  1. Another cloudy, dull, dreary, grey & damp start to the day. Not expecting much change as the day progresses here. Taking the dog to a secure paddock for some exercise at Bradford on Avon this morning, would be so much better and energising to have some sun shining down on us whilst stood in a glorified field. Hoping end of next weeks “cool spell” (which actually just looks like a return to more average, typical February conditions) heralds an increase in increasingly warm sunshine after some frosty mornings, & a demise of repeatedly cloudy, dreary crap.
  2. Nice day today. Sunshine a plenty, albeit hazy at times. Tad fresher than the recent, cloudy days though topping out at 7.1c. Would take a dip in temperature for sunnier conditions without hesitation though. Unfortunately, the immediate outlook indicates a quick return to cloudy, dull & at times, damp conditions though. Milder temperatures at a dull, dreary cost. On another note, I see the model thread has seen a period of re-energisation. It appears they’ve found something else, record breaking & biblical, to chase now.
  3. Car is all iced up this morning, didn’t plan for that. Running late now. A chilly 2.5c here. Looks brighter though, fingers crossed I see a different colour than grey up above today.
  4. Doesn’t look like changing, on the whole, for our part of the region. Don’t care about temperature, would just like some sunshine & less grey, monotonous cloudfests.
  5. Testing. Thanks Beka, was just testing out the new quote method & used your post as a guinea pig. Still cool & cloudy here. Is it Spring yet?
  6. Another cloudy & dull morning here. Slightly cooler than of late too, at 6.6c. Stuck in a no man’s period between a finished winter & an early spring, where it’s neither one or the other.
  7. @*Stormforce~beka* That’s exactly my predicament. The weather doesn’t operate by calendar dates. We all get drawn into a false hope of an early spring & early warmth, then when the longer evenings & higher sun starts to recommence, and we can actually make good use of said warm/sunny weather, we get sh*t on again with cold northerly winds just when the majority of us don’t want it. Do we really think we are going to sail straight through Feb, through March & into April without anymore cold weather??
  8. @Summer8906 I did wonder that myself. Although 2m air temperatures over the last couple of days have been milder than average for sure ( 9.2c Friday, 12.4c Saturday & so far 11.6c today), it just hasn’t felt particularly comfortable personally, with a nagging chill still. Thought it was just me so kept quiet about it. Today, with the sun out, has actually been quiet pleasant but yesterday, predominantly cloudy for the day, was definitely fresh. Got to remember though it is late January still & even mild temperatures this time of year (low teens) are still relatively cool feeling, as they would be considered at any other time of the year. Probably me expecting too much too soon. I note the Met Office forecast for the coming week is more cloud, cloud, dull, dull days with sunshine at a premium again. Some drizzly rain around midweek time too.
  9. Brighter morning today, hopefully a bit more sun today rather than endless cloud IMBY. Nippy at 6.1c though. Outlook for the week - mild and rather cloudy. Some brighter spells possible, also some drizzly, patchy rain possible more so later in the week. All in all, whilst mild, rather dull & uneventful too.
  10. Tomorrow looks much sunnier than the cloud fest I had today. Much, much sunnier hopefully. Albeit, temperatures maybe down a degree or two compared to today. On another note, avoid Radstock for a while unless you like lengthy traffic jams!
  11. Oh, those nice clear, crisp sunny days last week are all but a distant memory now. Dog walkies is muddy, wet and windy once again. At least, come the end of the week, things should turn that much drier, if not dull & cloudy for many still.
  12. Driving to work up over the Mendips from Bristol, it appears all fine and clear morning. I think our part of the world escaped the worst or even half worst from last nights storm. Railways are running fine, roads in the main are operating fine. No major reports of anything significant. Now to look forward to a brighter but still breezy day before another deluge swarms us all tomorrow.
  13. Living in a dip within a dip so to say, I’m relatively sheltered IMBY so whilst gusty, I’m not expecting too much wind action here. Mendips to the South, Quantocks to the SW, Welsh hills to the NW, Cotswolds to the North, winds tend not to affect my location too much. It does appear those more exposed to the West/South West weather are in for a rough evening/night though, namely Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Hampshire. No doubt there will be various disruption & damage when we all wake up in the morning and try to commute to work/school etc. I can’t see the railways, for one example, being in a good condition come the morning.
  14. So, who’s looking forward to the end of the cold spell & more typical SW winter conditions reemerging? Best dig the wellies back out the closet I suppose!
  15. I think you maybe a bit optimistic there. We can but hope, but the current forecast looks more like the below; There’s definitely looking likely to be a stormy finish to the weekend, and quite possibly another (albeit not so stormy for us) bout of wind around Tuesday/Wednesday. Mild definetly, but I do expect a rather lot of cloud cover in between any rainfall, at least until towards the end of the week.
  16. Here is the 12z Arpege wind gusts forecast for Sunday night mate, much easier read here;
  17. As above, interesting thing about the 15z UKV is that it brings a spell of 60mph+ gusts of winds to pretty much everyone at some point Sunday night. Firstly Ireland, Wales & the SW; Then Wales, into the Midlands and Northern England; Then into Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland, along with the borders; That’s not to say others escape either, the SE and all of Eastern England will see damaging gusts based on this model too. One saving grace which will help mitigate impacts is that it’s happening overnight at least, when many of us are tucked up in our beds or binge watching Netflix with a box of Jaffa Cakes!
  18. Don’t worry if you hate the sun & calm weather, we all have a very disturbed afternoon & evening to look forward to late Sunday; Thats quite lengthy duration of 50mph+ gusts widely. No doubt certain areas prone to W/SW’rly winds will record higher too. Good luck on your commute to work Monday morning, particularly if that’s by rail or ferry!
