  1. Well another horrible day in Pembrokeshire.

Its throwing it down, there is a wall of airborne water being fired at me by 40-50mph winds. It did get close to 60mph earlier but it has slackened off a bit now, just got relentless rain.

I do hate these SE winds it blows the rain through all my windows and doors. Everything round here is set up for SW'lys.

Nowhere near as bad as the other day though. I passed through St Davids earlier and something must have blown off the roof of the indian takeaway as the Fire Brigade were in attendance. Power nearly went off just now, monitor turned off but the computer managed to stay booted up. Its been on and off a few time in the last 48 hours so obviously still some niggling issues from Wednesday.

Hope everyone is safe well and dry

  2. I believe the worst have it has passed from my area now. I do say that with some trepidation, not wanting to shoot myself in the foot. Wind speed have been gradually dropping from about 14.30. The really serious stuff looks to be to the north of me now.

For a period between 13.30 and 14.30 it was gusting consistently 70-75mph with a peak gust of 79mph and a peak in mean wind speed of 56mph. Current conditions see it gusting around 55-60mph although as i write this a gust of 64mph occurred but there is nowhere near the ferocity to the wind as there was earlier.

    Stay safe people

  3. Its pretty horrible here now.

Been gusting 65-75mph for the last hour with the odd one in the high 70's. The last 5/10 min the intensity seems to have picked up though, top speeds are no greater, but just seem to be more consistently in the 70's.

I live in a static caravan and it is behaving like a boat at sea, don't worry though shes well tied down.

Nothing to major to report, the farm shed down the road has lost the other half of its roof, the first half going in the easterlies about 10 days ago. A local road is shut due to the road being blocked by a garage roof.

  4. Wind here gusting 60-64 mph from s/ssw. Been pretty consistent for the last hour or so. Main band of rain seems to have passed now with showers more the order of things.

I ll be very surprised if my shed roof makes it through today, how its lasted this long is a mystery to me.

I plan to make it through the day by chain smoking and drinking tea and i do have a lovely single malt which may get cracked open if it all gets too much, purely for medicinal purposes of course.

  5. Good day all

Current met forecast for me has it gusting to 83mph at its worst tomorrow. This is the worst forecast for wind i have seen in the last 4 yrs (that i can remember). This is the most excited (well scared) about a storm i've been in ages. Whilst i do like a a good gale, i do still want to have a home !.

I predict a national shortage of ridge tiles approaching.

  6. Current conditions here are wind 35-47 mph with max gust here of 53 mph, generally from the south with a touch of west in it. Temp is 12 C and pressure is 1001.9 falling at 1 hpa/hour.

Generally very blustery with occasional showers, well more like the odd splat of rain. Its been getting steadily worse since early evening yesterday.

I got up at 5am for this, hope its worth it !.

  7. Surprising regional variation here in East Carmarthenshire with you in Ceredigion - we had 233mm in June, but almost as much in August - 230mm. Maybe due to more of a southerly wind component in August and more westerly in June?

To add another set of readings from the area, I recorded 123mm in June, 68mm in July and 154mm in August.

Certainly had a lot of wet days during the summer, excluding August most of the really heavy rainfall events were to my North and East.

  8. I feel like the last 6 months have been lacking in sun. Summer and autumn were both pretty grey and dull, thats just here though. It has a real habit of being like that here. No real extremes though, not been that warm nor that cool either.

The last week has been pretty sunny with some of the nicest days in ages, days where it is a real pleasure to be outside. Today is sunny but with a dose of wind to take the edge of the warmth, but lovely all the same.

  9. I love bird watching, i am in no way a twitcher though. As was covered in an earlier post thats a bit more obsessive with a penchant for box ticking. I am lucky to live in a fantastic area for birds, but i actually get a relativly small variety of birds on the garden feeders, as compared to some of the lists on here. I live on a farm and I am surrounded by common and moor land so there are plenty of natural / alternative food sources for the birds, most of which fit in to the 'liittle brown jobs' category. Of which my identification skills are limited. The catttle sheds are regularly full of starlings and sparrows feeding on the animal feed, the noise they make can be deafening. Plenty of magpies around, i find them very annoying, they have a nest next to my caravan. Through the summer they regularly wake me up around 5am tap dancing all over the roof. I get grumpy when woken early too often and it can invariably lead to war.

The Raptors are what really shines here. This is not specific to my garden, but certainly seen from home. I have had a pair of Hen harriers regularly feeding in the fields in front of the van. I see Marsh harriers in the area 5 /6 times a year, Perigrines 2 / 3 times a year, the Buzzards are like vermin and the sparrowhawk makes a regular appearance at the bird feeders when the farm cat aint hanging out there. Last summer i even saw a grouop of 10 Red Kites, which is most unusual here.

There are plenty of Owls, but i rarely see them, i just know other bird watchers who tell me so. You certainly hear the twit twit twit......twooooooo. Damn thats loud if your near them.

I do try to keep increasing the number of birds i can identify, Reed Bunting is my most recent. But so many look so similar.

  10. Weather here just taken a turn for the worse. It has been windy today (20-35mph) but has just gotten windier, squally showers blowing in with gusts close to 50mph. Pressure has dropped about 2.5hpa in the last hour. Temp is relativly stable at 8.7C.

I have been on a stable roof this morning repairing damage from monday night. Thankfully the wind held off long enough to complete the job.

  11. Really glad there are some interesting features still to play out of this one. Had a really good time last night, windy enough to be fun but nothing to excessive.

Should be seeing a bit of an increase in wind this afternoon and evening. Currently its partly cloudy with 20-40mph westerlies and the temp is 7.2c.

Do have one gripe, i was hoping all that rain would wash away the mud outside, no, its still like the somme.
