when i was a boy some of the winters were cold ,the snow came down the chimney as we had no fire no heating anywhere in the house ,we used to cuddle up to the fridge with the doors opened ,the dog would jump into bed with us to keep us warm and sometimes the toilet pot under the bed would freezeup .right on a serious note ,the fire goes on now when the rheumatism starts in my feet ,which it did the other night but it only took an hour to warm the room up. the last few morning have had a nip in the air when iv walked the dog just after dawn ,Autumn seems to be making in roads looking at current forecast charts ,cheers gang ,PS we did not have a fridge when me and my brothers were young just a larder ,and mum would send us to bed with a hot water bottle ,fantastic smell and a cosy feeling .regards .

Some of our showers today here on west Mendip have fired up very quickly ,iv been looking at clusters of showers showing on radar and they seem to be decaying on the radar then firing up again after a bout 30 min or so .but certainly a good day for out in the Garden although a bit breezy ,did see the odd flash of lightning during the early hours but seemed to be way off ,some very angry clouds could be seen with the light of the moon and with the local tawny Owls in song all it needed was a wolf to start howling in the distance and a crack of thunder and i would have been over the moon ,oh well one can wish ,cheers gang .

Well said ,its nice to sit in anticipation not knowing whats lurking just over the horizon ,still a non event here but action possibly brewing up with thundery showers now showing on the radar , ps welcome to Net Weather .

A total non event here on west Mendip so far .a total of 8mm of rain since 11 pm last night ,and currently no wind ,just looking dark and misty ,probably will get lively as the centre of the low pulls away and some lively showers get going .but some parts of the country do look to be more lively going by radar ,and a line of sorts setting up to my far west right now .perhaps Bertha will have a sting in her tail for me .

Just had 3 minutes of very intense rain here on west mendip ,actually about 20 min ago ,the main area of persistant rain approaching from the s west ,and tomorrow could produce some very intense downpours ,rain looks the main troublemaker ,any winds of note further south and south east ,a very blustery day on monday with longer spells of rain and perhaps some slow moving downpours later in the day ,FLAT calm here right now looks like an interesting spell of weather coming up .

Afternoon all ,iv just had a look at radar and satellite and it looks to me that our beloved Bertha is going to arrive a little earlier ,any thoughts from other posters .every possibility that some other warnings .downgrade or upgrade could be added this evening ,still an interesting period coming up .

stand by your beds , no modell no forecaster will get details right for this weekend ,even the Met office as of tonight are struggling with synoptic situation come this sunday .as my next door neighbour who works for the Met says ,Sundays mid day chart could be at least 300 miles eighther way ,current predictions ,wild wet and news worthy [somewhere over the uk ,you may experience some wild weather or you could be sat enjoying a STella under clear sunny skies ,enjoy the weather and remember its not an exact Science ,ok far more precise than 30 yrs ago ,but mother nature is continually foxing us ,a trillion or more segments of data is up there and when tomorrows sun comes up it will change again ,just got a gut feeling that autumn will be early this year ,as i said a gut feeling ,mother nature as not set out her stall yet so how can we possibly predict any outlook , talk on north american forums of a cold and vortick dominated autumn ,NO WAY OF TELLING even with modern computers ,enjoy our unsettled and stormy spell coming up, remember what many of us were predicting or hinting at early december last year ,well it finished up Totally different and a real weather freak of this century ,But possibly happened thousands of times before ,Take care all and tune in tomorrow for an update on ex Bertha T48 hrs ,cheers .

looking at current charts and Data its certainly looking like a very interesting time coming up for us weather enthusiasts and every new run of the Models im sure will give us plenty to talk over and put plenty of Meteorological uncertainty in the further outlook for the uk .I,V said this many times before [we have the best Forum for weather in the world ].this coming week and probably into next as well many places could see high rainfall totals with models now firming up on general detail but as always in a very complex synoptic situation detail will increase with each day ,Energy from the Atlantic and still a strong sun could produce some news worthy weather .i,m pretty sure the papers or some of them will be ramping up the weather stories over the coming days ,but here on Netweather we are more level headed and never Ramp up the weather ,[all agree ]lets pour out a STella sit back and enjoy what Mother Nature May throw our way .

Its realy great when we get a very interesting synoptic situation in the outlook ,great for interest on our forum with charts firming up day by day .Currently the end of this week is looking like it could go several ways looking at todays charts and reading latest Met office further outlook ,but as many have pointed out with all that Energy out in the Atlantic its going to be hard for any Weather Model to get close to positioning at this range .But certainly looks like many different air masses will be in play so lets all enjoy the twists and turns as we go through this week .

Massive cell now building probably will miss me on mendip but could be good towards bristol and area ,the sun had been out for a short while just before the cell fired up .lets hope for some lightning action after dark ,cheers .

