  1. And up pops a shower over Crumpsall. Parklife could get damp. Something a little smaller to my nw. It remains clear towards Littleborough and the Pennines. All kicking off to the west and sw of here.
  2. In Rochdale town centre and cloud is building just above and to the SW and W of me. The hills to my east are pretty clear apart from what looks like a bit of smoke from behind Blackstone Edge. Temps just nudged higher than at any point yesterday. 28c currently and it really does feel it. Thankful for ac in the pub.
  3. Incredible jump in temperature today. Not too long ago it'd have taken a few days of building heat to get to 30c. Now it's just 24hrs. No complaints here as it is turning into quite a remarkable spell of weather. Clouds filling in the sky here and it looks as though the regions first showers are brewing over Staffs/Derbyshire border.
  4. Apart from perhaps 2 or 3c warmer you don't get much of a better forecast for the first week of summer. It looks as though the low cloud that has plagued some parts will finally lift and clear. Perfect for getting out and about.
  5. Made the trip to Blackpool today to guarantee some sun. Absolutely glorious view from the South Pier earlier.
  6. Yeah, a very different day today than forecast and what we've been used to. This cloud ain't shifting and the temperature is struggling to get past 14c with a chilly breeze. Unusual in this sort of setup on this side of the Pennines, not to clear any cloud away by late morning at worst. Hopefully this isn't going to be what happens the rest of the week. It's half term after all. It looks glorious only 10 miles west.
  7. According to my (un)reliable weather station we've just broken the 22c mark here. It definitely feels that warm as there's very little, if any, wind today. Unfortunately the blob of cloud from the east is encroaching and our blue sky is rapidly disappearing. Regardless, its another lovely afternoon.
  8. So accustomed have we become to bright sunshine and fair weather clouds for much of this month that today's grey 100% cloud cover feels claustrophobic. It's put a lid on the world here and it seems dark. Quite the contrast to strong sun and blue skies. Looking at the satellite pics it seems a fairly localised affair with both west Lancs and Yorks in the clear.
  9. We seem to on the very edge of something developing to our immediate east, both north and south. Clouds building rapidly yet we remain in the sun. Definitely a Pennine driven event. Somewhere looks as though it'll catch a shower in the next hour or 2.
  10. Everyone has there own ideal weather for just generally enjoying life outside the house but for me this weekend has been perfect. Give me 20c, low humidity and the strong May sunshine (that adds about 15c when sat out in it) over those hot, sultry mid summer days. In this country, 25c and over just saps energy. Fantastic to get out for a walk, a few drinks outside the local pub and the back for a bbq without the need to take any sort of break as its too hot. A good May looks like it could at least continue to the BH weekend .
  11. Not a great day. A cloudy day with rain on and off since late morning and maybe reached the dizzy heights of 13c. The highlight has been the showers that have recently passed over. The heaviest rainfall of the year so far at almost 22mm/hr. Only thing missing was a bit of thunder and lightning.
  12. I'm at Rochdale today home to Sutton. The last home football league match for what could be a while. Hopefully we can bounce back quickly. The National League is not an easy league to get out of. We could probably do with a couple of well timed heavy showers to calm down some of our idiots who want to cause a bit of bother.
  13. We seem to have struck lucky here this morning. The clouds have broken over the last hour and there's more blue sky than grey. It actually feels warm and spring like in the sunshine for the first time this year. No doubt we'll be back under the cloud shortly .
  14. Yeah the last of the sun here now as the cloud fills in and the rain slowly makes its way north into the southern part of the region. Looks a tad wet there and with the added wind its probably pretty grim. So far, still a better day than expected here but inevitably it will go downhill this afternoon.
  15. Unlike last Friday, fingers crossed some of us could be on the right side of a wrong forecast today for a change. Low cloud has just cleared here to leave blue skies and the rain to the south doesn't seem, at the moment at least, to be nudging as far north as expected. I'd expected a bit of a washout all day so a pleasant surprise to see the sun stay for a bit longer.
  16. Currently a grim 5.5c and will finish just shy of 11mm of rain if it clears away shortly. A little different to the sun & showers double digit temp forecast. We've all seen worse chicken ups when it comes to forecasts but at this time of year the occasional bit of sunshine makes such a difference. I think that's what makes today worse than what was predicted.
  17. After 2 1/2 poor days there had been a little hope in the forecast that today was to be better. How wrong could they be? Not only are things far further north, but this development of rain over us wasn't even predicted at 9pm last night. Not great for those of us working outdoors trying to plan works .
  18. A perfect day for a wander. Walked a few miles up to the local reservoir and then a couple of pints back through the village. Beautiful day, a little hazy now, but better than expected. Enjoy the rest of the weekend
  19. Today's rain barely warrants an umbrella so I'm not entirely sure on the need for the yellow warning. 4mm here since midnight came quite early, so some surfaces are now quite dry. Maybe some rain still to come this morning, but nothing that'll cause any problems.
  20. Heavy snow for 20 minutes or so but not a chance of it settling. We'd had a good hour of full strong sun beforehand and every surface had been warmed. To have any luck with spring snow the sun is best avoided.
  21. Snow here is now heavy enough to be settling on grass. Temp just above 1c and still sub zero dp.
  22. We have plenty of small flakes of snow falling. Just snow with no rain mixed in as yet. Temp is dropping and is currently 2.8c but dew point -2.6c.
  23. Definitely one of the better winter storms of recent years. Difficult to measure but 10 to 12cm here in the end. Memorable for a 1st 12hrs that didn't put a flake on the ground for more than 5 seconds and a 12hrs that was as blizzard like as I can remember. Beautiful March sun today. Time to look forward to the first 20c of the year. Great to see that, on the whole, the region did pretty well.
  24. That'll definitely help. There's more snow on my roof than on the road.
  25. Blizzard like conditions here with a bitter howling wind and a temp of 0c. After waiting 12 hours the snow finally started to settle at around 8pm and we now have full cover. Proper winter weather in 2nd week of Spring.
