  2. Ruislip Middlesex 5th Feb 2008 20-50 Torrential downpour, complete with half melted, rice sized hail, for about 10 mins, last night. This was followed by a brilliant flash of blue lightning, and a single bang of thunder. That was the first thunder of 2008
  3. Uxbridge Middlesex Lightning seen & thunder heard from about 21-45 to the south, very infrequent 2-3 times in a 90 min period that I am aware of (may be more).
  4. New York City Storm, Nasty Tornadic storm reported on CNN, Fox News, ABC, etc Trees down and Buildings damaged in Brooklyn NYC. 1 Death & lots of flooding Staten Island
  5. Greenford Middlesex Moderator please put my previous post "11-14" into todays thread. Ta. Further to previous report, 11-40 to about 12-30 went very dark, very heavy rain for duration. Lightning about once a minute, including some flickering (multiple leader) strikes, although no actual strikes seen (heavy rain). Storm area has now moved NW. Reports of manhole covers being lifted on nearby A40 road (thats going to cause a lot of fun!!!!!) Now blue sky and patchy Cumulus at the moment.
  6. Greenford Middlesex Hearing Distant Thunder about 1 every 2 mins, very dull, steady rain NOT that heavy
  7. Greenford Middlesex Weak but active storm (two small areas) became electrical about 15-30 very little rain then. Has been developing rapidly over 45 mins, now very black to the east, distant thunder still being heard now.
  8. Greenford, Middlesex 16-45 to 17-10 electricly active storm. very good views of lightning strikes, some quite close. Seemed to become more active as it moved north eastwards (the new Wembely arch may have been hit by lightning) 17-45 very black to NE direction. 18-25 new development to north west and distant thunder can be heard though not as frequent as before.
  9. Greenford NW London Looking very dark, and turbulent to the west (Uxbridge/ Ruislip area) no rain yet at Greenford.
  10. Greenford NW London, 16-30 Some Heavy cloud build-up, 2-3 miles to the north (Harrow), may/will produce a sharp shower in the vicinity. No electrical activity as yet.
  11. Between 04-45 and 04-55 there were 2 claps of thunder c/w heavy rain (Uxbridge Middlesex)
  12. Greenford Middlesex Now!! 1-2 miles west we have a storm, loud & clear claps of thunder 2-3 minute and lightning seen. very heavy rain not far away/imminent.
  13. Time now 19-20, same location as last post, Greenford Middlesex.More infrequent rumbles of thunder, & lightning seen. Rain is now moderate to heavy. a breeze has now picked up.
  14. Intermitent Thunderstorm near Greenford-Middlesex now. Light rain, looks fairly grey to the south (Staines/Heathrow area???)
  15. Distant crackle of thunder 05-50am, this morning 8/5/06 Uxbridge Middlesex area. The rain area was just moving in. Moderator, please set up a 8th May 2006 thread & move as needed.
  16. At approx 19-50, flash of lightning and shortly after crack of thunder a little to the west of Greenford. NW London. Heavy rain had just occured.
  17. At around 10-05am to 10-15am, 2 flashes of lightning, plus thunder, during heavy burst of rain. Around 30 mins later, clouds were clearing, and impresive glaciated anvils could be seen to the north. (Ealing area)
  18. According to BBC Local travel news website, a tree was blown across the road at Holt Heath near Droitwich Worcs Line Squall or tornadic. Here in NW London it arrived at 15-15 and lasted proper, around 5 mins. It also fetched a huge cloud of leaves off the trees (very spectacular) came off in swirls!!! (sorry, camera 100m away inside) I was outside!!! I placed a bet that it would stop raining by 15-45 & stars would be visible by 18-00 I am now £5-00 better off!!!! I forgot to add about the very noticable temp drop between 15-00 & 16-00 precipitation was heavy rain and rice size hail (graupal)
  19. Just heard some news, Tornado in Birmingham (Small Heath area)?????? roofs torn off, Cars tossed about??????? Interesting picture on the BBC news West Midlands website
  20. The lightning detector at 19-20, is showing lightning occuring around the london area. My observation, around 15 minutes ago is saying that it is TOTALLY CLOUDLESS!!!!!!! in the western slice of london (Not even Fair Weather Cumulus) can be seen.

I was in the course of adding an edit to the above observations last night (having just seen the first storm depart to the west (from outside) lots of intra cloud lightning to the west. Cell 2 approach from east, forced back inside because of the rain) I was sitting inside an office INSIDE a building!!!! busy composing my edit, then, lo and behold!!!!!!! I noticed my feet were getting wet. time approx 20-40. Sitting in a room, with my laptop (plugged into the mains)in a pool of water GREAT FUN!!!! What followed was 2 1/2 hours of bedlam. Calling HSS for wet vacs, salvaging delicate electrics/computers from 3"+ of water. The Sumaray 4 separate cells (start times approx) 20-00 Passed with no flooding 20-40 Flood 21-25 Flood 22-05 Flood 22-40 No more rain 23-20 last lightning seen to the NW at Greenford Station Very little rain in Hayes apparently

  23. New Thread?????? 2 rumbles of thunder in the last few minutes near Harrow time now 14.00
  24. Not a storm report, but there is a strong area (very local) of convective cloud drifting westwards in the harrow/watford area 12-45 today 1 or 2 spots of rain noted. My location Harrow.
