  1. Band just passing south Stirling. Not long and I will know if rain or snow.
  2. Aye the excitement starts this evening all eyes to the north. Wouldn't think anything wintry will fall until at least 5pm!
  3. Traffic Scotland A band of rain, sleet and snow will move south across northern and eastern Scotland later on Friday, then into the Borders and northeast England on Friday night. The snow will mainly affect high ground at first but will fall to lower levels on Friday night. 1-4 cm is likely at some lower levels but with 5-10 cm above 150 m, with drifting in the strong to gale force north or northwesterly winds. Indeed severe gales with gusts to 60 mph could bring a short period of blizzard conditions to the highest routes later Friday evening and overnight. The more persistent snow and strong winds will have cleared by Saturday morning but ice will be an additional hazard by then, particularly for higher level routes. Please be aware of the likelihood of some difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption. Affected Areas Angus Dundee Fife Perth and Kinross Possible effects of snow Increased stopping distance Reduced visibility Increased journey time Lane markings obscured Obstructions on the road (abandoned vehicles) Risk of ice patches Snow gate closures Valid: 20 Nov 2015 - 16:00 to 21 Nov 2015 - 10:00. Last updated: 19 Nov 2015 - 10:45
  4. Why are cold spells short and mild spells long. Couldn't it be the other way about it's so unfair! It's a bit like the fruit pastiles. You always get hunners of yellow and orange ones that nobody wants and a few token red and black ones!
  5. Ok folks now the weather and charts are getting interesting. Time I signed on again to the thread. I think this is officially the start of winter, next week and later on looks really interesting! The mild mush of late October and Early November is behind us...hopefully! Might get a December Ski day this year. Always seem to busy to get one in but determined this year! http://www.winterhighland.info/cams/glencoe/
  6. Been waiting 2 months for a dry weekend to paint my shed and decklng. Seems kind of pointless now the nights are drawing in!
  7. It's August tomorow. Monday is to be briefly milder and then back to the north westerlies. With this pattern fixed in place.I suggest we will get our first proper mountain snow of the autumn in late August this year. Summer is overated anyway!
  8. Yes Norrance expecting 7cm lying snow on the Ben on Thursday. Let's see how cold it gets.
  9. Disnae snow very often at the end of July on the Ben. 2015 is the exception: http://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Ben-Nevis/forecasts/1344
  10. Am I the first to say it:" The nights are fair drawin in". Can't wait for October...this summer stuff in Scotland is just boring!
  11. 2000ft at Nevis...Mountain bike World cup on Saturday!
  12. Think that is our rain, sleet and snaw over north west Eire at the moment!
  13. Snowing on the Rest and Be Thankful just! So Snowline is about 700 -800ft.
  14. If it does snow as forecast in some days of May. I will have had falling snow in every month since December 2014. So that will be 6 months where snow has fallen from the sky. Late snow is really interesting. Just shows how fragile our weather can be at times. Just want the Glencoe ski centre to get buried again on Saturday/Sunday. They were just hanging onto the poma uptrack.
  15. Winter well and truly back after Friday. Some incredibly cold uppers on the way. Could even be snow down to about 300ft! Glencoe plans to stay open till May Day. All this sun is impacting on the slopes. Was there today still full cover. Getting dodgy. If they can just get through this week then plenty of new snow to come. They might even stay open beyond May day! Why not if there is fresh snow.
  16. Off to Glencoe tomorrow. Wind looks OK there. Snow down to car park again!
  17. Ochils have their winter coat back on. Could be an interesting 24 hours.
  18. Glencoe are reporting top to bottom 2400ft vertical! This is incredible for April. You can slide from the very summit down to the Rannoch Moor at 1200ft ASL. I have never known the access runs to be open as long as they have this year. They lost them at the start of March briefly and then they got refilled at the end of March. Guess where I am going on Saturday!
  19. Ravelin - Cairngorm will be hoaching! I am heading to Coe Saturday and Nevis Sunday. Back corries and Braveheart likely to be running. Went to Nevis two weeks ago and it was fantastic. Snow is patchy in Cairngorm.
  20. Best chance for lying snow tonight, if the showers keep up.
  21. Rannoch Moor pretty white now. Might even be top to bottom skiing at the weekend right down to the car park runs!
  22. So I have had snowfall in December , January, February , March and possibly April. Pity none of it lies very long, but can't have been that warm a winter.
  23. Snow was starting to land when I left the house. Interesting to see what the intense band delivers tonight!
  24. Hairy spring begins when the first ray of sunshine hits Essex ...how can you not know that! Lol! Anyway I am delighted the Ski Centres are getting hammered with snow. Looking forward to a good ski weekend next week. Might even be low level snow from tonight.
  25. Great pics Ross. I was also in the back corries on Sunday. The missus was doubting me when I said the Braveheart was due to spin. A great days skiing, although we took the easy entrance from just above Yellow Belly. As the cornices were ridiculous and the entry too firm for hero jumping! The Goose at the end of the day was fantastic as well after the racers had churned it up for us!
