  1. Yes we know the downside but one can understand the surge in China when one considers their pollution problems.
  2. The ECM ops looks okay for next weekend although it's a bit of a knife edge situation. Certainly at the moment most of England should be okay but Scotland and the NE could come under the Scandinavian circulation and be somewhat cooler.
  3. Also regarding posts without charts and no back up statements there have been one two posts recently that have discussed, for example, the NH settling into it's summer state and the 'importance' of the jet stream position. None as far as I'm aware have discussed in any meteorological depth the reasoning behind these statements which means the reader has to take them on speck, so to speak. I believe Lamb went into the former in some detail and the relationship between upper tropospheric wind systems and surface weather and climate is, to say the least, complicated..
  4. As discussions without charts appear to be a no no a quick look at the latest ECM weeklies for Friday 27th. if only it verified.
  5. Brilliant morning with nary a cloud. Temp 11C Calm Pressure 1028mb falling
  6. I'm sure the lady above would have approved. Global Wind Day Celebrates Wind Energy as Major Player Worldwidehttp://desmogblog.com/2014/06/16/global-wind-day-celebrates-wind-energy-major-player-worldwide
  7. I think modern environmentalism owes a great deal to this woman. And this has been recognised by many scientists over the years. I feel this cannot be disputed.

  9. Remarkable drop in dew points today in Kansas. Dutch oven: dewpoints in Kansas currently in 60s -- how about 104°F / 19°F later today? pic.twitter.com/7oBbdHbDM7
  10. Further to my earlier post GFS/Glastonbury a good example of not taking too much notice one or two runs after a glance at the 12z. That is keeping a ridge over the UK Thursday/Friday/Saturday although the latter is a bit complex and quite wet. It's scaled down the movement of the Greenland low and has the front lying SW/NE NW of Scotland by Saturday with an area of rain in Biscay from the low pressure in France. The Atlantic looks so unsettled next week I suspect it may be a few days before a sustainable scenario can be pinned down.
  11. The ECM ens not quite as pessimistic although a slightly different scenario to the GFS.
  12. I wouldn't get too disheartened it's just one run and one model and we are talking ten days time. I only posted it because that's what it's saying. J10's blog will give you a much better professional run down on this as you probably know.
  13. A quick look through the looking glass for Glastonbury with the 00z GFS. Not good so just as well there is plenty of time for change in this fluid situation. By 06z for instance but for the time being. The 500mb anomaly has the ridge to the west of the UK weakening and moving NE. Cold air remains over Scandinavia and Europe. Wednesday 25th Transient ridge over the UK 1022mb. Low pressure SE of Greenland with associated fronts 150 miles west of Ireland. Another low pressure area over France giving very wet conditions. Thursday Similar to Wednesday but the ridge declining and the Atlantic fronts now reaching Ireland with some quite heavy rain. Situation in France unchanged, Friday Low 1007mb now just west of Ireland with associated front Ireland to the south west of England with a band of rain stretching to west midlands and Hampshire. The low over France has moved away SE. Saturday Low pressure over the whole of the UK bringing wet weather to all regions
  14. Mostly cloudy with broken Sc. Temp 13.5C Calm Pressure 1028mb falling

  19. The ECM for the weekend previously looked at. The 500mb anomaly is much the same as the GFS with the cold to east a wee bit further west and ditto the ridge. Surface analysis also not dissimilar.
  20. Interesting photo Shot I got tonight in Nebraska pic.twitter.com/tnRt5wlMow
  21. Continuing looking at next weekend but with GFS. The 500mb anomaly has a trough western Atlantic, a ridge eastern Atlantic just west of the UK with cold air Scandinavia edging into the UK and a low west of Spain. The surface analysis Saturday through Tuesday. The first couple of days HP is situated to the west of the UK 1029mb which generally dominates the UK weather giving a clear/N/NE light flow At the same time there is low pressure over Greenland, a large area east of Scandinavia and a separate shallow low west of Spain. By Monday the HP has retreated a tad with the Greenland low nipping east be north of Scotland leaving the UK in no man’s land apart from northern Scotland that is in the SE flow from the low and affected by some frontal action. By Tuesday the low is in the Baltic leaving the UK being squeezed between the two systems with fronts lying N/S and a generally wet day. For Glastonbury the good news is that the HP to the west is set pull it’s weight once again and things don’t look too bad at all. Of course this is one model and away down the line so Saxo must be at hand. The main problem being the fluidity of the pattern at the moment.
  22. Just a touch of Ci. Temp 13C NNE 6mph Pressure 1029mb rising
  23. Nobody said it was just about generating power. But you have a good point. A huge amount of stuff, and increasingly so in this technical age, has to be made with important components that require scarce minerals. This is not sustainable.
  24. But it's not just about food. Of course we can produce enough food to feed twice as many people. That's about distribution. But do have finite reserves of important minerals that are more and more important these days. I'd like to see you justify the statement that 'green' energy is less environmentally friendly than the coal fired power stations we are closing down . Or the shale oil deposits we are opening up.
