    Honestly I have seen enough of this forum (well the model output anyway) I have been here for 5 years as a lurker during the winter months and the same thing happens every year..... "Don't look beyond 48hrs because that's FI" "Wait look, an easterly at 240hrs" "wow, snow in Luton at 360hrs" "oh sh*t, 580hrs it all breaks down" It's like chasing rainbows. Apparently we are to get snow next week but the only charts they are talking about are 100+hrs away and will not verify as they stand. Why do they do this to themselves?

    I didn't expect much last night but WOW! At least 5 hours of fork lightning and still going here in Cambridgeshire. Power kept going off and then back on, saw some amazing close ground strikes and was actually a bit concerned for my house at times. Couldn't have wished for better!

    Really coming down now in The Paxtons. A good inch on the ground but 2-3" on the snow that has been sat here all week. Looking good although my other half is currently in Cambridge until 15:00 so hopefully main roads will be clear later.

    Ha ha. Thanks. Earlier I assumed that snow was insulating the thermometer and with the sun shining on it, was displaying a false value but still seems high now.

    Could someone near St Neots (Cambs) please post their current temperature. I am wondering whether my weather station thermometer is working properly. I got 3.2C today and is now at 0C. Feels much colder. Thanks.

    Sounds like you got one for Xmas too! Still getting used to mine but I assume the tendancy is gathered from the temp, RH and DP so all it means is conditions are good for snow at this point. Doesn't mean it's going to snow (unfortunately)

    I am worried about that too. Might tell the missus to pull a sickie. Wouldn't want her stuck on the A1 all night. We were about 10 minutes from being stuck on the A3 all night back in 2010. Just about made it home from work. Hundreds didn't though. Could be very disruptive this.

    I think we will be OK for snow Sat/Sun at least. By that point we will know what next week is likely to do. There's no point looking beyond the weekend at the moment IMHO. I am totally fed up with the model thread. I have been lurking on it for the last few years and it is the epitome of contradiction. No matter what the models say, there will be a 50:50 split with half of the posters believing the output and half not. Get a bad chart and again half start slashing their wrists, the other 50% say bin it. Get a good chart and they are all creaming over each other. They all say "ignore everything after T+96" then when a good chart appears at T+300, it's "GAME ON", unless it's a single bad chart, then we may as well give up on winter. Watching that thread is painful at the moment, no matter what the charts are saying. It SHOULD be educational and reflect what the charts are saying with a non-bias opinion. It's not. Anyway, rant over. Here's to the weekend snow.

    Well not sure what the tems are here but it must be sub zero because the hail that came down an hour ago is still here and there is frost already on the lawn. I spy lots of small shower to pass over us tonight so I am confiden we'll get some of the white stuff at some point over night. Now where's me lamppost.....

    Woah, patience is a virtue. The models are steering towards a better outcome at the end of the week but an Easterly is by no means on the cards just yet. Lots to play for though and although we probably won't be looking at the kind of scenario we were all creaming over 48 hrs ago, it's looking like much still to play for.

    Any snow/rain in the far East Anglia tonight? The radars show something falling from the sky. Any reports from Norfolk?

    Looks like the precipitation coming down the East coast this morning is 'bending' down to the far South East so will stick to the coast as it passes East Anglia. More to come for those on the far South East coast this afternoon it seems.

    Extremely light sleet in Great Paxton. Still snow on the ground. Yes I am talking IMBY but I really believe if we can get past midnight without rain then we stand a good chance of a bit of the white stuff at some point between now and rush hour. Temps falling slowly.

    Is that band of precip currently spreading in a South East direction down the country mainly rain or snow? I am currently near Cambridge with snow still on the ground, below freezing with a lot of precip coming. Is there a chance of a massive upgrade to snow this evening?

    All I know is, it had better be a snowfest this year as my little boy wants a bigger snowman than 09/10 and that one was 13'.

    Snow in Waterlooville! Laying too. No idea what temp but standing water is frozen and snow laying on top so assuming sub zero.

    If you look at http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ you can see the band approaching. Have to say that I can't see this moving too far SW as forecast previously. Looks like the whole South coast may get something tonight if it continues this path. Breaking up though so scattered showers by the time it gets to us I think. Anyone know if the PPN on this radar is consistent with what's falling in the Midlands at the moment?
