  1. Schnee I think there’s a good chance the front doesn’t even reach here. Arpege only has very light precipitation reaching Leeds.
  2. Hoping that the models continue to shift the front further south, maybe we can get away with a dry day on Thursday while other places get to enjoy the slush.
  3. The Met Office warnings are starting to look a bit silly now with how far south some of the models have shifted. Arpege has snow flirting with London now, with Leeds potentially staying dry all together.
  4. East Lancs Rain I'd be happy with an average summer too, but I will always prefer warmer than average.
  5. Here at 85m asl I'm not expecting much, maybe a slushy centimetre. An entire day of heavy wet snow that struggles to accumulate sounds like a nightmare.
  6. raz.org.rain it was similar on that record breaking day in July 2019 with a hot wind, but still a few degrees cooler.
  7. East Lancs Rain Last spring was a real slow burner, with the first 20C+ days only appearing in mid-May. That was the main issue. April was particularly lacklustre in terms of temperature - we had a higher maximum temperature in March than April for example. The highest temp in April here was only 16.6C, normally we'd see at least 1 day over 20C. March was also quite wet.
  8. 39.8C was recorded at Bramham in Leeds. The wind was genuinely hot like a hairdryer. There was hardly a soul to be seen on that day. We also had two consecutive lows above 20C. It was a surreal experience.
  9. Wingman Blue higher elevations are wetter and duller though. It’s not worth the extra bit of snow.
  10. The near-term output is horrible to be honest. Cold rain for most, maybe even freezing rain. Maybe snow for higher elevations. We've been mild and mostly dry for the past week which I don't mind. Cold and wet is most unwelcome.
  11. TheOgre the recent weather has been fine actually - mild but predominantly dry. The forecast is dire though - cold and wet, but not cold enough for snow. Highs of 5C with rain. Truly the worst of both worlds.
  12. SunSean the Met Office were forecasting cloud all day here but we've had some sunshine. I'll take today's weather for the rest of winter quite happily tbh
  13. cheeky_monkey don't forget those zealots who think the earth is round. why can't they just respect those of us who think the earth is flat?
  14. I'm all for riling up climate change deniers tbh. Good entertainment if nothing else.
  15. East Lancs Rain I didn’t realise Rochdale was so wet! Yes without the Pennines I suspect our average rainfall would meet somewhere in the middle. Snow streamers from the North Sea would probably reach the Isle of Man lol
  16. raz.org.rain locally, June was pretty good (though there was one nasty day with a high of 12C early on). July was very good (even if it was too hot during that exceptional heatwave). August however was simply excellent - I’ve sung the praise of August 2022 many times on here already but it really was a classic summer month.
  17. marky810 the heavy stuff isn't crossing the Pennines though, so I think we'll be fine. Today is actually a pretty good example of the Pennine rain shadow in action:
  18. yeah, I don't understand why this would bother anyone. Cold records are few and far between, warm records are a monthly occurrence. That's the reality of the world we live in.
  19. On the other hand, I find that 20C+ days in March are becoming more common. There was obviously March 2012 which was exceptionally warm, but here we also saw 20C+ temps in March 2021 and March 2022. Before March 2012 I don't think I had ever even experienced a 20C+ day in March.
  20. @TheOgre Parts of Norway are much worse in the winter imo - I'm thinking the SW coast, around Bergen etc. They mostly just get lots and lots of cold rain. Bergen has an average high of 5.3C & an average low of 1.0C in December, with 290mm of rain, 19 days of rain, and 12 hours of sun. Can anywhere in the UK match that level of awfulness?
  21. @In Absence of True Seasons tbf the UK-wide stats are pretty much useless because most of the population lives in much drier areas. I imagine most people in the UK live in areas with under 800mm of rain, and a big percentage lives in areas with under 700mm. My closest station gets 603mm of rain with 114 days of rain on average. Compare that to somewhere like Cologne in western Germany which gets 802mm of rain with 187 days of rain - that would be a very wet year for us.
  22. @East Lancs Rain it’s always interesting how effective the Pennines are at blocking precipitation even though they’re not particularly big. I dread to think how much rain we’d get without them!
  23. 57mm so far in January here. What I find interesting though is that 41mm of that fell on just 3 days. That’s a nice contrast to December where it felt like we had small amounts of rain every day.
  24. 14mm here today. Rainfall for the month is now 57mm, which is wetter than average but not by much (average is 50mm). Only 8 days this month have recorded more than 1mm of rain. The average for January is 11. Most of this month’s rain has fallen on 3 days (14mm today, 12mm on the 2nd & 15mm on the 1st). All in all not an awful month as far as Januaries go.
  25. @marky810 January really hasn't been too bad tbf, at least here. From the 3rd to the 20th we didn't have a single day with more than 1mm of rain, and including today we've only had 8 days with >1mm of rain all month (the average for January is 11). We've had 7mm so far today which actually makes it our wettest day since the 2nd of January. There's very little rain in the forecast after today so I'm not too bothered.
