  1. Very surprised that Met Eireann hasn't come on board sooner. Expect them to jump on the wagon tomorrow and also expect the Met Office to upgrade to Amber. Fully agree with you about last weeks snow! Think there was more snow than they anticipated for Donegal/Derry.
  2. Now thats a warning! Been a while since i seen any warnings like this! Really hope we all do well out of this! Our wee Ireland thread will be buzzing from Wednesday evening on!
  3. Donegal Weather Channel....... ORANGE WARNING IN PLACE FOR - ULSTER : Donegal, Fermanagh, Derry, Tyrone, Antrim, Cavan, - Monaghan ,Armagh & Down. - CONNACHT : Sligo, Letrim, Mayo, Galway & Roscommon. - LEINSTER : Longford, Westmeath & Offaly. A Orange weather warning is in place for Heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions. The north, west and midlands can expect accumulations of snow between 10cm and 20cm with up to 30cm on high ground. With this cold front there will also be strong winds creating blizzard conditions along with big snowdrifts, gusts of 50km/hr to 90km/hr can be expected. Road networks and other travel networks look like the will be effected by these weather conditions causing dangerous driving conditions. the power grid may also be effected due to build up of snow on some wires along with drifting. It is important that you stay tuned to the weather forecast over the next few hours as there may be further changes to this warning.
  4. Derry 17cms+. Over estimate maybe but why not be optimistic! Lol
  5. I just posted it above...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/30995308
  6. Bomber if its the online automated forecast then take no heed. It will change.
  7. No problem bud. Should build the confidence of some members. Also i fully expect an orange warning to be issued tomorrow. Its not to often you hear in a forecast 'SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND BARING THE BRUNT OF THE SNOW'. Excellent stuff!
  8. I had to Google it! Lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bifurcation
  9. That really is a thing of beauty! Classic winter weather on the way so enjoy! Maybe a chance of a polar low popping up over the weekend from that northerly! Link for anyone that hasn't seen it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/30995308
  10. This is the best description of the upcoming cold that I've seen yet. Good stuff. http://www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk/winter-weather-advisory-snow-drifting-snow-ice-localised-travel-disruption/
  11. Gaz I wouldn't read into it buddy or maybe Barra Best knows some wee don't. Lol
  12. I'll not even tell you what I think of Barra Best! Lol
  13. Starting to feel that something special is on the horizon as we head in to February. Ridging in the Atlantic seems to be getting better with each run. Of course this can just as easily flatten but we won't know until the shortwave issue is resolved. Very interesting times ahead.
  14. Its definitely quiet but come Wednesday it will be a different storey. Whoes doing an all nighter with me this time? Lol. Must head in to the model thread now and catch up on things. *Edit*........IT'S ACTUALLY A PLEASURE READING THE MODEL THREAD THIS EVENING! Lol
  15. Just depends how far inland showers push. As i mentioned earlier features can form out of nowhere in these setups so anywhere could see snow. I would say best bet for seeing plenty of snow would be NW down into Mid Ulster.
  16. My reading of things at the minute is that Wednesday Thursday are the snowy days, thereafter into the start of February high pressure taking control therefore anywhere with lying snow could well have it lying for quite some time? Maybe am wrong about the high pressure?
  17. Just seen that Sperrin. That's just an estimate to. Probably end up being more than that.
  18. Yeah it definitely is! I see the BBC etc are still reluctant on detail with regards to precip amounts. This is probably due to embedded troughs in the flow popping up at shortice. This will prob end up a now casting event and some areas will see alot more than other especially where showers merge!
  19. That model thread is real depressing! Lol. We are looking at a week long NW/N Yet some people are still looking the holy grail! I can wait for this to hit Wednesday!
  20. Any links to the countryfile forecast? Wouldn't mind a nosey. If not I'll have a look later when I get on the PC.
  21. They won't show to much precip 3 days out. Would expect that to change come tomorrow night in to Tuesday morning. Looks like a couple of fronts will move down from the NW which could turn in to a snow fest. Heres hoping anyway.
  22. Storm probably a good idea to dismiss that chart saying it is a week and a half away. Get this first blast midweek out of the way then see how we stand then. Save that chart then see how it changes over the next week. I for one would be happy with a week long cold spell. Even this upcoming cold spell popped up out of nowhere so maybe it will break down and maybe it won't. We shall see.
  23. ECM sticking to its guns and almost identical to this morning. I would say this is now pretty much nailed on for Wednesday/Thursday but beyond that is still a work in progress.
  24. Because they change all the time Bob. They have me as sleet as well but if you check the Netweather week ahead for my area they have snow. These things aren't reliable. Precip type and amounts can't really be forecast until 24/48 hours out and even at that can be wrong. Take for example my last snow fall was forecasted at 3-8cms but i had a foot of lying snow. Wouldn't worry about the finer details just yet.
