  1. A better today today, wind is not as strong, but still a nagging NW force 4-6, maybe a bit more on the exposed bits. Cold at 8c. Managed to complete bike ride, had a very light shower of what looked like graupel while out (white hard cold bits...). Some breaks in the clouds with sunny intervals.
  2. A Face like Thunder 'Back edge', , Not how I would describe it, Wetter than yesterday, wind is stronger here than during yesterdays yellow warning, and cold. Wood burner is now in full winter mode, and log box has been refilled. Lunchtime bike ride was severely curtailed, cycling outside the shelter of the village was impossible due to the wind. 7c and NNW force 6-8 wind with stronger gusts during the morning around 9am.
  3. Well another thoroughly unpleasant morning. Gale force winds, yet more rain that we dont need, and 7c. Stove has been relit. Yesterdays bike ride was curtailed to 4 miles because of the wind, climbing up out of the village it was too wild to ride safely. Looks like the same today.
  4. MetO yellow warning for wind today just been issued, we are right at the northern edge of it, however the forecasts both here and the MetO one give the strongests wind tomorrow. Quite a disparity in forecast max gusts tomorrow as well, MetO 44mph, here 64mph
  5. Wold Topper Yes same job for me, wind helped to distribute the saw dust everywhere but got quite a bit done. Just have about 25 pallets to saw up now for lighting wood. Edit: just seen Tuesdays forecast, 60mph gusts, not good. Yellow warning???
  6. Better start this morning after yesterday's rain, started to cut firewood yesterday and got rained off at about 1.30pm.
  7. Lunchtime bike ride was dry, but wind was a problem, force 5-7 SW made for a very unpleasant head wind up on to the Wolds which reduced my distance as I was running out of time. Temps were 11C and cloudy skies. Dryness hasn't lasted into the sfternoon however, yet more unwelcome rain, although it has been light so far
  8. Well more rain today, after a fine morning I could see the rain moving in as I was at the furthest point of my daily ride, and got wet on the return leg. Winds were WSW backing WNW force 4-5, temps at 11C, but felt colder in the rain. Looks like quite a bit more rain to come. Autumn, Winter and Spring 2023-24 have to have been one of the worst in my memory which is pretty long, unrelenting rain, wind, and mildness. No proper cold, no fine frosty days.
  9. Well nearly 20C here with a force 8-9 SSW gale, given the wind strength surprised the yellow warning wasn't extended. Thank goodness its not July/August, with the same set up would be very unpleasant.
  10. Turned very mild but humid at the coast this afternoon, 16c. Some sunshine, but a lot of rain we didn't need overnight. Fields south of Brid via Driffield towards Beverley are still waterlogged with plenty of standing water, it's been like it for months now.
  11. Dry today, but a cold N wind and grey skies. Lunchtime brought 7C, wind N force 3-4 and 100% cloud. More rain forecast over the weekend which we could do without.
  12. Another horrible morning, foggy and wet Went for a later bike ride after the rain finally stopped. Wind force 3-4 SE, 11C and some gaps appearing in the clouds. Didnt get wet from above but another wet spell has added to the general level of water and mud on the roads, arrived home in a filthy state and had to change.
  13. Not to bad today, light winds at lunchtime, force 2-3 W, 11C and mainly sunny. At least the ratio of better days to wet days seems to be improving, but any persistent rain still runs off as the ground hasnt dried out. Some signs of showers, but nothing here
  14. A nice day yesterday, sunny and light winds. I was able to cut some fire wood and cut up some 8x4 sheets of plywood for a woodwork project, which needed a fine calm.day. Awoke this morning to a frozen car windscreen which was unexpected car temp showing 2-3C.
  15. After some early rain a fairly decent day. More wind at lunchtime, never good for cycling, winds force 4-6 S. 12c and plenty of sunshine with well broken cloud.
  16. Gray-Wolf A decent day at the coast as well. Lunchtime brought 10c, with sunshine and a force 2-4 E wind. Some very high cloud, but the main thing is NO RAIN, after yesterdays grey damp drizzle. The farmers on the Wolds seem to be getting back on to the land again, several tractors out doing field work, although I suspect the lower lying areas are still waterlogged.
  17. The problem here isn't just rain, it's also wind as we are very exposed, you end up having to pick it all up and wash it again unless you physically stitch it to the line, and that assumes you can even find it once its blown off.
  18. Another poor day today. Light rain at lunchtime turned heavier whilst out, did 8 miles and got wet. 10c with a force 4-6 SW wind and 100% cloud Looks a little brighter now. Mark Bayley Just think, mud mud and more mud...
  19. Two nice days, and then today... Woke up to rain, which had stopped by lunchtime, to be replaced by low cloud/fog. Bike ride brought NW winds force 2-3 which was aborted due to the rain starting again just after the 4 mile mark, headed back home, 10c and low cloud. Still foggy outside and of course everywhere is sodden again.
  20. A much better day today. Lunchtime brought force 3-4 SSW winds, 13C and long sunny spells. First day of the year cycling without a top coat.
