  1. It was on the west side of Portreath beach where the cliffs are.
  2. In the case of Canada and Australia I suspect it may be more to do with Harper and Abbott supporting Tar Sands, oil pipelines and the Australian coal industry. China and India are course very dependent on coal although the latter very nearly ran out recently causing a complete blackout in some areas. Conditions in the coal mines in those countries are probably worse than 19th century Britain, Green taxes are a piddling amount to the money pored into the fossil industry and also not forgetting we are even importing coal from Russia. Puts a new meaning on "coals to Newcastle".
  3. The anomalies tonight still with the familiar pattern with perhaps weakening of HP in North America suggesting a more zonal pattern, albeit weak, The jet still meridional and north of the UK On the surface the HP is mainly east to south east leading to some high temps, particularly with GEM and ECM. This is of course conditional on the actual positioning of the HP.

  6. Assessment of the first consensus prediction on climate change http://www.nature.com/nclimate/journal/v3/n4/full/nclimate1763.html A synopsis http://theconversation.com/20-years-on-climate-change-projections-have-come-true-11245 PS. I get very tired of skeptics throwing out personal challenges. You might for a change, devote some of your energies in challenging the scientific evidence with specific scientific arguments instead of the snide rhetoric. (complete misuse of the word)
  7. An excellent blog but rather makes our ( well mine anyway, musn't speak for others) puny efforts a tad redundant.
  8. You are right, and I'm guilty as well, that some posts should have been in the other man made thread but the post to which I referred should have been in neither but in the skeptic thread.
  9. Global and regional sea level change during the 20th century http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2014JC009900/abstract?utm_content=buffer75a3e&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

  11. The ECM ops is still going for a N/S split for the weekend before generally warming by Monday.
  12. But will it turn up something rotten in the woodshed Polar? It is going for a more zonal flow but it doesn't appear drastic.
  13. Mullender I shouldn't worry about Thorium. The idea has been around for decades and never came to fruition and never will now. The result can actually be used for nuclear warheads. As for the science behind the alternate theory to the greenhouse effect. It has been proposed by a couple of physicists that I'm aware of, Connolly and Rancourt, and totally discounted by all other physicists. But that isn't the point I'm making. It shouldn't be in this thread, it's not evidence, just a theory, and should be in the skeptical thread.
  14. On the other hand. http://johnquiggin.com/2014/09/21/from-derp-to-denialism/
  15. Tonight's anomalies, well what can I say. All still singing from the same hymn sheet. HP UK/Scandinavia, trough western Atlantic.
  16. The 12z ECM ops has thrown a bit of a wobbler for Wednesday with low pressure from the east conjured up and some pretty low temps. This to be revised later.
