  1. If you dredge the rivers , it gets water away in the drier summer months allowing the land to dry out , which in turn gives a greater area to soak up excess water in winter , problem in recent years is RSPB and other nature based organisations campaigning to keep water table higher in summer .so when it rains in winter it just sits on the surface or worse Just what they think happens to the badgers ,foxes and other small mammals in winter covered by an inland sea is beyond me . . .
  2. wow thunder and lightning at Emborough and very heavy rain showers , give the grass / shrubs a good drink , they were needing it .
  3. dont often get decent th-storms from the west or south on the western- mid mendips due to steep slopes around penhill and beyond ,they all slip along the bottom around shepton to frome or bruton the best ones come from the north or north west brewed in wales , same for snow fall .
  4. couldn't agree more , as someone who spends all day outside , I have stopped reading the spring discussion mod threads simply because , many that seem to be posting on there only tend to be looking at , is b+++y snow , days and days away on whatever model floats their boat (boring ) , the weather is interesting and enjoy informed discussion on all aspects of it, whether hot or cold it doesn't have to be a record to be of interest ,
  5. couldn't agree more , thousands of lambs have been lost in the last few days , crops arnt planted those that are are dying after the wet of winter , and times getting on , the massive increase in the cost of food come late summer , before we even think about heating fuel , might take the edge off any exciting weather event ,
  6. Roofs on all the sheep sheds dripping here , @ 750' up on the Mendips ,
  7. yep thanks , and have lambs out now , so while i dont mind a bit of snow i dont want extended cold weather either
  8. being a bit of a newbie with regard to maps , after this snow , why are some forecasts showing warmish air 5 - 7 c day and temps aroud 0c at night (bbc meto ,)by monday and others severe cold nights down to -10 c and not above freezing in the day for the foreseeable future ?

  13. dont recon much tonight here on the mendips , main event MAY be this time next week according to simon , after a severe frost midweek ,
  14. hmm ............ end of next week not looking so rosy here in somerset at present , maybe a bit of guesswork by the press http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/8550522/Wimbledon-and-Glastonbury-set-to-be-scorching.html
  15. All us farmers had a very dry one last year and only just made enough feed to see us through this last winter , the early spring saved us , BUT continued dry weather will have an alarming effect on food prices if we get another one , Just about passed the traditional fill dyke period , and we need some dry in ,june, july so we are fast running out of time . oh for just a normal year , no records of any sort , when was the last one ?
  16. yea im fed up with it as well , cant get out of it , the house is always chilled , even with the heating on , though a long way to go for the longest cold , rememebr last winter .the cold wind just went on and on ............. mild rain on the horizon soon .
