 2023. as long as we don’t get a month that horrendously wet & dull again this summer I suspect any hysteria will be kept at a minimum.
  11. Don we are definitely overdue a drier period though. Every month since July has been wetter than average here. I can’t remember the last time we had 7 consecutive drier-than-average months.
  12. Atmogenic We've had some sunshine this morning, currently overcast though. Not expecting any rain here until after dark. Also noticed the Met Office have removed the rain warning for here. Only applies to southern England now.
  13. SunSean it's the same across the Channel too. Paris has only recorded around 17 hours of sun so far this month.
  14. In Absence of True Seasons I think it was @reef who mentioned that average sunshine in England has increased over the past 30 years, but most of that increase has come in winter and spring - there have been many sunny winter months in recent years when you think about it. Last winter was very sunny for example. Spring has tended to be really sunny too. Chances are your tolerance for the British climate is just decreasing as it’s always been very dull. As kids we just don’t really care about the weather at all.
  15. Today was very pleasant - some sunshine, light winds, mild. Birds chirping. It really had that early spring vibe.
  16. We have a weather warning for rain and yet no rain is actually forecast.
  17. We have some sunshine and blue sky today, the birds are chirping, temp is 11C. Has spring sprung?
  18. reef Agreed. August 2018 was much better than August 2006 so I'd say summer 2018 was better on balance, but summer 2022 was better than both.
  19. kold weather Similar here. A bit damp after the rain this morning but otherwise a fine, dry and mild day.
  20. I’m definitely saving on energy costs these past few days. 11C this morning with a forecast high of 15C.
  21. The teleconnections/tea leaves tell me it’s going to be the hottest spring on record.
  22. I’ve noticed some trees here with budding too. I don’t know how unusual that is though as I’ve definitely seen budding in February before.
  23. In Absence of True Seasons It's the opposite for me - I went outside today expecting it to feel cold, but it felt really mild and I ended up taking my coat off.
