It seems surprisingly there's literally nothing coming off the North Sea in this strong easterly wind. Especially as it's so cloudy and there's clearly moisture about (there's a hint of snizzle every now and then).
It's clear, as far as I know. There have been some issues with drifting, so it might be slow in places, and some of the backroads in Skipton itself are very icy with compacted snow, etc. But the main route should be okay.
Can anyone confirm if the very localised showers showing on the radar are real? Some v close to us around Skipton (but not a direct hit). Some more near Harrogate / Knaresborough. They seemed to just appear, rather than being part of the big bulk of snow to the south west or having moved across the east.
Met Office has snow for us from about midnight, with heavy snow around 2 in the morning, but I can't see where it's coming from. They also now seem to agree with the BBC that we might get sleet and rain from Sunday pm.
I'm sure we've more than 2013 or 2010 here (we're very close to you, Cowdog, but in the valley (not actually in Skipton) - I think there was a lot more on the tops in 2013 than down here.
Looks like we're getting to the end of this snow (although quite a bit coming down at the moment). Is anything coming along behind it, or do we think it'll be a quieter afternoon? The radar doesn't seem to show much in the sea (other than further north).
We've got more than 2010 here now. (Obviously 2010 it stuck around for a very long time).
Still coming down like mad. Going to have a wander in it shortly, see what the roads are like.
Have you all had a bit now? Everyone happy?
Snowing like mad here. In the bits where it was still deep from yesterday there must be quite some depth now - will stick ruler in the middle of the lawn later to see!!
Been out making snowmen with my daughter. Snow's a bit powdery for it, but plenty of it. Has melted a bit, but still plenty: not like our last decent snowfall earlier in the winter when it was all gone by teatime.
If we get more showers overnight, should have another snowy day tomorrow (though maybe with the schools open...)
Oddly even though it's been snowing most of the morning, there's been a fair bit of melting on paths and roads. Wonder when it starts to cool off again?
Met office now suggesting a period of sustained heavy snow tomorrow (here anyway).
They got it right for us: deep snow, kid’s school closed... will be interesting to see if they’re right tomorrow too. Maybe someone else will get it.
Really good dumping here. Most we've had for a few years I'd say, and still coming down. Will try and measure, but from fences, etc. I'd guess 5-10 cm.
