Around 5:30pm yesterday we had an almighty shower come through. Quite a bit of flash flooding in the local area because the ground was so dry. Now, you wouldn't even know it rained.. Was nice to see and very tropical feeling when it did rain massive convective drops.. the sort of rain that makes you go WOW if you get what I mean!

@Blessed Weather yes it would seem upper air temps have been underestimated or that the models to some degree couldn't work out the actual source of the flow. Come the weekend we still have have an easterly flow but with that low pressure just to our south the source of winds is not from anywhere cold but infact rather warm. That would reflect why day time temps even under cloud in my location are set to be 17-19c and 10c at night. Around or actually above average of an easterly!!

Surprised over the last few days how out the Met office have been with temp and cloud cover.. Yesterday was gorgeous and 3c above forecasted temps and that looks similar today albiet the clear skies were forecast I think this is the difference in having an easterly in late April as opposed to early March. While the north sea is at its coldest part of the year, the sun is gaining serious strength. We are only 8 weeks away from the longest day of the year (crazy right?!) With any clear skies it will stay relatively nice. Even the breeze here, it feels very pleasent and a welcome breeze to, blow away all that haze and pollution. My only issue now is lack of rainfall... and that doesnt look like it will change much over the next few weeks... apart from the odd shower in the next 48hrs. The air source from the East is not overly cold either. Infact some models are toying with some quite mild air drifting up from the south around the top of the low pressure to our south. A warm easterly ... now there is a new weather phenomenon.

Looks fairly pleasant in any sun if you manage to get it.. Could be quite cloudy under any direct Easterly in the next few days. Although that said currently an Easterly here and its 18c and sunny. Very spring like and above average. The main concern now is rainfall. It is been very very dry and this looks to continue for the foreseeable unless we can get some showers over the next few days but they don't really provide any meaningful rain!

Frosty start but that ever increasing sun strength has pretty much melted it all. Everything is bone dry... a smidge of rain overnight tonight but looks like another dry week. Anyone wishing the cold weather to continue needs a serious think. Dry and cold this time of year is probably the worst combination for our farmers. Given that this year we are certainly going to face food shortages we need April showers and warm 10c days... If you are worried about prices of food now give it a few months when we should have our first UK grown produce coming through and see the prices! We import and grow a lot of plants (its our business) and the outdoor growers in mainland Europe are all saying the same thing thing its even colder there at the minute!

This time of year the sun is gaining strength day by day so it gives some heat to the atmosphere and at the surface to create some lift and produce showers. Not much height to them hence why they are short lived and not very very intense like a summer storm but enough to produce hail graupel etc. In winter we need a near dead easterly breeze with -10 or more uppers over a warmer north sea to produce lift and convective showers. A very rare beast. The bigger the surface sea temp is to the negative uppers the bigger and beefier the showers are in winter. But sub -10 uppers are becoming harder and harder to land here let alone on an easterly Thats why snow this time of year you could have a negative temperature even in early day light hours but the sun is strong enough to melt snow. Beautiful morning! Still waiting on the snow.. Oh wait Not overly cold for the time of year really.. In fact I looked back and it seems that the second week of March to the second week of April in the last 5 years have had colder temperatures at some point than most of the winter months! I am interested to see if we can get some soft hail showers over the next few days before a warm up arrives and back to average from Sunday. Sunday actually looks like a stunning day currently!

To be fair, it did look like the system that is bringing snow to France was much further west at the weekend etc.. The hype in MOD thread was way to much. You need something incredible to have settling snow in this part of the world now in the depths depths winter let alone 4 weeks into spring! That said.. we have settling snow in April last year.. bit of waste when it's gone by 10-11am but hey! Snow is snow
