  1. Blimey, it all went a bit Biblical for a little while - howling wind coupled with torrential rain. Just heard an almighty cracking noise in the back garden, and one of the main branches of our beautiful silver birch tree has snapped and is hanging precariously Bish
  2. It's absolutely bucketing down now, Hallelujah!!!!! Genuinely chilly as well, 14.2°C compared to 29.1°C this time yesterday. Bish
  3. We're starting to see some quite decent squally showers here now. It'd be nice if we could squeeze in a few bonus mm today before the main liquid feast arrives tomorrow. Every single drop is vital, because next week looks like turning increasingly warm & dry once again. Bish
  4. Incredibly blustery here. Lots of dark clouds shooting by, but none of them are producing anything bar the odd spot or two. We had a tiny amount of rain overnight, but not enough to make any difference. At least tomorrow looks like finally delivering. Currently 17.1°C, which is down approximately 10°C compared to the same time yesterday! Bish
  5. Blimey, it's really starting to kick off to the east! Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire should be right in the firing line. The radar is even detecting some ppn to the south of Stratford-upon-Avon, fingers crossed it develops into something substantial and heads right this way..... Currently 30.7°C with a dp of 13.9°C Bish
  6. We managed to reach 31.5°C here an hour ago, although it seems to have mostly clouded over since. Currently 29.9°C with a dp of 13.6°C If it wasn't for all this cloud, the maxes today would've been scary-hot Bish
  7. 28.6°C here, pretty impressive considering the amount of hazy cloud, although we have had some longer spells of sunshine as well. Looks like the East and North of the region are the places to be re potential thunderstorms later today, although anywhere is in with a chance - good luck everyone! Bish
  8. We edged just above 30°C an hour or so ago, despite the extra cloud this afternoon and a noticeable breeze. Currently 28.9°C Took a walk up to Chessetts Wood this morning, very picturesque but bloomin' hot Bish
  9. Wow, it's 28.4°C here, and still rising. I had realised today was supposed to get this warm. At least we have a decent breeze today, however. Bish
  10. We had around an hour or so of light-to-moderate rain here, with more possibly on the way from the NW later this evening. The local weather station says a whopping 0.50mm has fallen so far, not sure how accurate that reading is because there are a few small puddles dotted around. Bish
  11. At last, it's actually RAINING here!!!!! Proper, actual rain than I can even hear falling on the roof!!!! Bish
  12. Very light rain here right now. Barely enough to bother the rain gauge though! Bish
  13. I suppose I can just about put up with extreme heat (i.e. maxes of 33°C or above) for a short while, but only if it coincides with a significantly increased risk of big thunderstorms. Bish
  14. We had a five minute light shower here at around eight o'clock which was so light, it didn't even register a measurement at the local weather station. The rest of the week looks cloudy but dry from what I can see. The drought continues! Bish
  15. Plenty of wet stuff heading into the region from the SW right now. But, as with last week, will it keep its intensity or just fizzle away into nothing? Bish
  16. I have to admit to never having heard of the Vale of Belvoir before - judging by a quick Google Images search, a very beautiful area indeed Bish
  17. Same here as well. So near and yet so far! Bish
  18. The wind has really whipped up in the last few minutes as well, usually a telling sign that something is afoot! Bish
  19. Good to hear of some intense thundery activity elsewhere in the region The sky to the south and west of here seems to be turning steadily darker........ Bish
  20. I've attached two contrasting images of my back garden, one from July 2017 and the other from yesterday afternoon. Believe me, we need all the rain we can get! Bish
  21. Our last measurable rain here was 1.25mm on June 16th. Our last significant rain event was 22.75mm way back on May 27th. Looks like this Friday may finally break the deadlock..........? Bish
  22. We eventually peaked with a max of 24.7°C yesterday afternoon. This marked the end of a long sequence of sixteen successive days whereby the daily max had been at least 25°C or above. Pretty impressive stuff. The only other similar sequences in "recent" times (my numbers go back to 1982) were: 16 days - 15/07/2006 to 30/07/2006 (with many daily maxes well above 30°C. July 2006 really was a incredibly hot month here) 13 days - 24/07/1995 to 05/08/1995 (there was another sequence of 8 days shortly afterwards) 10 days - 03/08/2003 to 12/08/2003 I think I'll always remember the June/July 2018 heatwave for it's dryness, longevity and abundant sunshine rather than it's heat. Bish
  23. I suspect if there are any showers, they will be fairly light and sporadic. Certainly not significant enough to change your plans IMO. Bish
  24. True, although the extra cloud seems to have increased the humidity somewhat as well. Currently 27.1°C here. The previous four days have all produced maxes of 30°C or above here, although today might end that run. Bish
  25. Sweatyman, that is why God invented salads! Bish
