Completely agree. I have followed this forum for several winters now, and whilst the number of hugely useful posts and knowledgable members has increased, so have the the pointless comments. Mods, will probably delete this, but I'm tuning out for the rest of the winter, as I can just see the amount of model complaining/binning going through the roof in these final few weeks, and sadly this needs to go. Hopefully when I return, the ratio of useful posts to 'I'm binning this chart because it's not showing the next ice age' has increased!

Take a look at the radar, that block of precipitation that left London 20 minutes ago could make it to you!

Nah it's fine. I find it hard to get too excited about snow here after spending last winter living in the Alps... No marginality there, when a decent front through 40cms was fairly common with the odd dump exceeding a meter! If only we were like that in the UK!

Go ahead! Would rather see other people enjoying the snow. Seeing some is better then seeing none! Yeah, nuts how you're only 25 miles from here... As I said earlier, so marginal! Hope you enjoy any lying stuff in the morning!

Haha, that's a small consolation I guess, thanks! It is now snowing here a little heavier, but there is literally no chance of it sticking. All that heavy precipitation sliding north west is going to miss us by a good 50 miles too. Zzzzzzz

Yeah, fingers crossed ey mate! I swear this winter has been a black hole for the snow here? Even the other week we only ended up with a small amount compared to what some were reporting just north and south of here!

Mmm it's been another disappointing evening here in Loughborough... Not even a dusting on the pavements or cars! Unless anybody believes differently, I'd say it's game over here for sure.

Yeah, was very hit and miss down there, but it's where I saw the heaviest snow and covered roads. Everything around Leicester just look wet. As others are saying, I do think things are very localised!

Just got the train up from London to East Midlands Parkway... From what I could see, heaviest snow was around the Luton area. The closer to the East Midlands I got the wetter things looked. The roads and pavements are completely clear, with the last white platform being Kettering.

I literally have no idea what's going on here... I can't post any charts as I am on the iPad I'm afraid, but if you went by the GFS precipitation type charts on the 06Z, you'd see most areas north of the M4 getting some moderate snow from 6pm onwards. Compare this to the bbc and met office forecasts and all you see forecast for many areas is rain, and even this stops at around 6pm for many... Now as you may be able to tell, I am no expert. But can the GFS really be so wrong just 12 hours before an event? NAE shows decent snow opportunities too.... So the question (from a very confused beginner model watcher), am I reading the charts wrong, are the charts themselves wrong, or are the MetO/BBC likely to be wrong? My money is on me reading the models wrong Hopefully somebody can help!

Guys, keep our feet on the ground here please... Fantastic insight again from Ian, great to have that sort of data being shared on here.... However, yellow warnings at 4 to 5 days out doesn't guarantee us snow... We had amber warnings when I was up in the east mids the other week, and they remained in place right through what was supposed to be a major snow event - nothing but rain. This said, It's great to see that the Met Office deem the risk of snow to be high enough on Sun/Mon to issue these warnings already, a very positive sign for all cold lovers! Just keep our feet on the ground, and keep a close eye on the charts. Don't want too many sad faces in here if things don't go our way!

Thanks for the answer, appreciate it! So odds are that we will see temperatures a few degrees cooler than those currently forecast, as charts home in on the finer details nearer the time... Fingers crossed the cold pool can fight it out through next week!

First post in here, and a bit of a beginner's question, but here goes. Have been looking at all these cold charts and reading everybody's posts re. snow and easterly winds etc, yet daytime temperatures are set to remain 3 or 4 degrees above freezing quite widely across the UK throughout? Now I know that these forecasts are based on GFS output (I think), but should the ECM be the model that verifies what kind of daytime temperatures would we be looking to experience across the country? My model reading skills aren't high enough to interpret the ECM showings and equate this to ground temps Thanks in advance to anybody who answers, and apologies if it is a stupid question....

Hoping the parts Exmoor get some accumulations tonight. Have got the day off tomorrow so might take the skis up and try and find a nice hill! (I might be being a little optimistic here...)

If you want to experience a stiff breeze, come up to the North Devon coast... I'm right on the beach, and would definitely not want to be out at sea tonight!

Guys, we were forecast to get sleet turning to snow? This may yet be proved wrong, but the majority of people seem to be reporting exactly this? As I've said, the snow isn't really due until around midnight, when the bulk of the heaviest precipitation passes over. I could always be wrong, so don't shoot me if it rains all night... Just relaying what's been forecast by the MetO and other charts.

Snow here in Loughborough I think. Haven't been out, but looking out the window, the car park has gone white. Looks pretty snow like under the street lamps too! All very marginal it would appear! I am still backing widespread snow towards midnight. Hoping there won't be too many of us unhappy tomorrow morning!

Forecast has always been for sleety stuff around the edges of the precipitation band. Once the heavy stuff moves over, the majority of us should be seeing snow. Keep those fingers crossed, a very interesting few hours to come.

I was just replying to another comment about the rain being reported in the West Midlands, saying that rain is more of a risk than the precipitation missing (I think both is very unlikely). Have also just checked out the local weather station, and pretty similar temps to the Countesthorpe one. Also just checked a station just west of Birmingham, showing dew temps of only just below freezing, and temps above. Explains the marginality over there. We'll be fine.

Agreed. Although the majority of us should be OK to see a snow event. Dew points and temps should be holding up better over here according to the charts. You're right though, the marginality of snow to rain is more of a concern than the track of the precipitation.

Yeah, I think Loughborough has to have been one of the poorer areas... Only a inch or so left here. I do live pretty central mind! I do think the whole area is still in for a pasting later though. As I keep saying, all the forecasts still look pretty good, and even on radar there is that large area of precipitation over South Wales which seems to be heading straight on up to us.
