Gray-Wolf A decent day at the coast as well. Lunchtime brought 10c, with sunshine and a force 2-4 E wind. Some very high cloud, but the main thing is NO RAIN, after yesterdays grey damp drizzle. The farmers on the Wolds seem to be getting back on to the land again, several tractors out doing field work, although I suspect the lower lying areas are still waterlogged.

The problem here isn't just rain, it's also wind as we are very exposed, you end up having to pick it all up and wash it again unless you physically stitch it to the line, and that assumes you can even find it once its blown off.

Two nice days, and then today... Woke up to rain, which had stopped by lunchtime, to be replaced by low cloud/fog. Bike ride brought NW winds force 2-3 which was aborted due to the rain starting again just after the 4 mile mark, headed back home, 10c and low cloud. Still foggy outside and of course everywhere is sodden again.

A slight improvement today. Got rid of the nagging damp easterly, but overall much windier today and still rain about Lunchtime brought force 5-7 SW winds with 13c and some brightness for the first half turning to very light rain in the last 10 minutes of my hour out. Looking at the MetO charts low pressure is never far away so more rain on the cards.

The last few days have been fairly quiet weather-wise, a little rain and drizzle, but not enough to cause a problem. The winds have been calmer, and are firmly in the east today. Bearing in mind wind is the cyclists enemy its been much more pleasant. The worst field puddles are disappearing, but the ground is still very wet. Today brought 6c with force 3-4 E winds. All over grey cloud today, with some very fine drizzle, and quite misty. Grindale Mere at lunchtime

I had just started work, having left school at 16, and was immediately plunged into the 3 day week, power cuts and a lot of industrial disputes. Overall not a good period nationally. Personally not a time I look back on positively either. Weather wise it was the last of the cool summer years which were part of my growing up. Looking back at weather records for this year the absolute maximum was 28c recorded in June in Southampton. Years which failed to reach 30c happened during this period. Nowadays I suspect that there is no set up where we wouldn't reach 30c anywhere. Also remember it as being a wet year, plenty of wet walks to and from the station or bus for work, but that and various rail strikes did mean I put a lot of effort into passing my driving test. So, looking back definitely no rose coloured spectacles, either at a personal, national or weather level.

Down hill again at the start of the week after a reasonable weekend. Lunchtime brought Force 4-6 N winds driving a peppering of showers on shore. Temps at 8c but drops in the showers. Had a heavy shower of ice pellets whilst out at lunchtime. Not like graupel which is white and slightly soft, these were clear and hard. Very unpleasant whilst riding, had to shelter while it passed over.

I was around in 1960, but too young to remember it. First major weather memory is the smog and daytime darkness in Dec 1962.

Another miserable wet day. Surface water in evidence yet again. Many fields have standing water again Good points, wind had dropped in time for lunchtime bike ride, and there was some watery sun around lunchtime. However the rain was never far away. Winds Force 2-4 WSW, temp 7C. A gloomy threatening sky across the Wolds looking W at lunchtime

Another dreary grey wet windy day. Plenty of rain this morning, all the usual soggy spots filling with water again. Lunchtime ride was delayed as the rain was due to stop after lunch, when I went out at around 2pm it had stopped, but winds were Force 6-7 SSW, and still 10c although felt colder with the wind. All over grey with a bit of drizzle. This has to have been one of the most miserable winters for years, hardly any snow, no proper cold weather, and every week seems to have brought wind and rain.

Lunchtime brought 11c, and S force 3-4 winds. Cloudy with just the odd bit of brightness Very mild, but not a nice mild, damp, grey and soggy. Looks like there has been quite a lot of rain overnight again. Barring a sting in the tail another mild winter with only 2 days snow, and places out on Holderness and the Hull area have not had any snow as far as I can see.
