  1. My fly back doesn't leave until 10.40pm so guess I'll be relaxing in the Qantas Club for a while before take off or hit the mall near the Best Western in Irving
  2. Well looks like we could be in for a significant weather event here over the next few days. This rainfall forecast is looking ominous with a cyclone up in the gulf and the low of the Qld coast. http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/rainfall/pme.jsp?ref=ftr
  3. Hi Jon, I'm on Tour 3 and will be arriving on 27 May to get over the jetlag as the flight from Sydney is a few hours longer than those from the UK (and crossing the dateline doesn't help either - makes it a bit like groundhog day for me ). Really looking forward to meeting everyone.
  4. LOL I understand Arron, but thankfully the Olympus OMD range are actually quite reasonably sized and weighted. Not the big chunky lenses that Canon/Nikon produce at that focal length. I've got a little Sony point & shoot and my Samsung phone takes a decent shot as well, but the OMD has the benefit of being weather sealed and I can also control it from my phone via wifi which will be handy for long exposure shots (have a remote trigger as well). I'll probably decide the night before I fly how much kit I'll take this time.
  5. I'm arriving on 27 May and will be staying in downtown Dallas to do some sightseeing before the tour. Am now thinking that I'll book the 29th at the Best Western so can maybe meet up with other travellers the night before. Arron you've now got me thinking that I won't sell my old camera body just yet but bring it as well and leave my 75-300mm lens on it just in case.
  6. I'm with Nick L, I'm getting excited as well. May actually get to see some good storm action down here this weekend as I'm heading up to northern NSW to go camping for the Australia Day long weekend and the weather in the region has been a bit ferocious this week, with lots of storms and hail about. Just hope my tent doesn't float away in a flash flood though, that wouldn't be good
  7. Well one of my new toys for the Tour 3 has arrived, a new camera as well. Have upgraded to an Olympus OMD E-M1 from the E-M5. Now just have to order my lightning trigger
  8. Yeah my flights are booked. Arriving on 27 May for Tour 3 departure on 30 May. Excitement plus!!!!
  9. G'day everyone, I'm on Tour 3 this time, after doing Tour 4 in 2013. Will be travelling from Sydney again, so will be arriving in Dallas on 27 May, 3 days early to get over the 16.5hr flight and crossing the date line (will be having a bit of a groundhog day on the 27th I think). Looking forward to chasing in a different area next year, although who knows, we may be back up around Nebraska and the lovely I80 again if mother nature decides its to be.
  10. Thanks Paul, it's just the 16 hr flight from Sydney that's the killer, will definitely be arriving a few days early.
  11. Paul, can the payment plan come of a credit card?
  12. The rate they are going, the cars will need to be put in for a mid-chase service
  13. Fingers crossed Wyoming will be kind again this year. Bet you didn't think you'd end up that far north again so early in the tour season
  14. Enjoy the festivities and have a sip of beer and a spoonful of curry for me!
  15. Hi here's a link to a story that appeared on our morning news show, interviewing an Aussie storm chaser who got caught out. http://video.au.msn.com/?preview=true&mkt=en-au&vid=6e1a29d8-55f6-4d21-8cd8-ca2ae133d7c5&from=sharepermalink&src=v5:share:sharepermalink:
  16. Have just heard on KFOR.com that there has been a double fatality confirmed on the I40 with a mother and child being killed. Stay safe guys
  17. But its meant to be lovely in Canada at this time of year!!! Well if I don't get a tornado on the plains, can I hope for a hurricane on my post-chase cruise...
  18. This is really getting me excited - 3 weeks till Tour 5 kicks off!
  19. I'm bringing my Macbook Air with me and will also have a 1TB portable hard drive that I can offload onto as well as a couple of reasonable capacity memory cards for the camera. We have different power cord ends to both the US and UK but I already have the US adaptor for my Mac so that should be ok and am also planning on picking up a US cord for my camera battery charger when I get to Seattle prior to arriving in Denver for Tour 5.
