  1. The irony is, any cooler spell of weather from a northerly influence would actually bring clearer skies & sunnier conditions IMBY, with any cooler 850hpa airmass mitigated greatly by a strengthening sun. There are probably many southerners who would happily exchange a more northerly airmass and potentially clearer airmass for what we currently have now, muggy & overcast conditions. I appreciate you northern folk may think differently though.
  2. Currently in Southall, West London and; yep, exactly the same as how I left Somerset a few hours ago. Cloud follows me everywhere. Not a fan of SW’rly winds personally, regardless of whether they’re HP or LP oriented.
  3. Brightening up somewhat now. Drizzle has gone and we have white clouds more than grey clouds. Still generally overcast though.
  4. Gone outside, travelling to work. Drizzle all the way pretty much. When’s this drier spell supposed to start again??
  5. This is why I just couldn’t get excited about these HP ridging charts. Yes, drier at least but for us down here, it has gloom fest written all over it. I’ve gone off the colour grey now!! Need a cut off HP or HP more towards the east of us, with winds east of south rather than west of south. Yipppeeeeee!!!
  6. Whilst it looks drier, I really don’t want more overcast, grey, dull skies. I want sun. Lots of it. We’ve had soooooooo much cloudy, grey, dull crap IMBY, over the last year or so, that the weather needs to do more than just dry up now. Overcast crap is still crap IMO.
  7. Outlook for my area looks more of the same, albeit drier at least. Grey, dull, gloomy, did I say grey? Need HP more towards the East/South East for clearer, sunnier and warmer skies here. The ridge forecast for the reliable outlook will just be drawing up more moist, cloudy air from the SW’rly quadrant. These brief northerlies/NW’erly’s should provide sunnier skies though. We are sheltered down here from winds from that direction & with a strengthening sun, any chill will be void really. Should be quite nice, but brief for those odd days.
  8. I’ve decided to do an amateur forecast for 2024. Here it is below; I will evaluate how successful it is come December.
  9. Twas lovely down on the South Coast this afternoon, Plenty of warm sunshine, hazy at times. Breezy but comfortable enough. Travelling home, heading north, once I hit the Sherbourne area and into Somerset, cloud & drizzle returned.
  10. Currently down on Portland and it’s a cracking day, albeit a tad breezy. Near clear blue skies though & warm. I’m emigrating!!
  11. Beautiful, sunny start to the day here. Alas, a quick glance at the radar soon brings a bump back down to earth. Gloom & drizzle inbound shortly;
  12. I thought this weekend was supposed to be dry, warm & sunny. Swear this was touted as a decent weekend all last week. Yes, it’s definitely been warm but dry & sunny it has not been for my area at least. Looking at the radar, it’s looks like another grey drizzle fest is inbound shortly; It seems like, just as in winter with cold/snowy forecasts, we’ve started of the warm season with drier/sunnier forecasts also getting downgraded nearer the time and end up with perpetual gloom that doesn’t differentiate between calendar seasons. Might as well just forget seasons in this country now, as the weather is just the same regardless of what season we are supposed to be in.
  13. Don’t worry mate, that bit of rain that you’re missing isn’t a million miles away from you now; But yeah, I agree with you. Give me sunshine and average temperatures any day over cloudy, grey, breezy but warm temps. Just want rid of the constant grey skies really, don’t really care about temperatures for now. Alas, the next working week looks more of the same as to what the previous 43976 working weeks have looked like. One has to wonder whether a warming atmosphere & a warming Atlantic are making cloud/rainfall much easier to produce? Maybe summer will produce 35c but cloudy days?
  14. You’ll get a taste of Spring/early summer in the east/south east over the weekend. Spare a thought for those of us in the west where it’s business as usual; At least I can be warm when admiring the grey skies I suppose!
  15. Maybe for you lucky lot in SE England. Here those graphics show cloud with nearby rain on Saturday & cloud with patchy rain on Sunday. I’m struggling to withhold my excitement.
  16. Another bright, sunny & very acceptable start to the day. It’s actually not been an overly bad Easter Weekend IMBY. A lot of cloud about at times, sunshine here & there too, warm and mainly dry (at least during daylight hours). Could’ve been better but could’ve been far worse too. There’s always a bit of bad news though. Can’t help but remind you all of what’s to come at some point this afternoon/evening depending on where you are in the region; make the most of the sunshine currently!! Working week ahead looks a bit meh. Not a washout by any means, rainfall looks sporadic and patchy most of the time. Expect a lot of cloud and dullness around though. Fifty shades of Grey!!
  17. We really are scraping a very empty barrel if that constitutes a decent, early April day.
  18. Impressive convective squall stretching across central parts for the region, west to east. Narrow but intense rainfall projected. Dwindling T&L though as daylight energy fades.
  19. I’d be one of those sat inside still. It’s sunny here today, lovely compared to recent days, but still only a fresh 13.8c currently. Not warm enough for me to sit in a beer garden/park/beach yet. Need to get up towards 20c for me personally, for that. Nevertheless, still feels lovely in the sun, nippy when clouds pass over though. Shame the outlook is more of what we’ve recently had, rather than what we have today.
  20. Kids have broken up for Easter here so no school run is one saving grace. Sounds like Wiltshire are breaking up at the very last minute then.
  21. More storms heading up into Dorset. More rain for pretty much everyone. Railway lines will be under water again. Yay!!!!
  22. Some amazing cloud to ground fork lightning over Shepton Mallet. Not frequent, but very sharp when it does happen. Not much rain/hail though.
