  1. Moderate snowfall here now, very dry icy snow however which is blowing around everywhere and tending to settle in corners as a result. If wet snow follows and sticks on top of it then it is going to cause some serious travel problems as that is like a rug on a polished floor, it also cuts your eyes to shreds when walking outside as I just found out going to the shops.
  2. Nothing falling here yet but it is white with frost, if it has been falling where you are in Cumbria for that long then it can't be far from me now.
  3. There's been some lightning here amongst this heavy rain over the last hour though it's not showing on the detector.
  4. Indeed, lightning seems to be shooting out of the tops of these clouds as its moving closer to me now and the flashes aren't as distinct. Lower level clouds must be scattering the light more.
  5. Just got a text from my brother telling me to go look outside, that stormy area over Blackpool is causing the sky to light up for miles. Very stuffy and humid too, feels like I'm abroad watching a storm out over the sea.
  6. Couple of images from this weekend: Convection. A passing cell on Aug 4 which gave a lot of impressive booming thunder. An old cell on Aug 4. An old cell decaying in the twilight at 21:30 on Aug 5
  7. Fizzled, again. This has happened to every storm this year and it's doing my head in, the local topography should be enhancing thunderstorm activity not killing it.
  8. Bit of rain falling here now, from what I can see I am under an anvil which is occasionally producing very loud booming thunders every few minutes between the distant rumbles I can hear.
  9. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM! Felt that one bounce off my chest though none of these storms around me have actually arrived yet.
  10. Very dark to my south and east now and can hear distant booming thunder.
  11. Has been raining here for the last 30 minutes while the sun was still shining, could hear distant thunder before but not seen anything so far. Had something approach my area at tea time yesterday with constant loud rumbles but it fizzled in to a non event as usual.
  12. Nothing on the detector but I could definitely hear thunder from that shower that blew through just now when I went to the shop.
  13. Gimme gimme gimme a storm after midnight, oh some static help me keep the boredom at bay! Sorry, couldn't resist! Looked good at first but oh well.
  14. I can see that Bradford storm out of my window, classic heat thunderstorm shape.
  15. That area to the north of me seems to have lost most of its electrification just in time to graze my area. Shame..
  16. I think the atmosphere here is about to explode, there is already a large storm to the north of me, a large shower to my south west and there is some pretty serious convection going on. Plus it is very calm and sticky now with hardly any wind.
  17. That area to the north of me seems to be creeping closer and closer, here's hoping!
  18. Had thunder here this morning along with heavy rain as it woke me up, has just been dull and dreary since though.
  19. They will be from the one on the image I posted on the last page, too far away to give our areas any fireworks I am afraid.
  20. Damn, the main electrical area has missed me again. So close..
  21. Sure is warm here in that sunshine though there's some nice convection going on right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see a storm before the day is out.
  22. Because like most genuinely fun and exciting things such as racing and contact sports it involves danger and that danger can lead to injuries and fatalities, which of course makes it a magnet for the millions of joyless crybabies and attention seekers out there who write to TV / radio networks every day bleating on about nothing. "Moan moan moan moan moan moan" That's why in a nutshell.
  23. Its not over yet, these showers will keep going for quite a while longer.
  24. Can still hear distant rumbles from this: It turned really dark at one point and it looked like I was in for a good storm but little came of it in the end with just a few rumbles and big rain drops.
