Well apparently even in the glory days of the early to mid 80s winters (1981 excepted) Christmas Day was usually mild and green but if we got a January or February spell that matched any of the best cold spells from those months in the 80s I think most coldies on here myself included would be ok with not having a white Christmas. Though ultimately I would like to have the best of both worlds haha.

I'd take that.

Maybe this is the coldest early December spell since 2010 (and don't get me wrong I've found it a far more satisfying start to winter than most since 2010) but it certainly hasn't been the best early December cold spell since then (in terms of getting a good snow event out of it). 2017 was a much better spell than this one for that and I'm sure plenty of places in the country would agree.

Actually coming down heavy here now and is starting to coat the surfaces that were resistant until now. Loving this December so far.

At 9.2c the only other November in the CET record that shares the same mean CET with 2022 is 1730.

Just had a shower here that seemed a little icy in nature. Probably just very soft hail really rather than sleet but different nonetheless.

Anybody would think with talk on here that pre Christmas cold and snow never happens anymore. Sure it's not that often really but the end of November last year saw a pretty cold period with a reasonable snowfall (best of the extended Winter 2021/22 season it would turn out as the actual Winter soon after turned out mild). Early December 2017 was also really good with late December not been bad either if you lived in the right place (like the other side of Birmingham). Not forgetting late December 2020 which was quite seasonal with snow around. Ok that's all I can really think of post 2010 but nonetheless we're only talking last year and 2 and 5 years ago so hardly forever ago. Although I do accept that the far south of England hasn't been as lucky but then again I'd have thought snow in that region before Christmas has always been pretty rare. I think it's January and February really which are the months all of us have seen a big decrease in snowy weather in recent decades more so than December.

August 2022 is the first August in the CET series to record a monthly mean of 18.7c. It is also now the new 3rd warmest August on record after 1995 and 1997 at 19.1c and 19.0c respectively, knocking both 1947 and 1975 (both tied at 18.6c) down to joint 4th warmest August's on record.

More thunder again today. Third thunderstorm in 4 days now, not bad. This is the most thundery spell since 2020 at least.

Not often we get thunderstorms 2 nights in a row. Incredible really considering how inactive the year has been so far round these parts. In September too which is often regarded as one of the most boring months of the year weather wise. Not this year it isn't though.

I was beginning to lose hope after what until tonight (apart from a single rumble at some point) has been a year devoid of thunder until now. What an epic storm it is as well. Well worth the wait.

Just heard a rumble of thunder here a few minutes ago. Hasn't been followed up by any more though. Still it was something more than the nothing we've had this year until then. Could be more to come perhaps?
