  1. Unashamedly copied from social media but just had to share as it’s so funny this was in response to a cyclone warning in aussie
  2. I *suspect* part of the excitement was the novelty of having a day off school and then when we’re older a day off work or changes in work as people couldn’t make it in I remember waiting for the boss to make a decision that we could all go home - nowadays there not so much excitement following the birth of zoom and homeworking it’s not quite the same lol
  3. I remember in 2010(or thereabouts) when we had a good three or four week spell when the temp during the night fell regularly to minus ten and didn’t rise above minus seven during the day and I remember travelling to York one day when the temp stating in Liverpool was 2 degrees and by the time we reached York had fallen to minus 8 and that was during the day . I think people have short memories especially the media when they are talking about ‘exceptional’ cold
  4. Sorry but having been on the original bbc ‘snow watch’ forum (showing my age) and this whilst I agree there is a southern bias I don’t agree with the comments about nick, Nick Sussex was one of the original posters here (and done watch I think) and to be fair he does try to give a balanced analytical opinion even when it’s not going well for us coldies others like ste prudence will remember nick from the old days and agree with me.
  5. Apparently not! It was some orange taupalin blowing look closely there’s no smoke
  6. The wind has really picked up here - just by the coast in seaforth and the rain is lashing down - is this the ‘tail’ of the storm or a completely seperate system?
  7. There is no evidence for this it seems to have been something that has been ‘concocted’ on Twitter- Covid hasn’t been around for long enough to study such effects - I think people have forgotten that before covid there were lots of horrible lurgy that could floor you for weeks
  8. BBC this morning spoke of a ‘hint of something colder for the xmas period’
  9. There is now a METO weather warning out for most of the region as far as Blackpool for frequent snow showers popping up with oh may cause difficult travelling conditions at short notice
  10. You don’t remember 2010 when temps didn’t go above -7 during the day and dropped to around -14 during the night for over a month here in the northwest
  11. Hrrumo! I cancelled my hair appointment in ormskirk this morning as I was worried about getting back -looks like I could have made it back safely would be near to home by now
  12. I was just saying the other day I really miss the days when the temp barely rose above freezing even with a blue sky and the frost stayed on the ground all day -and the funny ‘snowy sky’ when the sky had a funny colour and you just knew it was ‘full of snow’ -haven’t had that for many years now
  13. METO going for four hours of heavy snow for us from ten am-yes it’s about automated model and probably wrong BUT for it to even show that for here is a rarity so shows the potential for other areas close by that do get it
  14. We have a ‘new’ dusting in Bootle (Merseyside)
  15. Those were the days gone by when it used to be relentless all day.....
  16. I remember this too I was nine and I ran in to my parents room early in the morning saying it’s snowing and they told me to stop lying and go back to sleep still remember being ‘right’ now lol
  17. I nearly had a heart attack reading this till I realised it was LAST year!! I’m screenshotting it just to make us realise how lucky we have been this year!
  18. I was watching the documentary on the big freeze of 1963 and it’s got marked simularities to this year -it’s a long long time since we got snow this early
  19. My thoughts exactly but maybe slightly further west lol
