Some tasty looking showers forming nr north wales already, If we see showers of that intensity through the night 1 or 2 could see upto 5cm covering by the morning perhaps.
I was just about to say the same thing..........bodes well for this region later on, methinks.

I see the UK Snow Map (http://uksnowmap.com) is starting to show a bit more activity now. Still very early.

Temp now dropped to 3.2C. Dew point at 1,2C. Still moderate rain here.
It may well turn to sleet before it clears.
We must keep the faith though. Little bits of slap on the car windscreen 10 minutes ago, so one never knows.

Still time for a quick round of golf, MIA..........?

Bulk of the heaviest stuff is a bit too far south as i thought.
Don't worry about the heavier stuff, that was never really forecast to reach these parts anyway.

I remember well the snow, rain & freeze of Jan 2004(?) when it took me nearly 7 hours to get from Cradley Heath home to South Staffs. The Dudley gritters came out in the afternoon when it was snowing and then it turned to rain and then the skies cleared at about 4pm which caused a rapid freeze. The gritters tried to get out again but by then it was rush hour and gridlock throughout the Black Country and Brum.
I remember that event like it was yesterday. I was working near Birmingham city centre at the time, and once the roads froze most vehicles were struggling to get up any sort of incline. Five Ways island was dreadful because the buses couldn't cope with the gentle slope approaching the island, their wheels kept spinning and eventually they'd slowly slide backwards! I somehow got to Solihull a couple of hours late, but some of my colleagues didn't get home until the early hours because of all the chaos.

Morning Bish! Wondered where you were
Mmm, hope you're wrong (in the nicest possible way), would be nice to see some snow falling in daylight, but I'll take overnight if that's all that's on offer!
Hi Fizz, after the last few (awful) winters I think most of us will be happy to see even a small amount of falling/lying snow - fingers crossed
PS did you remember to power down the Solihull snow shield?

Fizz, personally I think overnight might contain a bit more potential for us rather than this afternoon - would love to be proven wrong, though!
Currently 4.9°C with a Dp of 2.0°C - the colder air should be here by early afternoon.

It absolutely bucketed it down here for several hour last night. 17.3 mm from early evening onward.

A bone-chilling -3.5°C here this morning, our coldest November min since 2013.

Ah, it's just like old times isn't it? Seeing lots of amazing snow charts for the Peak District part of our region, and feeling outright jealousy..........

Thanks MIA............I recorded an overnight low of 0.8°C, so very similar to yourself by the sounds of it.

Good morning, everyone! Just thought I'd pop by and say hello, for what seems like the first time in ages
Great to see most of the old gang still posting here, plus plenty of new faces which is very cool.
On the subject of cool.........this morning I noted my first frost of the season, although the temperature didn't quite manage to dip below freezing

PS has Fizz emerged from her winter hibernation yet?

Bish..
From your post it reads as if you have your own weather station now.
I am pleased that our minima were so close as it ties in with my own evidence that my temps although low (for nearly central Solihull ) were easily beaten in the sticks. I was visiting friends on the estate by the Widney Manor golf course and when I left my car temp there was 2C lower than when I arrived home. So I think very low temps must have been recorded in the rural areas.
Also does you weather station show a dew point? Mine dropped to -7.8C minimum and I would like to compare?
Thanks
MIA
Hi MIA,
Nope, I'm still using good old Monkspath weather station.
The lowest dew point last night, from what I can tell, was -6.1°C

Indeed, it's turning out to be another beautiful winter's day here, bright sunshine but still very chilly. Currently 2.8°C and still climbing.
Sounds like tonight might be the final 'proper' cold one of this spell.

We managed a low of -5.7°C here this morning, my coldest recording since early April 2013
Currently -2.5°C

Some talk in the MOD about Feb 91.... now i was living in the South East that year and i clearly remember it.... massive amounts of snow freezing cold temps.. but im wondering how the Midlands did during that spell?? can anybody remember what it was like back then???
Feb '91 was pure Snowmageddon round these parts, the second absolutely massive fall of snow that particular winter. A vintage easterly.

Hello one & all
Thought I'd finally make an appearance in here after what seems like an absolute eternity. Sadly December and January wasn't the happiest time for me personally as I was dealing with the passing of my father, so I was mostly a lurker during the December snow events.
So how is everyone? Any cold weather on the horizon for us?
