  1. Yet another wet spell, moderate to heavy rain at the coast this morning after a better few days. Problem is all the problem wet spots are filling again.
  2. Wold Topper The Wolds will dry out fairly quickly, but our last trip towards Hull on the train last Saturday there is still a huge amount of standing water on the flat lands between Driffield and Beverley, and I suspect their situation is worse still.
  3. A slight improvement today. Got rid of the nagging damp easterly, but overall much windier today and still rain about Lunchtime brought force 5-7 SW winds with 13c and some brightness for the first half turning to very light rain in the last 10 minutes of my hour out. Looking at the MetO charts low pressure is never far away so more rain on the cards.
  4. Aother thoroughly miserable day here after some early brightness. Lunchtime ride brought 7C, mist/fog, winds force 3-4 SE and drizzle with 100% cloud. Felt colder than the 7C would indicate This was the view just before Midday about 2 miles from home
  5. Today has been another cold grey day with occasional drizzle. At least the winds have been light. Lunchtime ride brought 6C, winds force 2-3 N, and 100% cloud, a featureless grey sky, with intermittent fine drizzle.
  6. Love Snow Its gone downhill even further this morning, on the coast woke up to moderate to heavy rain with a lazy (blows through you instead of going round you) easterly wind. We really don't need anymore rain at the moment
  7. Another grey day at east coast. Winds have picked up a notch, and are still firmly E Lunchtime brought Force 4-5 E with 7c and 100% grey featureless cloud, at least theres been no rain.
  8. The last few days have been fairly quiet weather-wise, a little rain and drizzle, but not enough to cause a problem. The winds have been calmer, and are firmly in the east today. Bearing in mind wind is the cyclists enemy its been much more pleasant. The worst field puddles are disappearing, but the ground is still very wet. Today brought 6c with force 3-4 E winds. All over grey cloud today, with some very fine drizzle, and quite misty. Grindale Mere at lunchtime
  9. I had just started work, having left school at 16, and was immediately plunged into the 3 day week, power cuts and a lot of industrial disputes. Overall not a good period nationally. Personally not a time I look back on positively either. Weather wise it was the last of the cool summer years which were part of my growing up. Looking back at weather records for this year the absolute maximum was 28c recorded in June in Southampton. Years which failed to reach 30c happened during this period. Nowadays I suspect that there is no set up where we wouldn't reach 30c anywhere. Also remember it as being a wet year, plenty of wet walks to and from the station or bus for work, but that and various rail strikes did mean I put a lot of effort into passing my driving test. So, looking back definitely no rose coloured spectacles, either at a personal, national or weather level.
  10. Down hill again at the start of the week after a reasonable weekend. Lunchtime brought Force 4-6 N winds driving a peppering of showers on shore. Temps at 8c but drops in the showers. Had a heavy shower of ice pellets whilst out at lunchtime. Not like graupel which is white and slightly soft, these were clear and hard. Very unpleasant whilst riding, had to shelter while it passed over.
  11. A much better day today, after early frost it's been fine and sunny with light winds. Managed to cut up and half fill the 2nd wood shed with the pickings from the last couple of months. This will be winter 24-25 warmth.
  12. I was around in 1960, but too young to remember it. First major weather memory is the smog and daytime darkness in Dec 1962.
  13. Another miserable wet day. Surface water in evidence yet again. Many fields have standing water again Good points, wind had dropped in time for lunchtime bike ride, and there was some watery sun around lunchtime. However the rain was never far away. Winds Force 2-4 WSW, temp 7C. A gloomy threatening sky across the Wolds looking W at lunchtime
  14. Another dreary grey wet windy day. Plenty of rain this morning, all the usual soggy spots filling with water again. Lunchtime ride was delayed as the rain was due to stop after lunch, when I went out at around 2pm it had stopped, but winds were Force 6-7 SSW, and still 10c although felt colder with the wind. All over grey with a bit of drizzle. This has to have been one of the most miserable winters for years, hardly any snow, no proper cold weather, and every week seems to have brought wind and rain.
  15. Lunnchtime today brought more wind than I would have liked, force 4-6, maybe a bit more SW, but mainly sunny. Still mild at 11c. Overall not too bad. Looks to be going downhill again tomorrow
  16. Been down to Peterborough on the train today, and coming home the degree of waterlogging in the fields gets worse as you travel home. From Hull up towards home every field has standing water.
  17. Lunchtime brought 11c, and S force 3-4 winds. Cloudy with just the odd bit of brightness Very mild, but not a nice mild, damp, grey and soggy. Looks like there has been quite a lot of rain overnight again. Barring a sting in the tail another mild winter with only 2 days snow, and places out on Holderness and the Hull area have not had any snow as far as I can see.
  18. Lunchtime today brought lighter winds SSW force 3-4, 7c and cloudy. Forecast rain still hasn't made it to our bit of the country. Local surface water flooding has now gone, but probably only until the next deluge
  19. A much better day today A frost on the car this morning at 6.30am according to Mrs Mike57, which was unexpected Lunchtime ride brought 8C, sunny and winds WSW Force 4-6, stonger than I would like, but a lot better than the last few weeks. Overall quite pleasant There are still some surface water issues around the area but nothing like yesterday.
  20. Flooding again in Buckton, and the pond has doubled in size. @A Face like Thunder I will be at the NYMR Friday, hoping for better weather
  21. A165 is closed due to flooding around Bessingby, near Bridlington, there were still large pools of water yesterday morning when we returned from Beverley and that was 24 hours after the last rain. I would imagine the River Derwent will be a concern as well.
  22. Still raining hard when I went out to grab the ash bucket at 6am. Given that some of the surface water flooding from Thursday still hadn't drained away yesterday all the usual trouble spots will be bad this morning.
  23. Finally stopped raining here, issues with surface water flooding locally, not sure what rainfall totals are for this area, but it rained for 24 hours, and even if its only 1-2mm an hour that still quite a big total. Problem is MetO figures reset at 9pm, and so 24hr total will be split over 2 days.
  24. We had this one as well, not weather related as far as I can see. Decided to give it 30 mins, had given up and was putting overalls on to go and get generator out connected and started as I work from home when it came back on. Very wet here with just the slightest hint of sleet this afternoon. In all a dull wet miserable day.
