  1. Met Office has updated the amber wind warning for SE England - it is to be lifted earlier. Is this because the Low pressure is further south than expected and the strongest winds are now also further south. Wind gusts have calmed a bit here as the centre gets closer.

  2. I think we are reaching peak wind gusts here in Eastbourne...the power flickered a few moments ago...really rattling and banging the roof... judging by the low pressure centre it does seem a little more south then originally forecast / modelled...some places obviously not getting strong winds due to the calmer centre area? 🤔🌬️☔

  3. I live in Eastbourne just two blocks in from the pier / seafront and have been concerned about this since Sunday - I live in a top floor flat with a slate roof which is at risk. Slept through the 1987 Great Storm but got evacuated from school during the Burns Day Storm of 1990 - our class watched the workmen's trailer slowly flip across the playground.

I hope that everyone stays safe along the south west, southern and south east coasts as this is going to be pretty extreme and is probably the windiest for quite a while...we had one storm with 75mph gusts in the past decade, but this is supposed to be a little higher and for much longer.

If the higher and stronger gusts are correct then the Channel Islands and Northern France are in for a pretty worrying night.

Don't even mention the rainfall amounts on already saturated ground 😔

  4. Last night was good for Eastbourne but it took a while to arrive - lots of IC ligthning - quite bright but the thunderstorm was elevated so thunder was a bit subdued...there were two cells I think and it was quite active out at sea but dropped in activity as it got closer...we had gusty winds and then heavy rain which was very welcome. Plenty of leaves and roof moss accumulating on the ground near drains from the run off. Pretty much all gone early this morning - we had some low level crud which had gone by 8am only to be replaced with Cirrus outflow. Looks like thundery rain is heading our way now so will be interesting to see how this interacts with our landmass later as temps rise.

  5. I'm quite surprised that even after Eunice the winds are still very strong and damaging - as later today we now have a squall going through.

XE is suggesting gusts to 66mph for my location - again not far off what Eunice gave us. The yellow warning may well be changed / updated.

As to naming it a storm system then I think more yes than no - the strong and gusty winds over the next 24 hours are affecting most of the country.

  6. Still pretty gusty out here in Eastbourne - I had trouble walking in it earlier. Sea was very rough but thankfully this was not a spring tide so minimal splash points. However most of the coastal replenishment has now been eroded.

Some damage around including the Pier with minor roof damage, beach huts blown over, tiles/brickwork have fallen onto a parked car and smashed the rear windscreen. I think the winds are peaking now and thankful we didn't see the potential 90mph+ gusts.

XC is now forecasting 70mph gusts tomorrow which is an upgrade, so this may coincide with the passing rain band or possible squall?

  7. Someone mentioned Feshwater on the Isle Of Wight as the BBC website is showing insane gust speeds for tommorrow morning - 115mph!

    14-day weather forecast for Freshwater.

I do not recall seeing such high gust speeds for a long time - I've experienced 70-75mph once here in Eastbourne. I hope people notice the warnings and take exceptional care.

The only thing that could mean is the lightning detectors aren’t working? Because it can only be looking at the channel where there is no lightning apparently?

We had this yesterday - its intra cloud strikes not being picked up in the Channel when I was watching a storm off Eastbourne. I did see elevated flashes in that direction about half an hour ago.

Anyone got a great view from Eastbourne. They look closest to the channel storms

Yes I'm right on the seafront looking S-SW - plenty of outflow winds but its just dissipating / breaking up - nothing I can see yet looks like rain. Thunder and lightning staying on the French side by the looks of it and will track east / north east. I imagine we'll just get convective rain.