Evening gang ,the radar here in north somerset as been showing rain for past two hours but only had spots apart from earlier when we had a deluge just before 3pm .but as of now 7.20pm i can see a massive cell forming even with all this murk about ,it may miss here mendip but looks like towards bristol and channel could very well get a good storm ,please keep reports coming in ,alot is happening in our atmosphere right now so lets hope for some action overnight ,best of luck gang .

yes very true [as you never know ]absolutely pouring down here in north somerset ,although i have been watching the radar the intensity of the rain for the last 25 mins totally caught me out ,interesting period coming up .certainly a radar watching period and certainly i think forecasts will be updated by the hour .we certainly make up for dry periods these days ,probably no different than past history but seems that way .cast your minds back to spring and some were saying we dont get the storms we did years ago ,well wait and you will be rewarded .i think that whats make Meteorology so interesting .computer seems to be playing up so apologes if posted this wrong ,cheers

Any one who is interested in Contrails can find out plenty if you type in the science of contrails on google .you can also understand the upper atmosphere as for instance if the air is dry short tails ,wide and bumpy more moisture etc ,its a new science but handy if you want to understand upper air patterns etc .

Very quiet Forum ,perhaps all enjoying sunnyweather or many just working .Most charts now hinting at unsettled weather in the outlook but i can only see a broad picture emerging looking at todays charts ,perhaps as we get more info over the coming days any detail can then be painted in .the main interest i feel is that the atlantic is brewing up but which way any energy goes is still up for finer detail .oh well a good summer so far which helps after the winter of hell for some .catch up with you all later ,cheers .

Good afternoon all ,well looking at current charts data ,plenty of good summer weather to be had this coming week no heatwave but many locations above average for late july .past 144hrs all could change ,with low pressure moving in from the east or s east but at this range i would not like to call a major change .the met office are hinting at a much wetter episode in the extended outlook but as we all know this could set up further east with the uk catching another round of warm thundery weather type or low pressure could set up right over good old UK ,there i feel are many options on the table at this range ,but worth bearing in mind all main modells hinting at an unsettled start to August in my opinion but come this evenings runs all could change .As always enough in the charts to keep us Modellers interested and its still BBQ weather so lets enjoy ,Before you know it Frosty will be about with his Snow charts ,take care all .

quite a gusty wind picking up here on mendip ,action kicking off over towards swindon way ,would have thought some would catch some action ,best of luck to those lucky ones .

Clouds starting to build to my east [im in north somerset west mendip ] also wind is picking up ,noticed some cells forming on satellite out east but nothing picked up by radar yet ,very isolated possibilitys but if its you you could enjoy an evening storm ,CHEERS .

any storms or showers today do look very isolated in nature ,but i personally have known in the past that in this sort of set up if you catch one especially if it is slow moving it can provide some welcome Action .so best of luck for all in areas forecasted ,crack open those Stellas and boil a kettle outside for some added moisture

Well generally speaking ,we had a good thundery spell over the weekend and of course thurs/fri .it will always be the case that many will miss out and many will get their overhead or near storm ,i did well but of course it was better further east or west ,there used to be a time when i,d stay up most of the night if a storm was possible ,but now i say to myself ,leave the windows open if its that close it should wake you up .as for the possibilitys this end of week ,if your under one it could be good ,sometimes in these sort of situations something good could turn up on your patch .lets hope those that missed out will get their turn ,Chill out and crack open a STella [or two ]

An amazing Anvil started forming about 6.30pm out over exmoor ,its now moving closer with constant rumbles ,looking on radar its a very small affair but given what i can see from here on west mendip it could very well be locally severe ,any reports from that area ,especially bridge water way etc ,cheers .

just had 10 mins of action ,another line now approaching from the south ,looks very hit and miss though ,best of luck to all .i would think once the sun gets to work things could pop up very quickly ,cheers .

Looks like our present system is still maturing as it heads north ,although the eastern part of this system is narrower its gradually picking up energy ,im expecting to see lightning from this in north somerset come 11pm if not before .tomorrow nights looks possibly the dogs dinner with i should think very intense action from mother nature but locations even at this range still uncertain ,any posters in the sweet spot fri/sat take cover ,hope the action though is spread out .MY KETTLE IS GOING ON its war on flying ants ,gave a pint of blood today ,so i lost a pound in weight so i deserve a sausage sandwich brown sauce ,off to see if theres any flashes out south or west cheers all .

Evening all ,just spent the day sorting out family matters ,i,v just had a look at all the charts and spent a good while talking to my neighbour who works for a large construction company ,the Met office as given some information to this company that the weather fri/ sat could be extremely severe ,so go carefull what you wish for ,yes its great when we get a severe storm but some people could get that word severe flood which if it happens is about as bad as life can get ,lets hope that many receive fantastic lightning but the rest is spread over the country ,there is some very cold air aloft and with the sun just past its strongest the potential for real fireworks ,tomorrows Fax charts will be very interesting im off to crack open a STella cheers to all and lets hope many see some action [theres action and hell ]but what will be will be ,cheers ,

preparations are already under way for this fri /sat in our household ,All knives forks spoons put away ,lightning conductor will be erected ,clothes line folded up and covered all metal objects put in the shed .A BIG SHOP and sand bags to the ready ,STellas on ice ,we all know im sure that detail will change but we do i feel have a good chance ,better than boring total high pressure dominance ,lets hope many of us get some of the action ,cheers .

Well we are in with a good chance come friday ,Mother nature could give some of us a spectacular show ,but as stated by most forecasts areas prone at the moment are only broadly covered so dont let us get our hopes up ,just fingers crossed that many of us will see some action .Of course any overnight action to me is the grail ,Fax charts now will become our best guidance but dont expect finer detail untill Thursday .I say bring it on and crack open the STellas ,
