Hi all... I am Greek man 30 years old living in Germany...
While during the nights and especially during 5-7 am i feel the cold, during the days the situation is different.
I need 12 degrees C, to feel cold with short sleeve shirt and there will be the need to wear long sleeve shirt and then i need 7-8 degrees C to wear a jacket, while Germans wear long sleeve shirt with jacket from 17-18 degrees.
So everything is ok with me, i am just different or i have a health problem? Soon, I am gonna have health exams, so what exactly i have to focus on?
Thanks in advance.

I have found an apartment that is located exactly above the river Rhine in Mannheim, Germany.
See an image here: https://i.imgur.com/Xo8MfeC_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium
Before i sign and pay, i should be sure there will not be any serious problem, living in this situation. So what is your opinion? It is exactly like living far from river or it is completely different?
What about some annoying insects, like mosquitoes, or american cockroaches or german cockroaches? What about spiders? Generally speaking, in all Germany what is the "boss" of these animals?
I have the following experiences:
Athens, Greece: American cockroaches
Countryside, Greece: Spiders
Toronto, Canada: Bed bugs
Gdansk, Poland: Cockroaches (smaller than the american ones, maybe german)
So what is the "boss" of these animals in Germany, and especially in Mannheim?
Also what about living in enviroment with high amounts of moisture and humidity? There should be some problems? What about allergies?
And what about the pollution of the river?
Since the position of the apartment is high, i am not afraid of flooding or overflowing.
Thanks in advance.

In this thread we will discuss about cyclone phenomena, and I start:
1) When two cyclones are met and merge and create a stronger cyclone, how this phenomenon is called?
2) When two cyclones are met and collide and both are impoverished, how this phenomenon is called?
3) When a cyclone is divided into two separate cyclones, how this phenomenon is called?
4) When a cyclone changes ocean (for example from Pacific to Atlantic) or changes part of ocean (from hurricane in north - eastern Pacific to typhoon in north - western Pacific), how this phenomenon is called?
So, let's discuss... Say other phenomena too... Can a cyclone have two eyes? -
Taiwan is preparing for the arrival of Nepartak, a massive typhoon that is expected to cause heavy rains and flooding.
Typhoons are common in Taiwan - category 5 typhoons, though, are not that usual. Since 1950 there have been 18 cyclones of this most violent category, and Super Typhoon Nepartak would be number 19.
It is the first named storm of 2016 and is currently a category 5, as defined by the Saffir-Simpson international scale.
Even though the major El Nino of last year has now collapsed, the northwest Pacific typhoon season is having its second slowest start in nearly 70 years. That will be of no comfort to the inhabitants of Taiwan who can expect the onset of typhoon weather later on Thursday.
Taitung and Hualien counties in eastern Taiwan are likely to be the first to be hit by Nepartak. They contain a long, low river valley so flooding is likely. The forecast rainfall is expected to be at least 300mm.
Current measurements by NASA suggest cloud tops of 17,000 metres, or 56,000 feet, which mean that thunderheads around the typhoon's eye are punching through the top of the atmosphere. Rainfall rates over the ocean could be as high as 190mm per hour.
As Nepartak's eye makes landfall, it will lift the Pacific's surface by between one and two metres in what is known as a "storm surge". This is often the most devastating element of a typhoon, being similar to a small tsunami.
In the case of Super Typhoon Nepartak, the wind could also be destructive. Steady winds of 230 kilometres an hour will be boosted by gusts as high as 280km/h.
Curiously, this is the second typhoon called Nepartak, the first being a mere category 1 storm that hit the Philippines in November 2003.
Appropriately, the epithet Nepartak is derived from the name of a conquering warrior from the island of Kosrae in Micronesia.
Nepartak is likely to lose a lot of energy over Taiwan, but it is forecast to regain some strength over the Taiwan Strait.
The Chinese mainland is then under threat, mostly from torrential rainfall, as Nepartak makes landfall on the vulnerable coast of Fujian Province.

It will become tropical storm tomorrow and tropical hurricane cat 1 in Sunday:
I think both with Blas are in safe - non land area.

Ships from North America to Australia - New Zealand or from South America, to eastern Asia, should be careful. -

What about 1996 Lake Huron cyclone: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Lake_Huron_cyclone
Or October 2010 North American storm complex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_2010_North_American_storm_complex
Or Hurricane Sandy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Sandy
I think Great Lakes are more complicated than oceans... -
The last period I live in Toronto - Ontario, Canada, and I wonder if I will be able to see something extreme, like hurricane... Extratropical cyclone? Very low pressure that will be born in Great Lakes? What do you think? For classical hurricanes, I live very north, and far away from Atlantic Ocean?

There are many apps that display the current air temperature of my location in notification bar. But I want one that displays the current wind speed (kmh), and wind chill (C) of my location in notification bar. Do you have an idea? Thanks in advance.

A quick glance for Ontario in ten days (paywalled)
Thanks, but for me it is difficult to find there, the forecast for the temperature in 850 hPa and 500 hPa.

Hi everyone. In a week i will be in Ontario, so I am wondering, what is the best way to see the 850 and 500 in this region. Something like gfs in Europe?

What is your opinion about Oceanography or Ocean Engineering graduate studies? I already have a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and now I work as mobile - machine learning developer. But my dream is to deal with Oceans. I want to focus on the Ocean meteorology, Ocean waves, Ocean geography and maybe Naval Engineering. What is your opinion? Do you know any good universities in Europe or North America (especially Canada)? Can you suggest me a few books for introduction?
So far, I have found this in Canada: http://www.mcgill.ca/gradapplicants/atmospheric-and-oceanic-sciences-0
Thanks in advance. -
The first heat wave is coming in Athens this week so I am wondering about a few things...
About the degrees of wet bulb temperature, when does body feel hot? When body feels heat wave? What degrees of wet-bulb temperature are dangerous for the health?
Wiki just says:
A sustained wet-bulb temperature exceeding 35 °C is likely to be fatal even to fit and healthy people, unclothed in the shade next to a fan; at this temperature we switch from cooling the skin (losing heat to the environment), to warming it.
Thanks in advance...

Yes and it also saves the data to a virtual ram. This is the major sense, you can see the graph of wind speed in respect of time. And you can go to any point you want, for seeing its value.
-
Weather stations do not records gusts, only wind speed. A gust is then calculated after the event as the highest returned speed over a range of data packets from the sensor. Even if the Maplin one above returns data every 48 seconds, it may be actually recording data more often than that (you will have to dig deep into the specs for this) so when it sends a transmission to the console it may be working gust out from the highest speed recorded over several sets of data. However, the frequency of data sets recorded vs. the frequency of data sets transmitted is very different for different weather stations.
I understood, but why so awful calculations? My Kestrel 4500 NV, updated every second and it shows the real gust. For example it can show current wind speed in 32-second 31 mph, current wind speed in 33-second 31 mph and gust 33 mph, because it felt this, for example, in 32,7 second.
Why don't I feel the cold?

Hi Karyo, i hope we are just the exception to the rule... Just worrying a little about the blood pressure...
About the heat, i feel it early, but i am used to it, without much problem... Just cold shower every day or maybe 2 times per day, plus air conditioning and that's all.
