  1. I've never gotten sun burn in the UK.. Insects can be annoying but they're not much of a problem in the UK.
  2. Too true MB. Somewhere like Warsaw would be best for me - cold enough winters that snow lasts most of the winter but without the frigid weather, but warms up quickly in spring, summer is warm but not hot, and then a gradual decrease in temperatures in autumn but not too drastic. More thunderstorms to boot.
  3. No problems for me.. well, except one afternoon when 6 inches fell and the entire city came to a halt. But 2 days later, life seemed normal - kids were walking to school with their parents and people were waiting at the bus stop to go to work. In fact, I can say, hand on heart, that 1 December 2010 was the first time that my life was ever inconvenienced by snow. We're not pansies like they are in London. It's interesting that during summer, I found posters like 'simshady' very annoying because they wanted cool weather, but now I find mildies annoying because my attention has turned.. feels like I'm the only four-season lover on this forum.
  4. Until some snow appears in the forecast, that is - then it can clear off and return in March where it belongs. A November 2010 repeat would be much welcomed - that month started off very mild as well. Anyway, the high was 12C today with just a hint of drizzle.. certainly felt like November is just around the corner. Looks cloudy all week until Saturday. Spare a thought for us while you're banging on about warm sunshine.
  5. 12C with mist all day in Leeds, no hint of sun unfortunately. Looks better later in the week.
  6. That was 1971 - 44 years ago. This isn't 1971. There are umpteen more cars on the road. The results back then are not guaranteed to be repeated again if they were implemented in the 21st century. Also note the use of the word 'estimated' - i.e it isn't certain. Just get over it and move on. It's one hour - it is not that big of a deal. Honestly.
  7. It's been tried and tested - people didn't like it. It's not going to happen. Put it to bed and stop blithering on. Getting sick and tired of this same tedious argument popping up every bloody year.
  8. Tough - it isn't going to change for you or anyone else. Deal with it or move to France! For those of us who finish at 5, it makes no difference whatsoever.
  9. No doubt - very boring. November is usually the most boring month IMO. August was the best month here this year - and I'm kind of missing it. Consistently 21-24C with partly cloudy skies. My birthday reached 26C and we had several thunderstorms.. sigh.
  10. Vigo in Spain has sunrises at 9am in December though. For the 9-5 working population, if we stayed on BST all year, it would already be dark when we come home, but would also be dark when we go to work. No thank you.
  11. The British climate causes a lot of people to be unhappy. This is why people move to Spain.
  12. Not really - here, April and October are nearly equal in terms of sun, when measured in % terms, so I don't expect an entire week to average about 1 hour of sun a day. That's very bad. The outlook isn't much better. In any case, just because something is seasonal, doesn't mean you're going to be happy about it. That's broken thinking.
  13. I might take a fleeting interest, but seeing epic snowfall elsewhere in the world is more annoying than anything, if you have nothing yourself. It's why I don't bother tracking storms in France or Germany - it's simply a reminder that somewhere else is having fun and you're not. In fact, that's why I avoid looking at radars during UK storm outbreaks - because if I miss out but other places get plastered, I'll just be annoyed.Looking at snowfalls 3000 miles away just does not excite me.
  14. Yeah, don't care about snow 3000 miles away. Only care about snowfall in my back yard. 100 inches in Vermont is no good to me unless I'm there to experience it - and even then it isn't the same as experiencing it at home where it's a novelty and worthy of news.Winters are definitely not getting worse here - maybe they are getting worse in the Midlands and southern England. Last winter we got a few inches and the normal number of snow days.. and we are below 100m.
  15. I've already said what makes me happy - some sunshine! The type of weather we had two days ago - 14C, mostly sunny. If cloudy, windy weather is considered seasonable then no, I'm not happy.
  16. Today was rubbish compared to the past couple of days. Any extra warmth from higher temperatures was more than mitigated by the near total absence of sun and gusty winds. Yesterday OTOH was brill - proper October day, 14C and mostly sunny and the colours in full display. Mild for the sake of mild is never any good, unless you're desperate. Same with cold for the sake of cold. Can't imagine why anyone would actually applaud such dull weather.. really confuses me.
  17. No offence, but you need to stop posting nonsense... it's extremely misleading.
  18. Mostly sunny and 14C today after a mostly sunny day yesterday, reaching 16C - if most days in October were like this I'd be a happy camper - and this, to me, is what autumn is all about - some beautiful but cool-ish sunshine showing off the yellows, oranges and reds. The autumn gales can stay at bay.
  19. Jan-Mar 2013 was certainly a good contender.. never very cold due to the cloud but lots of snow.
  20. February 2008 was very pleasant - very sunny. About as sunny as a typical March.
  21. Lowest October temperature in the UK is -11.7C at Dalwhinnie, 1948.
  22. For falling snow - I'd agree with summer blizzard. Late November onwards. I'll go with 29th of November. For settling snow - it's much less common in November, but usually occurs in December. I'll go with 18th December.
  23. Those charts actually tie in well with many of the winter forecasts for Europe.. British Isles and Scandinavia cold, rest of Europe mild.
